  1. Thanks for the replies guys. I am going to go with the CPU upgrade, get my hands on an 4790k and motherboard, then go for the graphics card upgrade when I can eventually afford it again. My GTX780 seems to do just fine at the moment, frames tend to drop a little in heavy clouds and when using slightly more resource heavy planes like the AIrbus X but they keep going strong otherwise. Hopefully a stronger CPU will help with this Rob
  2. Hi everyone, I need some quick advice. I've recently come into some money and am hoping to upgrade my PC a bit to help it get better performance out of P3D 2.5 My specs are as follows: i7-3770 CPU @ 3.4 GHz 8GB of RAM GeForce GTX 780 I was originally looking at an upgrade to a GTX 980 ti with 6GB of RAM but after a little bit of reading I am starting to think that maybe a CPU upgrade might give me better frame rates at max settings instead of a new graphics card. Ultimately I'm confused and can't afford to upgrade both at this moment in time. I'd be really grateful if someone who knew their stuff could offer me some friendly advice as to which one they would go for....
  3. Any chance of a screenshot of the REX settings? In particular the clouds? They look very nice indeed!
  4. For those of us who have been looking to try out this helicopter sim I suggest now is as good a time as any! Steam are selling the bundle edition, which includes the basic game and Hind DLC for £1.59. (90% off!!!) Regular version also 90% off - £1.19 but might as well get the hind for 40p! Offer ends 11th March and you need a free steam account to play. Anyone unfamiliar with steam, I'd highly recommend giving it a shot - great way of keeping games up to date and connecting/playing online with friends. http://store.steampowered.com/sub/13794 Really sorry about posting that 4 times!!! That's 'tapatalk' telling me there had been an error so it was unable to post. Turns out it was lying the whole time! Still though, absolute bargain- at least you can't miss it now
  5. Ok scrap that - i've just realised using FSX camera has the same 'bug' that i thought FSUIPC middle mouse control had - if you move the camera, say over your left shoulder, then press a shortcut key to snap to a predefined view in OPUS, when you press the look key again the camera snaps back to the last place it was, in this case back over that shoulder. So its not a problem with FSUIPC, its with the default look system... Unfortunately I find this pretty irritating but I guess that's because i'm switching between cameras systems: Opus and FSX default cameras. If I was to use the live camera, i wouldn't have this problem... Such a shame live camera manipulation cant be triggered with the middle mouse button! for now i'll have to put up with it, or remember to center my camera again before switching views!
  6. Thanks Cheryl! The hat function works perfectly - I'm more than happy to use FSX mouse look but unfortunately the middle mouse button does not activate it! I've set up the space bar to toggle it on/off but i would much prefer to use the middle mouse button. Is there a setting in the controls panel i've accidentally deleted?
  7. Hey all, Firstly can I congratulate OPUS on a outstanding piece of software. I've used the weather engine for some time now but recently I decided to give the camera a try. Having learned how to use the camera effectively I can't go back to any other camera software, it's an essential part of my sim experience. I know there are many posts about the benefits of mapping the live camera to a controller but it's not something I want to do. I like being able to hold down the middle mouse button, move the camera, let go and click on the desired switch. I know EZDOK do it very effectively, so I was wondering why OPUS haven't implemented this feature! I know you can use FSUIPC to do this but I find that method a bit buggy. So I think a macro to 'shift+o' is a good option, however I can't do it through Microsoft keyboard and mouse centre because I don't have a Microsoft mouse. Can anyone recommend me a better method? Or a decent macro program? Rob
  8. PMDG 777 SP1 Razbam Metroliner Some images of Razbam EMB 120's VC Aerosoft CRJ Enigmasim to turn around and say that they were just joking and the 737 Classic is ready for release... Oh! And someone to announce a FOKKER 70 with a highly detailed VC. Don't ask for much
  9. Personally I've thoroughly enjoyed both aircraft and think that after a couple of flights with the manuals, both aircraft are 'easy' to fly and procedures simple enough to follow. In terms of ease of operation, I would agree that the Dash 8 is the easiest of the two. However, I think the actual art of landing the Dash 8 is quite a skill to master -despite having got to the point where I can operate the aircraft by memory, I still have trouble making satisfying landings. With this in mind, I find the JS4100 much easier to land and once the systems and the more 'hands on' procedures have been mastered (Which I really don't think takes that much longer - just a couple of flights with the manual, plus there are various helpful tutorials and checklists on this site) I personally find the aircraft very satisfying to operate. One thing to also bare in mind, if you purchase FS2CREW for the JS4100 most of the work is done by the co-pilot- making it a VERY easy aircraft to fly I love the look of the JS4100 panel, but that's a personal preference, but the panel is frame rate heavy in comparison to the DASH 8, and the sound on the DASH 8 engines are hands down the best available for any aircraft in fsx. Bottom line is both aircraft have their merits and with a bit of time both will be rewarding aircraft to I have never been interested in flying turboprops, despite several attempts to fly them, since I began flying with FS98. It is solely thanks to both of these aircraft and the efforts of both development teams that I have a developed a love and appreciation for turboprops! Cannot wait to purchase Razbam's Metroliner! About to be released any second now! Gutted that it's been released now, when I have no money due to being a student teacher around Xmas.
  10. Thanks for all the replies guys, absolutely loving this bird, an absolute credit to its designers. Rob
  11. Hey guys, So I've owned this amazing aircraft for some time but hadn't had long to really learn it. Fortunately, the girlfriend was away last night so I was able to follow the provided documentation and really get to grips with the Dash 8. First things first: an incredible recreation of one of my favorite airliners. Anyway, Speeds. I'm confused. Everywhere I look, I read that the Dash 8's performance levels can give a jet a run for its money. Wikipedia tells me the cruising speed is 360 knots. The included documents give me the impression that this thing wants to move! When I look out of my cockpit window and down at my airspeed, I don't get that feeling. What are the typical climb speeds people use? If I aim for 250knts I tend to end up with very little vertical lift (FLCH). Is it a case of climbing at a slower speed and then accelerating to cruise speed at cruise level? What climb/cruise speeds do people use? I've been flying from the UK to Ireland at 18000ft for reference. Should I be chasing the overspeed bar? Or am I simply expecting too much out of her? Have I made her too heavy?! Thanks for your help Rob
  12. Hey guys, I've recently managed to solve a CTD problem I'd had for years with FSX, enabling me to play the sim properly for the first time since I bought the sim for £60 7 years ago!!! I won't bore you but the fix involved running the sim in windowed mode which also made the sim run as smooth as butter, which was a pleasant surprise for me and my i7. So anyways, With this new stability I am now able to explore ENB to its full potential, but now I am experiencing lower FPS again :( Specifically it's the bloom function that's causing FPS problems. My graphics card is a GTX 550ti with 1GB of memory. Firstly am I right in thinking it's the graphics card that's more likely to be the culprit in this case? Secondly, can anyone recommend me a graphics card that works a treat for them under similar circumstances? I think it's time for an upgrade!
  13. Really appreciate the replies, should keep me busy for the foreseeable future! Thanks guys - helpful as always.
  14. Thanks guys. Will give them a go!
  15. Pilots, simmers, enthusiasts, all of the above, I love nothing more than taking the small / medium airliner out for a ride, say anything from a 30 minute to a hour long flight... Have you guys know of any routes of that length you can recommend? Always a bonus to see some beautiful scenery, try an interesting approach / departure or experience something new in the (simulated) world. I've exhausted most of the short UK hops, would be great to see some other parts of the globe! Thanks Rob
  16. Thanks
  17. My fellow pilots, I've never even considered using DX10 preview, but after reading several topics on here I'm thinking it might be a good move. Pretty sure I run a i7 3.4ghz with a GTX 550... although i'm going off memory as I am at work! Questions are: given my specs, is it a good move? - are there any important things I should do to get the best out of DX10? Fixes, patches etc... Apologies if this has been covered in another thread... Rob
  18. Yeah that's pretty much what I was expecting... Thanks for the reply though. Just looking for that one opinion that makes me want to part with the cash, but i'm yet to find it
  19. Has anyone tried Experience X? http://secure.simmarket.com/beetle-print-experience-x.phtml I'm in two minds, mainly because i'm not sure if it will work alongside ORBX England, but the following videomakes it look stunning.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4ahn2i8cJQ
