Shorter IFR flights.

Featured Replies

Pilots, simmers, enthusiasts, all of the above,

I love nothing more than taking the small / medium airliner out for a ride, say anything from a 30 minute to a hour long flight...

Have you guys know of any routes of that length you can recommend? Always a bonus to see some beautiful scenery, try an interesting approach / departure or experience something new in the (simulated) world.

I've exhausted most of the short UK hops, would be great to see some other parts of the globe!

Thanks

Rob

If my memory serves me right, there was a package of short European flights for the PMDG 737-800/900 in FS2004 and that file was available here in the Library. Do a search and you may find it. I think it was called PMDG737NG Plans, zip

Check Flightaware.com for some very nice, short hops within the Hawaiian Islands. Pretty scenery, both freeware and payware, is readily available, and PHNL, PHLI, PHOG, and PHTO have interesting approaches.

In Australia, try YBBN-YSSY or the reverse. RWY 34L or 16R is recommended for Sydney as I like a lot of runway due to the fact I'm landing with full pax and payload. 16L or 34R if you want to stand it on its nose. Another one I find challenging is LOWI-LSGS but it's not for the fainthearted. Reverse it and it's still not for the fainthearted. Back to Australia. Many of the inter-capital city hops are around 1.5 hours but not YSSY-YPPH because that is 4.5 hours, pretty much over desert.

Thanks guys. Will give them a go!

For the U.S., check out Southwest Airlines' routes. They have a lot of +/- 1 hour flights all originating from various points across the country. They don't have the typical "hub and spoke" route system that 99% of the airlines in the world have so you can do short hops all across the country with them and never visit the same airport twice in a single day if you don't want to. Easyjet(from the pic in your signature) is the European version. Or vice verse, depending how you want to look it. :)

A cool recent one I can remember:

A Southwest route - KMCI to KMDW - The approach to 22L/R brings you right by the Chicago skyline. Or if you want to shorten it even more, depart KSTL instead.

Check out some of Alaska Airlines's routes in airports like PAKT, PASI, PAJN and others nearby.

I enjoy the following European route network, which offers many possibilities and features (payware publishers in parentheses):

Dusseldorf (Aerosoft)

Geneva (FSDT)

Innsbruck (Aerosoft)

London Gatwick (UK2000)

Munich (Aerosoft)

Nice (Aerosoft)

Vienna (FlyTampa)

Zurich (FSDT)

Add -

Barcelona(Aerosoft)

Copenhagen(SimMarket I believe)

Oslo(Aerosoft)

Stavenger(Aerosoft)

Helsinki(Aerosoft)

All the UK2000 airports

Dublin(Fly-Wonderful-Islands)

Prague(freeware from http://lkpr.aspone.cz/IndexE.html)

Europe has to be the best covered continent in FSX?? There is a free or payware airport available for almost every commercial airport.

From anywhere on the east coast to SunskyJet's KPHL in Philadelphia. Pick it! JFK, Washington Dulles or Regan, Boston, Pittsburgh, Cleveland. All of them have good city or airport sceneries as well. But flying into SunSkyJet's KPHL is remarkable. They didn't stop at the airport perimeter, so there are numerous Philadelphia landmarks, and most are key visual cues for approaches into the airport.

I fly KMIA-KJAX or KJAX-KMIA when ATC is online.

I find that the guys in JAX and MIA are great and always a joy to see online controlling.

Another one I like is LAX to SFO or SFO to LAX.

You also can't forget about LAS to LAX and LAX to LAS. The approaches I to these two are especially fun.

They all have beautiful mountain scenery and fun approaches. KASE is a very fun airport and very difficult to fly into in a jet. Watch your speed!
