  1. Actually, from what I gathered from the livestream, I believe wear and tear as well as cockpit state gets left by the last user even when flown by a non-VA member. Additionally, I gathered the product has an individual mode where it’s just you. So you could fly back and forth between the two airports that you like most. Btw, what’s with this why subscription thing. PMDG did not mention that at all, unless it was mentioned during the moments where the connection on the livestreams were cutting out. I see where everything else you’ve said has come from, and it’s all reasonable, but what you’re saying about a subscription has no evidence behind it. Unless confirmed by PMDG, I would hold off in saying that for now. People will get confused, take it for reality, threads will start...let’s not go down that channel until the info has arrived.
  2. Fair enough. I remember reading that his pigeoworks sig actually was a picture of a wing, but that revealed too much about the product that he overlayed with black. So based off of that I think pigeonworks is indeed an aircraft.
  3. Well they have been developing this for a decade and we’ve seen PMDG release several aircraft in that time frame...so I wouldn’t say it’s causing the development of other products to slow down.
  4. But then what’s the point of GFO if you’re going to warp to airports you wish to fly from? Kinda defeats the purpose.
  5. I can understand if the GFO isn’t for everyone, but PMDG aircraft also aren’t for everyone. The flight sim community has a whole variety of people in it and with that comes people who flight sim at different (for lack of a better word) intensities, which is absolutely fine. For me, GFO was worth the past month’s hype and then some. So I wouldn’t be quick to say that the announcement wasn’t worth the hype or was disappointing, it just isn’t for everyone. Also, keep in mind PMDG’s vision and target audience. And for people comparing it to FS Economy, I watched the live stream and it definitely is much much more. I’ll leave RSR to elaborate on that in his official forum announcement. Based off how I interpreted the live stream, GFO has to be launched and you have to log in before the aircraft is connected to it. So if you want to fly YSSY to RPLL and no aircraft is currently at either of those airports, don’t launch GFO. Just launch the sim, load in a 744 and off you go. Does that make sense or was that a poor explanation on my part? Edit: Btw, perhaps we wait for more information about all of GFO’s features, from PMDG, before we are quick to judge it? It’s PMDG we’re taking here...anything they do is very in depth and I would imagine that holds true to their modeling of ACARS and CPDLC.
  6. Nope, not at all. FS Economy only works for one person. What PMDG is doing allows the ability for one person to do a flight, and then have another person do the next leg, as well as many many more features.
  7. Maybe the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy? I don’t think anybody would expect military aircraft from PMDG and it’s certainly huge. Although I just don’t see PMDG taking 10 years on it.
  8. Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks John!
  9. I recall reading a thread a while ago about putting our experience with PMDG aircraft to the test in a Level D simulator. The OP mentioned a Boeing 777 Level D full motion sim down in Miami. I happen to be headed down to Miami this summer, and I figured it would be an opportunity not to miss. However, after hours (literally) of google searches, I can not find anything of the such. I only managed to come across the Boeing Training & Flight Services Miami facility, which seemed to only be for real pilot training, not an aviation enthusiast looking to spend a couple hours in a Level D sim. Can anyone shed some light on where the OP went? Side note: During my research I did come across a company called Flyanairliner, but the website no longer exists and their Facebook & Twitter pages haven’t had a post since 2015.
  10. I’m currently still on FSX. I plan on switching to P3D (and going through the process of buying everything again) once I go to college and upgrade my laptop. But if the announcement from PMDG is their own sim...looks like I’m going to wait to upgrade from FSX until the sim is released...if it’s a sim.
  11. For those of us who cannot make it, will the announcement you guys plan on making also make an official appearance on this forum afterwards?
  12. Must be a different HighFlier, I never went to an AVSIM meeting in Wichita. Although if PMDG did release a shared cockpit I’d still be happy to take you up on that offer to fly together.
  13. Personally I loved to see a shared cockpit feature implemented, it would make the simulator experience more realistic. The FCOM can be followed to a tee, briefings can actually be briefings and not just taking to yourself, discusses on weather and what to do can happen, etc. Training can also be a thing. A novice pilot who just picked up a PMDG aircraft can take on the role of first officer alongside an experienced pilot. I can see a lot of Virtual Airlines using this. Although there is one thing that would upset me about shared cockpit: I don’t have any friends who are aviation enthusiasts...although joining a VA could solve this problem.
  14. I looked through the forums as thoroughly as I could, and every thread I found that talked about reactive windshear dated back to before SP1d. I know the predictive windshear warning is modeled, I've heard it go off several times. However, I have yet to hear the reactive windshear warning go off. This makes me wonder if it is implemented. Can anyone confirm its implementation or not?
  15. If it were fake I'm sure someone from PMDG would have quickly said in this thread that they were not participating.
  16. Okay. After some more poking around, I think I'm going to settle for a NT-15 from Origin PC. Thank you for the input gents.
  17. I've taken a look at some of the newer gaming laptops but most of them I see have the system memory running at 2400MHz. Ideally, I'm looking for a laptop with the following specs: Processor - Quad Core 3.5GHz per core System Memory - 16GB DDR4 / 2666MHz Graphics Processor - 8GB VRAM with Full DirectX 11 Support Primary Hard Drive - 512GB M.2 SSD Secondary Hard Drive - 2TB HHD Is this too unrealistic for a laptop?
  18. Wouldn’t a brand new laptop come with a clean version of windows already on it?
  19. My budget is $4000-5000. I can get something nice. I currently have a laptop that just barely can run FSX and PMDG (and nothing else) at a descent frame rate. I’d like to have a laptop that can run a stable sim for once.
  20. I’m going off to college next year and having a desktop in a dorm room is not looking feasible. I’d hate to give up flight simming (I’ll be a lot busier but I bet I can squeeze a couple of good flights in a month) and I was wondering if there was a laptop out there that can run P3Dv4 with PMDG, ASP4, and Rex4 Textures at a decent frame rate (like 30 FPS minimum, on the ground). I don’t plan on getting scenery...I’m assuming that would push any laptop past what it can handle. Any suggestions?
  21. I’m already doing that actually, I just use the callouts as indicators for when to do what. Upon hearing the 50 feet callout, I switch my visual focus from the aiming point to the far end of the runway. Upon hearing the 20 feet callout, I initiate my flare and I use the far end of the runway as guidance for how much to pitch up. At least that was the impression I got watching others. I very well could be mistaken.
  22. Wow that was quick response. I think I can rule the last case out because I haven't changed my sim setup and I've had no driver updates in the past week, and I've done 5 or 6 flights in that time without any issues. As for the second case, I just checked the settings I have for that livery. I have the 50, 30, 20, and 10 callouts all on. However, I just did a quick test by flying a circuit (using the same livery), and I'm not getting any callouts. Should I send in a ticket? EDIT: NVM. I took a closer look. Despite having those specific altitude callouts on, the "Altitude Callouts" setting was off.
  23. So I was flying on VATSIM today, and I was on approach (about 10 nm out) to a runway. I was then told to sidestep to a parallel runway, which I accepted with no issues. However, on landing, I smacked into the ground. This was much to my surprise. I didn't hear any callouts and I normally rely on the 20 callout as my signal to flare. The only reason I can think of was that I did not update the FMC to reflect the change in runway. I was cleared for a visual so I didn't see a need to update the FMC. Do the callouts require the FMC to be programmed with the correct landing runway?
  24. I looked this place up, apparently it's renamed to Boeing Training & Flight Services now. It doesn't seem to me that it's meant for the general public though. Can any person call in and say they want to book a couple hours on one of the sims?
