  1. You forget where the default install location is. Nothing modern about that. Apple tried this. Didnt work out for them either.
  2. It has nothing to do with your age, and stop reinforcing stereotypes, please.
  3. No - its not nonsense. It used to be true. My first build was an AMD 386 in the 90s. Back then their chips were more buggy than Intel's. What the OP is hearing from his friend is an old reputation. Back then to buy an AMD CPU meant you were a nerdy linux type. Bleeding edge sort of thing. The AMD 386 was a clone pin for pin of the Intel 386. They dont do that anymore. They do their own designs. The 386 was their 2nd CPU after their 286, which was also buggy. I know because my buddy built a system with that chip. Could be we just didnt know what we were doing, which is also true.
  4. He says he likes his case. I like my case too. I bought it in the 90s, and it still works.
  5. Typically for games, and most software, higher clock is better. Because its difficult to program software to use multiple cores people seldom do it. But full stop for this sim. It clearly utilizes multiple cores, so the jury is still out until we see benchmarks. I chose the 10700k because I couldn't afford the 10900, and I dont like AMD CPUs. My first PC build was a AMD 386 in the 90s, and it was never stable. Never really liked them since, although my last system had an AMD GPU which was rock solid. Even there I prefer NVidia. The real question is a a 9th generation, or a 10th gen Intel. I went with the 10th gen - which is a bit of a risk because it just came out this spring. That means the Z490 MBs are newer tech, too.
  6. It will fit just fine as I have my copy residing on my only SSD, where I had 160Gb of free space. The real question is do you want to consume that entire SSD, your only SSD? The sim will run fine on an HDD, with no added stuttering. You might get slightly longer load times. I run my cache on a USB drive with no issues whatsoever.
  7. Talk about CPU limited, wink. You are in the same boat as I. I've got an I5-6500, which I think is the same generation as your I7. I even have your MB I think - an Asus B150, with 16 meg of Gskill RAM. On top of that, I have a RTX 2080S in the system, and I'm CPU choked too! I ordered my new hardware a few days ago, and it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow. I got a I7-10700K, and the Gigabyte Aorus Pro MB. I like Gigabyte MBs, despite my current Asus MB being rock solid. Got a WD Blue 1Tb M2 SSD to add to my existing 500Gb SSD. I'm using my old case I purchased in the 90s (!), which I still use after numerous upgrades.
