  1. Announcing FS Map Tool 1.3.0, an update to the mobile map utility for MS FS2020, available on Apple App Store and on Google Play. It's a simple yet effective external map utility that shows your current plane location on an interactive map, alongside other parameters such as speed, altitude and heading. You can set (virtual) waypoints and it also supports teleportation, so you can go anywhere in the world in just an instant, without restarting the game.

Head over to www.fsmaptool.com for more info.

I've made this in my spare time as a fun side project. Let me know if you have any issues or suggestions and ideas on how to improve the app. I'm open for feedback and happy to include new features wherever possible.

    Happy flying!

I hadn't forgotten about replying - I've only just got the sim to start after MS Store problems. Getting a few CTDs and not tracked down the reason yet. I had in the meantime managed to ping devices. At the moment though, although I can now get the app to work, I'm having to disable the firewall which is obviously a bad idea, so there's an issue with it being allowed through which I'm investigating. Progress though!

As for the app itself, I like it And it's so sensitive in the sense that it even registers the movement and direction during pushback! I'd say there is about a 3 second lag, maybe a fraction less. Is that normal or might that just be a wireless lag? With nothing running, I get just short of my full 38Mbs bandwidth, but with it running that drops to just over 14 so there's obviously less available for the Wi-Fi signal and the router is in a different room on a different floor, so it could be just that.

You should be able to set the app as a "exception" rule in your firewall settings, so you don't have to turn it off completely. I'm no Windows guy myself at all so I don't know the specifics but you should be able to look it up. Others have done it before 🙂

  3. Hi @ludekbrno and thanks for the suggesion. That sounds totally doable and I've thought about it. It would be easy to implement. User could add drop pins on the map e.g. by long-tapping a point on the map. But I'm currently more interested in reading the flight plan data and inserting the waypoints into the map although that seems more complicated. But I have taken note of your idea!

@alberto2000 Things aren't working for me unfortunately. I've installed on 3 devices:

    Moto G3 Plus, Android 6.01

    Moto G4 Plus, Android 8.1.0

    Google Nexus 7 (2012), Android 5.1.1

Server tool installed on PC. Download was initially blocked by Malwarebytes, but I gave it permission to continue. It appeared in the System Tray but stayed red. I saved the link in the Taskbar and started it from there and got a second System Tray icon in green. Both before and after trying that method, I copied the server info onto each device, trying just one at a time in case of conflict. But each device shows "Waiting for server info..." at the top of the map, with no sign of my plane whether I press the location icon or swipe to my location on the map.

I've even tried with both Malwarebytes and my firewall disabled, though I wouldn't risk that long-term.

    Any suggestions?

Hi @109Sqn that sounds again like some sort of networking / router/ firewall settings issue. I'm afraid I can't help everyone on that since it's always highly specific to your PC network and setup. Are you sure both PC and mobile device are on the same local network? Can they reach each other (try pinging the mobile device from the PC)? Make sure only one instance of the server application is running on the PC and only one client at a time is open and making requests. It should work out of the box really. Let me know how it goes. Best

Thank you for this app, it's working great on my dedicated moving map tablet, LenovoTab E 10 - Android 8.1. So far the best moving map I ever used. All I miss is a toggle switch for the screen to turn off automaticly. But this is just me.

    Thanks again and take care

    Mick

You want the screen to be able to go to sleep? Can't you just exit the app, so the screen goes black after a few seconds?

Thank you. Working on Note 10+ with Android 10. Stuck on splash screen is fixed.

    👍

Guys, please consider dropping a review or rating on the App Store or Google Play store - that would make my day  🙂

Just the splash screen for me. No further. On a Samsung Galaxy Tab S4  😞

So I thought I would try it on my Samsung Mobile Phone S8+

Went into Google Play and it says ERROR YOU ALREADY OWN THIS APP.

So unable to re-dowload it onto my mobile phone 😞

The Android "Stuck-At-Splash-Screen" issue will be resolved with the upcoming update 1.0.9 which should hit Google Play one of these days, probably Monday.

The other issue is Google Play related. Have you tried uninstalling and then restarting your device before reinstalling?

Nice to hear that @alberto2000, could you tell us when the android version will be available?

Speaking from the devil ... Google has just now accepted the App and it's now available on the Google Play Store:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riccardolardi.fsmaptool

Let me know how it goes. I've only been able to test it on a Android Simulator, not a real Android device, since I don't have access to any. But it should be fine.

Google has announced they are strongly lagging behind with their App review process so it could take up to 1-2 weeks after submission. See here https://www.androidpolice.com/2020/03/16/google-play-store-app-reviews-will-take-7-days-or-longer/#:~:text=Google is warning developers that,to trigger a manual review.

I've submitted the App a week ago so it should be available very soon. Sorry I cannot give a more precise answer...
