March 18, 200422 yr Hi folksI use the same configuration: FS9 with AS2004, SB, SB Host, RW or AVC+AVC Tuner and SB Relay to fly on VATSIM and it works. It takes several time to install the whole bunch but it works fine. All of us are waiting for one tool to install including voice, net client and so on
March 18, 200422 yr AS2004 is ActiveSky 2004, a weather addon for FS9.It provides you with better weather depiction and winds aloft than the built in FS9 weather and is als compatible with VATSIM weather. You can get more information at www.hifisim.com or in the ActiveSky forum here on AVSIM.Best RegardsMax (Bern, LSZB)http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/800driver.jpg
March 18, 200422 yr Well well well, another online orginization. I just perused there site and it looks like a bunch of fabricated crap. For one, look at the statistics. Going on 337,000 hours of online ATC? They celebrated there 1 year anniversary on Feb 1. There is only 8,760 hours in a year! VATSIM has been around for years and they obviously have alot more controllers than this group and VATSIM is only at 615,000 hrs of ATC. There is no way they can have that many hours in 1 year, especially there first year. Looking at the various divison membership numbers, (the US only has 42), I would have to say that there statistics leave alot to be speculated on.Richard, don't hold your breath waiting for the traffic levels to "pick up". It's not gonna happen...ever. VATSIM and IVAO (mainly VATSIM), have the lions share of the online traffic and with good reason. Both are long established and have good reputations. What the tiny online community does NOT need is yet another orginization coming along to dilute the already thin waters of online flyers. There have been I think at least 3 or 4 in the past couple years that have come along and never got anywhere never to be heard from again. This is the same place this so called FPI will likey go as well. SB3 will most certainly be released this year. Once that happens, I suspect VATSIM's numbers will only increase. Sorry to burst your bubble. Eric
March 18, 200422 yr Author Hello Eric,I hear what you say and maybe you're right. Personally I couldn't care less if I'm on VATSIM, IVAO, FPI or any other network. What I'm looking for when flying online is a stable and well functioning environment where I can have fun and as much realism as possible. Considering what you say about VATSIM, how long they have been around etc I find it strange that a newcomer like FPI manage to develop client software and a network that works much better than a legend like VATSIM. But...let's wait for SB3 and hope it will be as good as FPI's software. Have seen a preview video of SB3 and what I saw there wasn't even near what FPI has already developed.Again, what I'm looking for as a single user is the best possible and fun environment...which ever network/technology that will be.Cheers,
March 18, 200422 yr When the service gets to 600 Users, like VATSIM was last Sunday, and it's that smooth, let me know.
March 18, 200422 yr sorry to but in "but"....I do believe that this was brought up in the sb3 forums and FPI basically has a max of 16 players at once?? hence the difference in quality to vatsim which has a large number more at any 1 time!Of course I was reading this a while back and so I am not 100%, so dont kick me if I am wrong!Mark ;)http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpgAKA BAW101, First Officer
March 18, 200422 yr I am an Instrument Rated pilot and I find the VATSIM ATC a pretty fair representation of the real world. It isn't perfect but it is pretty good. I have also found most of the VATSIM controllers to be polite, professional and helpful. There is always the exception, but I have also encountered a few real world controllers that may not have been having the best of days. ;-)Concerning rejected flight plans, I believe some if not most of the VATSIM ARTCC George Morris
March 18, 200422 yr Author Hi Mark,Don't know about that, have only connected to FPI once so far and really doesn't know anything more than what I noticed and that was that everything was amazingly smooth and simple to setup and get up and running. But...when looking at the FPI activity right now using ServInfo there's 47 users connected. Maybe the limitation is that you will only be able to have 16 other guys around you at once.Cheers,
March 19, 200422 yr Richard.A short time ago when I first became aware of PFI and gave them a quick look there was some talk about getting some new servers online. Wether that had anything to do with the 16 player deal I do not know. I do know the new servers are on-line. I think I read in FPI's docs (unless it was some one elses) to choose the 16 player option in the MS multiplayer session. If so that does not mean your limited to 16 players, it may be some sort of limit to the traffic you can see in a given distance? Like I said I'm new at the flying online stuff. I dont think MS would limit FPI to 16 players and the rest to unlimited # of players, hello.Regards
March 19, 200422 yr Author Hi,That was just what I ment, I think the limitation if there is one is how many other players you can see around you at a given time. And honestly, if that limitation would be 16 players personally I would prefer that and a smooth movement before having x players around me and a very erratic movement. And...how often do you have more than 16 players around you anyway regardless what network you're on...Cheers,
March 19, 200422 yr Isn't that 16 player limitation an FS limitation? I know that was a limitation with FS2002 and I assume the same limitation exists with FS9.
