March 19, 200422 yr Author I think you're right about that and if that's the case, then AVSIM or any other network would suffer from that limitation as well.
March 20, 200422 yr That 16 Player Limit is set by M$ not by FPI.So no matter if you're using ATOC or SB you'll only see 14 other players in FS2004 (#15 is ATOC/SB, #16 are youself).stclvax
March 20, 200422 yr Author Thanks Stefan for a very informative answer to everybody's different questions! All the best,
March 20, 200422 yr Hi all in the forum.I have read all these posts and it seems to me that some do not understand the simple reasoning behind having a choice. After all there have been some fairly outspoken posts comparing PMDG with PSS and Dreamfleet. When it comes to the bottom line...they are all excellent in their own way and the user has the choice of the type of aircraft to fly at the time. The same goes for this choice. I am a member of Vatsim and FPI. and again both are excellent depending on what type of online experience i want on the day. I have never had a bad experience with Vatsim in the 15 or so months i have been with them. Its no secret that the software is a bit of a pain sometimes with all the things that need to be running together to make it work, but the controllers that i have come across are as professional as it gets, whether they are "rookies" or seasoned controllers. I bet i have frustrated them more times with my bad flying than they have frustrated me. I used FPI for the first time yesterday and had a few techie problems and the guy on the other end of the mic stayed with me till they were all solved...a sort of 1 to 1 help. then had 2 great flights.....and yes a few planes came up on the tcas....and controller for controller there were as many online at the time i was online on both systems (in my flying part of the world). So for my two pennyworth....lets all enjoy the different experiences being offered, after all its free and manned by volunteers. Wow i feel better having said that.cheers allJohn Calleja (jc_150) John Calleja
March 20, 200422 yr Author Well said John and as I aready stated earlier in this thread I don't care what network I'm on as long as it is stable and let me focus on having fun rather than messing with all different kinds of strange technical problems. All the best,
March 21, 200422 yr I'm going to have to agree with Richards observations on this. As a seasoned Vatsim user with 500+ hours I was very skeptical. But... after two days flying I've got to say it certainly lives up to its claims. The software is simply streaks ahead of Squawkbox and from what I've heard via third parties, Squawkbox 3 will still not be able to match it.Of course as someone has rightly pointed out, the acid test will be when there are x amount of hundreds of users on the system. - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space
March 22, 200422 yr I read the ATOC Pilot Client manual in the weekend and actually tried it out. I am impressed, very much so. To start with, you need to install only 1 software and you have all functions you need, from network connection, voice, weather, airport layout to TCAS. And they are all fully integrated as one.The interface is not flashy but very functional. As someone pointed out earlier, it worked the first time! This is definitely the highest quality freeware I have come across for a long time.ATOC .... WOW.... I salute your dedication and quality.Michael TanYSCB AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Nvideo 970 GTX FSX + MegaScenery
March 22, 200422 yr Author Hi Michael,Good to hear that I'm not the only one here thinking the FRI network/software seems like a very good alternative to the other networks :-)Suggested this once before, but wouldn't it be fun to give the FPI network a real chance in the form of a PMDG groupflight? Personally I think the groupfligts are great fun and if the FPI network/software would also give us a chance to really "see" each other during the groupflight in a way that VATSIM cannot it would be even more fun!All the best,
March 22, 200422 yr I would certainly put my name down for a FPI PMDG groupflight event. - Dean P3Dv4 & XP11 space
March 23, 200422 yr Author That's great to hear! I'm sure everyone would be very positively surprised with FPI's smooth performance and great software and if someone with more experience of arranging these kind of events would be interested I'm sure there wouldn't be any problem for us to get great and proffessional ATC coverage during our flight.So...who else is up for this...?All the best,
March 23, 200422 yr Author Found this pic showing some actual formation flying on FPI, notice the working lights on the a/c for example. Just imagine having a PMDG groupflight where we all would be able to see eachother like this during the flight :-)!http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/68306.jpg
