November 14, 200817 yr I read that this problem with autobrakes affected the B744X also. This problem was solved with a service update. Shoul expect something similar for the MD11? How long it will take? Is it the same problem or a similar one? With the B744X only the Saitek pedals (i think) were involved in the problem...but with MD11?I have the Saitek pedals and with MD11 I have this problem...Thanks a lot guysBest RegardsLorenzo Chiovaro
November 15, 200817 yr Please stop saying that this is a pedals related problem. It is not. All the pedals are doing is clouding the issue. Turn your pedals off and you will find you will still have the ABS problem. On landing the ABS does not activate. I have allso noticed that after leaving the runway my spoilers are still fully deployed not retracted automaticaly as they are supposed to do and allso the ABS switch is still In its posistion where it was set prior to landing and no ABS dissconnect indication on the glareshield.Norman
November 15, 200817 yr Ok, you are right. Not a pedals related problem. This morning, in fact, I tried again with a landing arming the ABS.I had exacly the behaviour that you mentioned in your post about ABS. The ABS knob was (after landing) in the same position of the arming action made when I started the descend.Anyway my spoilers go down propely but they do so only if you advance thrust levers of a bit after have engaged reverse thrust. If your speedbrake do not go down even if you observed this simple procedure probably this is another problem and it should be fixed with ABS problem.I hope someone of the PMDG team read obout this, too.Best RegardsThanksLorenzo Chiovaro
November 15, 200817 yr Commercial Member Norman,We are investing this and so far, most of the times this problem was reported by rudder pedal users. All I know so far is that when I asked a couple of users to disconnect their pedals (delete the FSX axis assignments and unplug the pedals) they reported back that the problem went away. Also, ABS is working for me, our beta testers and the vast majority of users. If there was indeed a problem that affected all users then we would have many, many reports from users with or without rudder pedals. This doesn't mean we rule out something, we will investigate all your reports. But we must understand the nature of the problem:a. definitely confirm that it affects some users without rudder pedals (no axis assignment, unplugged hardware).b. determine what is the factor that makes ABS work for most users but not for some others. As for the other observations you made:- Spoilers retract automatically when you apply some thrust above a predefined level (as long as they were automatically deployed - not manually).- The ABS switch is not spring loaded and will not automatically move to the OFF position. You have to turn it yourself.- The ABS DISARM indication will illuminate during auto-braking when you apply manual brakes ("." key, or from pedals), if of course ABS is working as expected and was activated. November 15, 200817 yr One thing I noticed was that autobrakes, even in max, are not Near as effective as manual brake application. Coming from the 747, it really felt as if something was wrong. In a 747, max will bang your head on the glareshield, for real . . . and in the sim. The "." FS brake key stroke that my joystick trigger button provides is either a 100% (system available) brake application, or none at all. On or off. Initially, I didn't think the MD-11's ABS was working either. The darn airplane just wouldn't stop. I always had to save-the-day, manually.'Min' is a pretty light touch. Even 'Max' doesn't really stomp on 'em. Go into the PMDG menu's 'Airline Options - Equipment" and check "Auto brakes High Deceleration Rate." See if that doesn't cha get a more positive AB feel on rollout.
November 15, 200817 yr Thank you for your reply Michael.I am using XP Pro with FSX installed could this be a problem related to XP based machines I have FSX SP1 and SP2 installed i allso use a CH USB flight sim yoke LE no Pedals. Regards my spoilers were set to deploy on landing which they did reversers worked as they should small amount of thrust applied on leaving runway spoilers still deployed had to manually retract them. The ABS switch in future i will return to off manually. After setting the ABS to medium on final approach i have the visual indication that the auto brake is armed but on landing nothing. The only way to stop is to use manual braking.Thank you for looking at this problem. The MD11 is a brillant piece of work. The best flight sim addon congratulations to all the PMDG team.Ps i have in my PMDG settings Auto brakes High Deceleration RateNorman
November 15, 200817 yr I have this problem and I am using FSX under Win Vista 32bit. I have auto brakes high decel rate selected also...Best RegardsLorenzo Chiovaro
November 16, 200817 yr Not sure if this helps or hurts...But, I acctually had the Autobrakes work for the first time this morning on my arrival into Abu Dhabi. The only thing I did different was instead of flying the approach and landing totally manual, I left the ATS engaged to take care of the throttles. Sure enough, on landing the autobrakes were working. (I had been flying all my landings manually for training since the delivery flight.)So that begs the question, do the autobrakes require the use of AP or ATS on the approach? My understanding is that they should not. I also checked my throttle calibration again to make sure it was coming all the way back to idle, which it was. Just in case the ATS was getting the throttles all the way back where my hardware was not.I will try again on the next leg, to see if it repeats. Just have to make up my mind as to where the next leg heads.. hehe :-cool-Jason Peters E-3B/C AWACS Flight Engineer USAF (Former B-52H Crew Chief)http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_trijet.jpg -Jason Peters, MSgt, USAF Ret.Charter Pilot (SIC). November 16, 200817 yr I have the Saitek peddles and my MD-11 works fine under autobraking. But, I had the same problem you are describing with the 747. To fix it, I let FSUIPC handle the axis and put a check in the 'RAW' section. Checking the 'RAW' section fixed it for me. Give it a tryJeff P.
November 16, 200817 yr I know on my system the autobrakes work in the min/med/max for landing. I have played around with those quite extensively to see the difference between them. I do not know if my T/O setting works as I haven't practiced a rejected take off yet. On landing the autobrakes definately work, spoilers deploy, and when I manually apply the brakes I get the ABS Disengage light on the Captains glare shield. I have a Saitek X52 setup. I have the Saitek rudder pedals, I will have to pull them out of the closet and see if that has any type of effect on the ABS. I always perform manual landings cause I do not know how to use the auto land function so I don't think it is AP or ATS related. I am unsure if it may have to do with having to put the engines into reverse thrust though. Cause the second I get weight on wheels and the F/O gives me spoilers deployed I let the nose touch and then I go full reverse thrust to 80kts and usually by 60 I start using the brakes manaully. The auto brakes may have to do with bringing the throttles completely back to idle? I would think there would be some kind of safeguard to where you need to have weight on wheels, and the throttles at least in idle or reverse before ABS kicked on in order to not over heat the brakes and cause a tire blow out? Is something interesting to play around with a do a few full stop landings. Steve Jordan Aviation Structural Mechanic SH-60B/HH-60H/MH-60R/MH-60S USN FSX Hours: 3000 and counting
November 16, 200817 yr I don't know what to think now. I only know that my ABS is not working. With or without ATS, with or without pedals and so on...CheersLorenzo Chiovaro
November 17, 200817 yr Well just flew from Abu Dhabi to London (4x Accel.) Had a great flight, made great time 6+45 enroute. I did a full autoland for the arrival. No autobrakes on touchdown... :-(Must have been a fluke. Really have no idea here. The 744 works great as do many other addons. Had the ramp fellas here at Heathrow take a look, and they are scratching their heads. :+ Anyhow, the MEL says autobrakes aren't required to keep her in revenue service. So, I plan on continuing on to Boston, and then on to Dallas for a maintenance check at the AA Heavy Maint. facility.Off to crew rest for me! :-cool-Jason Peters E-3B/C AWACS Flight Engineer USAF (Former B-52H Crew Chief)http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_trijet.jpg -Jason Peters, MSgt, USAF Ret.Charter Pilot (SIC). November 17, 200817 yr HelloPlease see this post regarding the 747-400X:http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...41649&mode=fullIt seems some of us are still waiting for an update to be released. Maybe its the same problem with the MD11. Any news on this update? Ross Marsh Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 3.2GHz 4GB RAM NVIDIA GeForce GTX580 Windows Vista Home Premium 64x
November 18, 200817 yr I had this problem withe the 747. What I did was program the axis with FSUIPC with the axis page and used the direct to calibration radio button. Once you do this delete the FSX assignment and it should work. Also with the MD-11 make sure you arm the autobrakes BEFORE you lower the gear or sometimes it will not work. Hope I helped!!!James Johnson James Lunsford
November 18, 200817 yr This could be a throttle calibration issue. If your throttle doesn't command FULLY to the idle stop, ABS won't work. This might also explain why somebody achieved A/Braking when ATS was engaged.Martin Neep
