B767 taxi N1 power

Featured Replies

Ian,when I open the airfile with AIRED 1.52, I get a sort of tree with grey rectangles on the left, filled with ???. To their right I have a number and 'Unknown'.If I click on number 1506, I get a window with hex numbers. Where are the rows and columns you are referring to?I see that Aired is for FS2000, but I use FS2002, is it compatible? Thanks,James

Ian, please, disregards my previous message, I hadn't unzipped all the Aired files. Now it works. Thanks and sorry,James

MaxThrust,So after the second tweak the plane should fly unaffected by this modification, AND taxi with idle thrust ?If so, then this is just brilliant!Others, please let me know how it worked...Tero

Hi Bozhan,as idle thrust is 30-35% N1 in the air, how can you change the values for 35 and 40% N1 and say it has no effect? I tried it and found that on an approach with gear still up, flaps 5 and idle thrust IAS increased to more than 190 kts, while in the same situation with original values it was below 185 kts. However, while I tried this I got another idea: If I could add another row to this table for a very low mach number I could change thrust for taxi speed only without affecting performance at the higher speeds you have in the air. After some time I managed to get this third row by hex editing the section with AirEd. Seems to work very good. I will describe how to make this modification in another post on the weekend, when I have some time, so everybody can try it.Regards, Matthias :-)

so, this really works? What's everybody's conclusions so far?

If you guys are asking for personal opines, then I will give mine. I really think that this ((MIGHT)) effect preformance in flight, just how much it will effect is the million dollar question here. Really I would like the main man ((WADE)) to stepup on in this one, and explain for us the hazzards (if any) this messing with the airfile will cause. This is no way to belittle anyone's trying, just that I would rather have someone who knows what the heck they are messing with to explain these things clearly. Ok I am done. well, I will withhold from changing anything for now.

Bozhan,I have spent over 2 hours trying to play with AirEd to change these values and make them stick. I do have the latest version of AirEd.What is the sequence to make these changes? I open line 1506, then click on the column number and then press enter. I change the value of the numbers to what you indicated, then press enter if reopen line 1506 the number value return to the original value.I have tried this same seqeunce with a right click of the mouse to delete then paste and nothing is taking hold. What am I doing wrong with the save sequence.ThanksBob

Hi Bob,I'll try to explain step by step. (make a backup first)1 - Open the air file, click on section 1506,2 - Use keyboard arrow keys or mouse to select the cell you want to edit,3 - Hit enter and delete current value,4 - Type new value and hit enter,5 - Close the 1506 window via "X" button (Right top on window, next to the replace button),6 - Save the file via file menu and save comand,7 - Check the changes :-)I'm suprised how many simmers have diffuculty with aired, anyhow I'm sorry if anyone confused.I'm not a expert of flight dynamics editing, and I can't explain what does section 1506 etc.. All the numbers and idea is coming from my experiences.Changing colums or rows other than I wrote above will cause performance changes and comanded vs actual N1 mismatch, also don't touch other sections...

Hey Randy, I think any advanced simmer can make his/her own flight dynamics changes for self satisfaction, this also goes for panel and sound editing. I like smooth rolls (roll moment - roll rate, may cause wing rocking with PIC if you don't improve other parameters, another hint for PIC'ers) for example...> I really think that this ((MIGHT)) effect preformance in>flight, just how much it will effect is the million dollar>question here.>> Really I would like the main man ((WADE)) to stepup on in>this one, and explain for us the hazzards (if any) this>messing with the airfile will cause. Hi Bozhan,Thanks for getting back with your step by step process. I am pretty good with AirEd, have used it for some time to change certain parameters. However I was in a new area with this table. What got me confused was the formatting of the numbers. If you make an error with too many zeros, it will not take or save. In your colums for example you indicated that col no 20, First row value should read: 20 0.130000. The value that will take (save) is 20.013000. What changes is that there is only one period and the number of zeros at the end should be 3, not 4 zeros. Does this format agree with what you have in section 1506?ThanksBob

Bozhan,Your screen shot is really a big help. Thanks, as you can tell I changed the wrong numbers. I will let you know how it all works out, I am flying right now and was going to tell you that I did not notice a lot of changes, but now I know why. Thanks again,Bob
