New 767 and 757 sound package released

Featured Replies

kiek, take it from me and everyone else, they're quiet. This is a flight deck sound package, not a ponsy "sitting on the wing" or "flying along sat on the engine" sound package that you get from M$ ;)I'll leave it up to you to decide whether to use or not :)Cheers[br]obklogo.gif[/img]

A good thing to watch is this freeare clip of a 757. The sound recordings are almost exact during takeoff.http://airside.paradise.net.nz/video/britannia7571.wmvFrom AIRSIDETV.COMIgnore cruise on the movie as I think there was something wrong with the guys mic, as it has an annoying screethy sound on it in some scenes. It sure ain't there on all the DVD's I've watched!Cheers[br]obklogo.gif[/img]

Just a couple observations...Love the engine sounds at take off power and the spool up is great, but the volume of the air cond seems very high, hard to hear the wind rush for the air con. After shut down, with cold and dark cockpit, I can still hear the air con running very loud. After both engines started up, the sounds are predominantly left side. Starting 2 provides a minimal increase in air con sound, then engine 1 blasts the air con. The air rush comes later and sounds good, but is predominantly on the right only? Flying some more with it now. Rob.

System specs: Dual core E6300 (1.86g X 2), 2gb RAM, nvidea7800GT, Saitek yoke, CH throttle (6 lever), Soundblaster live.

Human specs: Desktop simulation since FS1, beta tester (LDS, FSL), 737NG simulator tech (Threshold Aviation), r sole+.

HI ACAI have made it so that when both engines have fully started, the aircon comes back on. So you start the right first, still no aircon, then the left starts, both completed and the aircon comes back on. As for panning, that seems to be a pain in the.... I have put a command into the sound.cfg to stop panning and just give sound out both speakers but flightsim just ignores it and does what it likes, so there's no way around that :SI am reworking the packs sound levels at the mo to comply more with the engine sounds and wind sounds. I also have a few other better sounds up my sleave since the release, I knew this would happen lol!As for cold and dark, I can't do anything about that. Once the sound cfg is activated it's activated and won't stop. I've told it to play electrics and aircond with the engines off assuming you don't go cold and dark (I ever do as I know the next "virtual" pilot needs it within 45minutes! so we go down to the line on secure checks...just the IRS go off etc etc, packs stay on).If you want it to be quiet, then there's a little bit in the readme about doing that. Just reselect the aircraft et al.I'll keep you up to date. I'm sat here at 00:36am trying to get a better reverse sound! I've tried so many audio edit programs but they refuse to do the work for me so I'm gona have to do it myself!Cheers[br]obklogo.gif[/img]

The reverser sounds good to me...As for the start up, yep I followed the standard procedures...no blast of air on eng 1 start, but lots on number 2.It is promising...good luck on the tweak-trail.Rob.

Confirm you started engine number 2 first? the right engine?Cheers[br]obklogo.gif[/img]

Right.I just finished a flight with another PIC head, same thing on his end. One side (left) is dominant, the air con and/or engine sounds are doing battle with each other or something weird. I repeated this several times with startups/shutdowns. Something is up with the balance of the sounds and how loud they are relative to each other...the air con/engine air/air rush 'relative' volume seems exaggerated.Love the spool up/down of the engine, the whine is right on...too bad the air con kills it at takeoff/taxi IMHO. The wonderful 767 'grind' is barely audible even when I crank the volume at t/off as it too is drowned out almost completely by air sounds on the left side until the air speed increased and then the right side air rush kicks in. That is a little weird me thinks. Air rush and engine "white" noise should be on both sides no? Panning issue? The sound set I use regularly (tweaked) also gives you a noticeable tone difference when the main gear lifts off/touches down (ground rumble stops/starts) this again is almost completely drowned out by the air con and/or engine -air- or rush sounds)...so I can "hear" that I am airborne...not so in your sound pack. The nice rattles and bumps during this phase is also gone. The reverser is similar to a replacement sound you had on your site some time ago, it is nice.I am no expert, just judging from some limited jump seat time a long time ago and some 767 video's which I have watched too often :-) I will try the 757 sounds, see if any different.I am sure 10 other people will have 10 other opinions...good luck!Rob.

something else I am afraid...Flying out of DCA on my third flight (had gone dark now), I hear calls from another pilot about the new sounds making his gear go down intermittently. What a twit I think...then I look at my panel, guess what...gear down and I did not put it there. I put it up...a few moments later it goes down again. I type chat to the other pilot, yep, 767 new sounds.Only difference I can see between the 1st and last flight was day or night time...the other pilot though it had to do with flap settings and gear coming down.Limping back to Toronto now wondering if gear is damaged ;-)I can't think how a sound can affect the landing gear extension, but it certainly is.Another mystery.Rob.

Put it back to day and same thing...intermittent gear extension...very strange I did not see it on the first two flights, but me and another guy are getting it for sure now every minute or two.Had the flaps up for 15 mins now, still gear keeps coming down.Damn.

That's what I am tryiing to figure out - it's nutty - hoyle had the same thing going on in his 767 at the same time over KDCA...reser fs and is not doing it...at the moment.

A thing I've noticed on the reverse is that at a certain point you hear the reverse closing even if you are still keeping it at maximum. I mean, the reverse sound is made so that after say 7-8 seconds you hear the spool down, no matter if you effectively close it or not.Can this be fixed, so that you hear the reverse power decreasing only when you close it?

Hey ACA,Your gear extension problem (and the others that you have reported it happening to) sounds very strange, and I'm sure you can understand, totally out of my control. There's no way a sound.cfg file can call for gear extension, it is only read once, and that is when you select an aircraft. It's just a reference file for information. As for the balance of sounds, this is what took ages and I did warn many users of it's slight innacuracy when I was contemplating releasing it, so bare with me on this one. However, it's no way out. I've worked with a few beta testers on this one and they have really helped me out, especially teropa with his outstanding sound samplesThe spool of the engines on takeoff....I'm just going to get you to listen to this, please http://airside.paradise.net.nz/video/britannia7571.wmvIn the 767, the engines are even quiter. The grind....Sorry to upset you here, but after countless "enquires" about this "GRIND" that we have all led to beleive in, it is, in the flight deck world...non existant. In the cabin, sitting ontop of the wing, your loving it because the cabin shakes and it gives you that buzz...but here in PIC, we fly from the flight deck and unless you floor the thrust levers and exceed engine vibration parameters, your not going to get that grind! If you do, it's a bad sign!HOWEVER! In the 757 I agree with you, high N1/EPR selection does infact grind! And I have included for that reason. Next time you use the 757 sounds, manually apply full power making sure you exceed about 103 N1....you'll see what i meanI am reworking the ground rumble after some sound sampling from Teropa.I like the reverser too....too bad it's a bit OTT though. I think it too was recorded from the cabin, and not the flight deck. I am workingn again with Teropa and his samples on this one, and really want to get rid of some background noise before I start using it...then it would be great. As for now, the reverser is just a sound file, the slightest bit of reverser engagement in flight sim plays the sound, and it will play over and over again until you disengage the sound...rather unrealistic yip. I can't make it increase/decrease in amplitude/pitch directly to the amount of reverse thrust, and I can't argue with microsoft, so this one is an unrealisitc one until I find something else.I'm constantly working on the sounds every hour of every day, what you have right now might be quite different from the next update in some respects as I can't stop tweaking! It's a pain, tho in the end worth it I guess. The panning is the worst thing. I have tried it with aircon on both engines...it sounds like a wahwahwahwahwah sound, alternating in amplitude....very horrible.Like I said when I realeased, it's an ongoing project and the cruise portion wasn't done down to perfection. Though I'll strive to get it right.Good luck with the gear. Try using a default sound package to see if it does it. I'd like to know the reason for that too.Cheers[br]obklogo.gif[/img]

Gave her a whirl, flaps repeat, A/C is "un-realistic" on levels. The Engine sounds cut out is you are between N1 60% and N1 65%. The transition is blank. The packs and electrics don't shut dn. I give it 5/10I re-installed my original. This beta need work, but has potential.Keep tweeking the waves and make the overlaps smooth and will try again. For now i am back to what I had, Philip A. Geddes P&W sound package, which I tweeked.IMO

Hi Bill, You don't seem very happy, and that's fair enough but the sound package today was tested by a DHL 757 captain, who gave it a slightly different rating that yourself. I've only just come off flightsim, been on it all day doing DHL routes and his personal opinion was someat more positive than yours. However, I am open to critism, though not as blunt .The repeating flaps...I haven't experienced this problem, though I know some people have and I'm fixing it.A/C is "un-realistic" on levels....The airconditioning isn't perfect...but I don't know what you mean "on levels"....The Engine sounds cut out is you are between N1 60% and N1 65%This sounds odd, they shouldn't be "cutting off" as you describe, unless you are ramming your thrust levers up and down continously, the sounds should transition smoothley, this is what took most of the time creating. The packs and electrics don't shut dn. Had you participated in the post by means of reading it first, you would know why... This sometimes annoys me when people can't be bothered to commit themselves to READ a post before they actually engage themselves init.Keep tweeking the waves and make the overlaps smooth and will try again. For now i am back to what I had.You make it sound so simple, and I wish it was, but you might be using your original for a long time to come as it doesn't get much closer to flightdeck reality than this I'm afraid. I guess you like sitting back in the cabin though :)Cheers[br]obklogo.gif[/img]
