sound upgrade

Featured Replies

Looks like we've burried two topics already!Anyway, another update, I knew I couldn't go more than a day without making one :)This corrects quite a few things, mostly in the 767. I must admit, I spent more time on making the 757 config during the first few weeks of the sound package and neglected the 767...but here's a much better rendition. Further to the packs topic....I've been speaking to a 767 pilot tonight and he says...-The packs don't make noise, it's the air from the recirculation fans that make the loud air conditioning noise.-When you turn the packs off, the recirculation fans are STILL MAKING THIS NOISE-When you start an engine (must be the right engine in my sounds), the recirculation fans are load shed, and the air sound disappears.-After starting the right engine, the generator comes online and the recirculation fan is powered again, and starts making noise...This is exactly how I have simulated the start procedure.Anyway the links are:http://homepage.ntlworld.com/obk/7675OBKUpdate2.ziphttp://homepage.ntlworld.com/obk/7675OBKUpdate2.rarLatest base package version 1.1 (still requires above update)http://homepage.ntlworld.com/obk/7675SoundObk.ziphttp://homepage.ntlworld.com/obk/7675SoundObk.rarIf you have base package 1.0 then you also require the first updatehttp://homepage.ntlworld.com/obk/7675OBKUpdate.ziphttp://homepage.ntlworld.com/obk/7675OBKUpdate.rarEnjoy :)Cheers[br]obklogo.gif[/img]

Hey obk, thanks a lot. After using PIC for so long time with the default sounds, your update makes the flying experience even better.Go on dude, fantastic work!!! :-)Matthias

Ben,The base package 1.1 doesn't want to download, 404.Also, you might want to check the reverser sound in the latest upgrade as well. Could you do it so that the high pitch reverse sound is on until reverse is disengaged, because it is not good to hear reverser spooling down while still having them on full thrust...Let me know if you need any sounds... I'll try out the latest update today later on for the rest of the part. (Only listened to the reverers with a sound recorder :))cheersTerops. the gear up sound is SPOT ON! Well done!

Thanks obk for your great creation!!I just tried the new update2 with base pack 1.1, FS sound setting are all in the middle, the great things are both speakers have a/c sound, and the engine sound from 25% to 60% N1 much improved, but i still find the a/c sound too loud, and the engine sound quite low, especially during take off, the reving sound should be louder all the way up, and very clear. I have both AIR DO & Britannia b767-300ER DVD from Just Planes, and i had carefully listened to the sound many times. I also have United B777-200 DVD, the a/c sound is just so loud, and much louder than in 767, i sometimes think did they just put the mic beside the recirculation fan?I guess all the mics they use are far less sensitive then our ears, and it may not record the same sound as the sound which pilots actually heard in the cockpit, including engine idle sound and slight vibrations from it, which resulted we feel the engine sound are too mute, some of them may use home camera with low profile mic to recoed those cockpit video clips, of course the sound will be much different and quieter with the real ones. These are just my feelings, i never go to a cockpit in any aircraft, and what i said maybe totally insane~lol i just trying my best to point out what i've heard in those DVDs and your nice creation, the sound package you've made are just so similar to them, except the balance, otherwise just perfect!! Thanks for your hours hours hard work, i really enjoy it!!Best Wishes :-wave Tommy

My only comment on all this is that you will all be surprised how loud the air noise from the recirc fans is, it is the loudest most over-riding noise on the flight deck, the engines are a background hum.

obk:Because I fly mostly on-line, I was first concerned with the background noise interfering with voice communications. However, following your advice, I tweaked the slidders so that now the fan or wind noise is not overwhelming, I can hear the engines spool up and down in the background even when the autopilot is revving up a bit to maintain altitude, I can hear the gear coming up and down, I can hear the flap clicks and, I can hear the controllers and other pilots on RW. I am happy.I was lucky (twice) to be in the cockpit of a (real) 767 during the cruise and landing stages. That, of course, makes me an expert in sounds :-). The only thing that I can remember is that with those big muffled headsets, you couldn't hear anything other than the voice communications!! ;-)You did a great job and truly enhanced the PIC767 flight experience.Congratulations and thank you for the effort!!Roberto

Thanks for your hard work OBK...Question... Is the upgrade zip file 1.1 in this thread the same as the one in the Mon Jul-21-03 08:19 AM post?I have downloaded that file, and am unable to download the 1.1 zip file in this post. I get a window saying that file is unavailable. Thanks again.Horace Riley

Having witnessed a 757 sitting on the ground today with PACKS ON & PACKS OFF, but both RECIRC FANS ON I would have to agree with HPSOV.The Recirc fans are the real noisy ones.

Horace & others having trouble downloading the 1.1 base package!Replace the "Obk" with capital letters "OBK" in the file name, and it works. I looked at the update files which were downloadable, and noticed they were also written with "OBK"...Tero

OBK,There is reference to a 1.2 file set yet I can not find it.I am a little lost with all the updates and changes. Any chance you have a link to a complete updated set of sounds you are working on or a step by step guide to setting up your latest?ThanksRob.

System specs: Dual core E6300 (1.86g X 2), 2gb RAM, nvidea7800GT, Saitek yoke, CH throttle (6 lever), Soundblaster live.
Add-ons: FSX: LDS767, FSL Concorde, FT E175/195, PMDG 747X/737X, Active Sky E, some freeware airports.
Human specs: Desktop simulation since FS1, beta tester (LDS, FSL), 737NG simulator tech (Threshold Aviation), r sole+.

Hi obk,First of all, I like your sound pack a lot. Thanx. What seems still missing to me is that you can't get a completely silent aircraft after you have switched of the engines, the electrical power, the battery, everything...Any news about updates to come?Regards,Nico
