September 10, 200322 yr Will try my best - have had nearly an extra week off work, due to the way my roster pattern worked out - back to work Friday however.
September 10, 200322 yr Some regulations and things you need to know about flying in Israel:1. When flying overland in Israel on Lower ATS routes (and you will only fly overland) we use local QNH rather than QNE (= standard pressure).don't be surprised to get the current QNH even when still flying high. Oh and if you really got to know, TL is FL115 (TA 10500).2. Here's a candy for you guys: We will use the real world procedure when flying at J10 as follows: You will be requested to fly "offset KINAR" - this is used for safety reasons in RL while there is traffic southbound. It means you have to fly 1 mile EAST offset on the route from SAMAR to SIVAK. From SIVAK you should get back on route (remember how to program the FMC to do it?). If you can't or don't want to fly the offset, state so in your readback!3. There is an apron with 5 parking positions at LLBG where the charts states only "1" "2" "3" "4" and "5" - these are actually reffered to as "star 1" "star 2" etc. (Reserved for El-Al airline in RL).Finally a word about where you're gonna fly:You will cross the border to Israel nearby Eilat, the resort city, on the northern coast of the Red sea. You will be able to see Eilat airport (LLET) if weather allows, just a few miles south to LOT vor. From Eilat you will continue north crossing the Negev desert, seeing some desert landscape along the way. Around SUKOT (a few miles south of MZD VOR) you will fly above the Dead sea, which is the lowest place on earth. A few miles northward you will meet the mountains of Jerusalem, and with good weather you will see Jerusalem airport (LLJR) west of TALMI or south to ALROD. And then you land. ;-)Hope to see many of you guys this Saturday. If I'll remember anything else I'll post it here...Thank you all,Ilan
September 10, 200322 yr Mike and Mark:I had to help one of my colleagues set up a shorter flight. The airport HSSS (Khartoum) is near the KTM VOR that is right along the route and establishes a flight of about 2:30 to LLBG, half of the entire route. With a 9750 ft runway, it is sufficient for the PIC.Hope this helpsRoberto Roberto Stopnicki Toronto, Canada
September 12, 200322 yr Hi, Mike and Ilan!It may be useful to provide those who want to follow the trip and learn the terminology of voice communication on pro controller or ASRC to provide sector maps departure, center and approaches so that one can visualize everything on ASRC or Pro Controller. Are such sector maps available?Michael
September 12, 200322 yr I can forward the ones for HKJK Tower and Ground, plus one for east Africa. These were provided to me by Ton Out through Kyprianos Biris. Please email me with request. For Isreal, you will have to request from Ilan through his email link. As I had said earlier, please contact via AIM for my current voice IP. I will keep your window open and try and pass the updated frequencies along after each handoff. Just remember, I also have to fly so expect a little delay.
September 12, 200322 yr Israel sector file is avalable in our website http://simdata.sourceforge.net/vatil/under downloads->ASRC sectors.
September 12, 200322 yr Only 28 hours left to launch time. Here are some last minute updates.Be sure to file the route exactly as shown on the first post. That is what ATC is expecting.File for either FL310, FL350, or FL390.Expect ATC to adjust altitude as necessary for separation.Expect ATC to assign lower EVEN altitude as you approach Israel.Winds aloft this evening are very near (overall) what they were when I did the initial FSBuild plan so fuel required to load is 58,800 pounds or 26.7 kilos. That should land you, assuming no holds, with around 13,500 pounds or 6.1 kilos. Expect around 4 hours 45 minutes in route. If flying PIC in FS9, load an additional 12% fuel, you will need it.Note that if you are trying to find HKJK in the original version of FSBuild 2.0, you will have to enter it as HKNA.Be patient if you show up and there are a lot of traffic waiting for clearance. Ian will do a great job but you must understand that if may take several minutes or more. There is not much room over Israel for holding paterns so expect to get separated out a bit during the cruise phase of the flight. Everyone have fun, I know I will.
September 13, 200322 yr Here is something I messed up on and forgot to post. Ernie provided a couple of flip charts for a good part of the African airspace we will cross. Here is a link to download it.http://simsource.net/files/MB327/flip1.zip578MB
