October 9, 200322 yr Hi guys,Sorry about the "non-PIC" questions, but I've posted before and find you guys a very helpful bunch :-). Plus I know there's a number of VATSIM fans here......Is the .c "dot" command in Squawkbox supposed to change the voice in Roger Wilco as well as the COM radio? The only way I've been able to get the voice to change over is to use the "ATC Directory" function in Squawkbox. I'm using SBHost in FS2002. The Roger Wilco About tab says it's version "Roger Wilco Mk.lc_mod1"All that being said, how do you pros out there change frequencies? Thanks for any help.CraigPIC FanWannabe Real World Pilot
October 9, 200322 yr Well the pros reach down and turn a knob, LOL. But this VATSIM junkie uses the ServInfo Gauge. It shows all ATC in range and handles the COM 1 radio freq and switches the voice channel on either Roger Wilco or the new AVC. The only glitch is that there is a couple of minutes of lag between the time a new controller opens up and you seeing it on the ServInfo gauge in the cockpit. In most cases that is not too big a problem but when you are on a busy arrival and approach suddenly hands you off to a tower that "just opened", you find yourself in a bit of a spot. To deal with it, I simply jump over to SB and use the ATC directory to change frequencies. Actually, I use multiple computers and WideFS with the voice program now running on a different machine than SB. In that arrangement even the SB ATC directory will not change my voice channel. So I just note the voice IP on the ATIS and manually tune the voice program to the new IP when I am forced to contact someone who just opened and does not appear on the ServInfo gauge. Or in a worst case situation, I tune my aircraft COM 1 frequency to the new controller and type "With you, voice unable at this moment".There are other programs (I hear) that accomplish the voice switch based on the selected COM 1 frequency. But I am not familiar with them.
October 9, 200322 yr Hi,To comment a bit on the voice switching programs.I'm currently using C.R.A.A.S. (http://craas.gatools.org/) which is made by a Finnish guy Aki Kettunen. CRAAS is currently in beta testing, and has also been sent to VATSIM BOG for approval (Mike, any word on this yet?). CRAAS will tune your RW in abt one seconds time after you tune COM radio. CRAAS supports COM1 and COM2, plus it delivers the airfields ATIS message in voice. It works beatifully already and I use it everytime I fly (I have a home cockpit console custom made for PIC767 by myself, you wouldn't believe how cool it is to just turn the knobs and tune the frequencies. To call departure after takeoff, I just press the STBY button, and standby freq will activate and CRAAS tunes the correct RW channel :))Also, there's a program called RW-Switch, which some people here use. I tried it, but found it unreliable. It would sometimes hesitate in tuning the channels, and sometimes it didn't tune at all. I myself prefer CRAAS.Tero PPL(A)
October 9, 200322 yr Author Hey Tero,Thanks for the reply. I can't find the file either. Can you send me a copy as well? Thanks.
October 9, 200322 yr Hi,CRAAS is currently under beta testing and development, and is not available for public download.I have given a link to a developer version of it to those who requested, and will continue to do so. So please email your CRAAS requests to [email protected] Terops. Craig, check your email. PPL(A)
October 9, 200322 yr This program sounds promising Tero. I have not heard anything about it before reading your post but if you are correct we should be seeing a proposal of some type in the near future. Forward that link to me and I will take a closer look at it's functionality.Mike
October 9, 200322 yr Tero,I'm flying the PIC767 for 3 years now and read this forum every day,This is the second time for a request.Tero is it possible to mail me the CRAAS.GATOOL to me?This is because the website is unable for a download.I use RW-switch but I,m not happy with it just like you.My adres is [email protected] a lot,Regards Cees van Diest EHAM Charlie Hotel
October 9, 200322 yr Tero,I have 2 computers,1 a P4 2,56 with FS2002 and wideserver.2 a P2 350 with SB, wideclient and RW.Is Craas also working with wideclient, and how to install this? Thanks in advance Cees van Diest EHAM
October 10, 200322 yr >Tero,>>Is Craas also working with wideclient, and how to install>this?Cees,Yes, it will work. Just put craas.exe in your Squawkbox directory, and tell craas via it's options menu where to find Roger Wilco.Groeten,Nicowww.nicokaan.nl
October 12, 200322 yr Hi Mike,At first I thought we were both using a similar setup and could not understand why the ATC directory would not change voice but I see you are running voice on a different PC to SB.I have SB & RW running on the same PC and can switch both RW & SB from the ATC directory.Rgds
October 13, 200322 yr Yes Vulcan, I started running SB on an old 300Mgz laptop a long time ago to take as much of the load off my flying computer as I could. When I got my new machine earlier this year, I just never got around to changing the configuration because of all the new processing capability I had. Then along came FS9 and I am glad I kept it that way. It is surprising how much an older PC can help out by picking up a few processes for you.SBAIBridgeSBRelayFSMeteo or ActiveSkyServInfoRWTrillian - (AIM/Yahoo/ICQ/MSN)But the biggest help is me keeping my text messages off of my "flying" keyboard. I can't tell you how many times I used to not have the keyboard focused on the chat line and changed a view, shut down an engine, or worse.Mike
