Changing Video Cards Nvidia 6800 Ultra FS2002

Featured Replies

I have a 5900 XT. Runs well in general..especially in the skies....60 fps atleast. But when it comes to scenery like Ohare, frames drop to 4 or 5. I have ann AMD 2.1 ghz w/333 bus. 768 ram . One question, do I check the AA in flight sim or leave it blank and just use the Nvidia menus for selecting AA?THanksIGO

"...do I check the AA in flight sim or leave it blank and just use the Nvidia menus for selecting AA?"DO NOT check AA in the sim. Doing so will mean that AA will be done by FS, which will place additional demands on your system (CPU, memory, FSB, etc) rather than letting your video card to that work. Always use AA in the nVidia tweaker and take the load off the rest of the system.Cheers,Greg

IGO, If you see my post above, you'll notice I check NEITHER with my system. That may be the way I have things set up but it works for me and was one of the reasons I wrote the reply to Chriss above. Hope that helps. Regards Blue

Somehow i will have to agree with soarpics on this .. if you want anti aliased scenes your supposed to disable AA within FS and enable it within the display properties.Reasons beingFS does not Anti Alias as wellFS AA uses more resourcesEnabling AA using Display properties would result in the Card doing the work and depending on your AA settings .. 2x/4x/6x your scenes will have significantly less Jaggies. If your system can handle it i would suggest the highest possible resolution with a 4x AA setting and a 8X AF setting.

Hi Guys many thanks for all your kind replies which are much appreciated. I have now upped my resolution to 1280 x 1024 and turned down the AA / AF settings, the results are very much better, so thank you all !Best Wishes,ChrisEGBB

My suggestion, if you can afford a Geforce 6800, dump FS2002 and get FS2004. I've heard that people on the Geforce 4 Ti have gotten good preformance out of it.

Chris, I have a Ti card like you... also use the 61.77 drivers which are very good. Now that you have found a resolution that you like, try to enable AA to 2X and AF to 4X in the nvidia display properties (under the performance and quality settings tab). In FS9 itself, AA should be unchecked. This should improve the visual quality further and not impact your display rates too much.Frankly, you should not expect to get a better picture out of upgrading your card, only better framerates at higher levels of AA and AF... so be careful before spending a whole lot of money!

Bert

Thanks BertWill do!Best Wishes,Chris
