Way too many thunderstorms in Europe

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,First of all, thanks for a great program. One of the few things that I find annoying is that there are thunderstorms almost every time I fly in Europe. For example, it is snowing in EGLL today, AtiveSky puts the snow in correctly, but adds thunderstorms. Here is the info right now:EGLL 300419Z 301206 34018G32KT 9999 SCT030 TEMPO 1206 5000 -SHSN BKN030CB PROB40 TEMPO 1406 2000 SHSN BKN014 BKN020CB TEMPO 1806 34017KTActual METAR: EGLL 301520Z 34027G41KT 3000 -SHSN SCT020 BKN038 01/M02 Q1007 TEMPO 1500 SHSN BKN010Any chance of this being fixed? I seem to remember someone else bringing this up.Thanks

Welcome to Activesky :) Either learn to live with it or purchase FSMeteo and problem will be solved.

Anakin,That's enough! You are now not only pissing ME off, but you are messing with my customers. I don't appreciate it. Nobody does. If you have problems you can email me and try to let me solve them. Here you are responding to a post to an issue that NO ONE has ever had before and you are telling everyone this is the norm and to buy a competing product.. You are doing this in MY private support forum.I haven't had you banned from the Forum, I have not deleted your posts. Are you trying to get me to do that? BTW, you never responded to my offer to let me assist you with whatever probs you are having. Actually, you haven't ever stated what problems you were having. Enough is enough.-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

Hi,You didn't show the METAR string you were using but from 12 to 1800Z CB (also known as Cumulonimbus, or Thunderstorm clouds) is forecasted. Things look like they are working as they should. Anakin,I have used FSMeteo for several years since it became available. I paid for the current update recently. Now that WxRE is available I never use FSMeteo. In my opinion your comment has no merit.Keith Cocker

Quite realistic I'd say. I live very near to Heathrow and today at about 11Z we had a snow shower with thunder & lightning :-)

Anakin is propogating rumors, supporting a competing product in a support forum, won't allow the developer to help with claimed problems, etc.Isn't this the classic definition of a forum TROLL?Damian, I know you said you want to help Anakin and won't give him a refund based on principle, but I say, let me send him $14 so we don't have to deal with his troll behavior. His petty demands for a refund reminded me of fingernails scraping on a chalkboard. If he gets his money back and still persists to be a nuisance, I don't see anyone having a problem with banning him. Support forums are not about freedom of speech, they exist to help users with problems.

Agreed Bruce..I still to this date have never received his order # or real name to verify his purchase and/or process a refund (despite requests). I cannot even verify that he is using ActiveSky wxRE. He is now banned from the forum, but I am thinking he might be back! To "Anakin" if you are reading this, please contact me with your name and order number, and we can discuss a refund or whatever it is that will make you happy. Maybe our little troll should change his name from Skywalker to Skywanker.I wonder what his nationalty is? I can't imagine he's a native English speaker. He wrote 'and problem' which, in the context of his sentence should, of course include the definitive article 'the'.Mind you, I make many mistakes myself when writing in forums.Gavin

Over 10 years here and AVSIM is still my favourite FS site :-)

Just to let you know: I live in The Netherlands close to Amsterdam. The last 3-4 days we have had a lot of rain, snow, wind and (yes) thunderstorms. Though they are short but heavy, we did have 'em all day long. Only since this morning the weather is clear and cold (-2 Celsius). So....wxRE is exactly reproducing the actual weather conditions. If FSMeteo did not show thunderstorms the last few days, my choice would be obvious....

I too am a owner of AS and FSMeteo. Since I started using AS there is no way at this point I can go back to FSmeteo. AS is the superior product, with great support from Daimian and what was said said was uncalled for.Bill M

Hi DamianIs that what you have programmed in to wxRE, if the METAR or TAF contains CB there is also a thunderstorm? There are a lot of CB-clouds that don't produce a thunderstorm, only showers of snow or rain. I would like to see the string TS in the reports before expecting any lightning./olle

Hi,By definition, CB = Cumulonimbus.Cumulonimbus that does not create thunderstorm? I have looked and looked but cannot find any information that supports that statement. Actually, the definition of Cumulonimbus IS a thunderstorm cloud. Can you point me to some information that supports your argument? I would love to make wxRE more realistic but your suggestion goes against what I know as a pilot of 12 years + reference text that I have! I'm not saying you are wrong, just that I need more information to support this kind of logic change.. perhaps others can chime in too? What do you think?-Damian

Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyThe next-generation weather environment simulation for FS2002!http://hifi.avsim.net/activeskyhttp://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/images/wxrebeta.jpg]
[/table://http://hifi.avsim.net/activesky/ima...]
[/table

Hi DamianIf all CB-clouds would produce thunderstorms there would not be any use for reporting TS = Thunderstorms in the METARs. As you know, CB-clouds are from the beginning small CU-clouds that grows in the vertical. Some grows a lot and produce thunderstorms and some doesn't grow so much and only produce showers. It depends on the vertical stability of the atmosphere. At least where I live (Sweden), we have a lot of CB-clouds that doesn't produce thunder and lightning. They should be avoided anyway because of the turbulence and maybe icing they contain. So my recommendation would be to let wxRE produce lightning only if TS is reported./olle

I can confirm that. I'm a real world pilot, too (ATPL), and from my experience there are often clouds with "CB" reported in METARs or forcasted in TAFs but there is no "TS" in the METAR because the CB cloud hasn't produced a thunderstorm (lightning, thunder and heavy percipitation).
