January 13, 200422 yr >FSUIPC: Minimal weather defaults>AS2004: Global Writes ON, Route-based wind smoothing ON, Local>Suppression ON at 80miles, Update Suppression ON at 2000ft.>All other options to preference. I'm a registered FSUIPC user and generally enable the graduated visibility and visibility limit options. (I like to limit visibility to below my cloud draw distance so I don't notice that clouds are not being drawn outside that distance.)Are there any problems still enabling these options with the alpha release? (I understand that I should turn off the visibility smoothing option.)Dave
January 13, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Dave,Graduated vis only works inside the global weather area (outside of wx stations) so it may not always be ideal but I don't see a problem with leaving it on. Vis limit is also fine. Vis smoothing is automatically controlled by AS2004, so its setting does not matter..Hope that helps!Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 13, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Ryan,Using squawkbox by any chance? Have ignore real world wx checked if you do? Can you post your fsuipc/as2004 ini files? Maybe something isolated to some settings here...Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 13, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member BTW,Vis ceiling transition.. yes, this is normal, and I agree it looks wierd. I am working on another FS9 "work-around" to address it, I think we'll have something much better here shortly...Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 14, 200422 yr Hello i can confirm that also Harald, but try it without AS2004 and you will see that there alway a hole all over your aircraft in FS9 even if you are in an overcast.I think there is a begining solution in changing the cirrus cloud overcast (to had with low cloud layer when it is overcast)See in g
January 14, 200422 yr Hi DamianI experience exactly the same phenomenon of sudden nearby clouds disappearance. It occurs exactly when the weather updates, but not every time. I was flying above Corsica, and the weather was OK with the nearby METARs. Then instantly, the nearby clouds disappeared, but the distant ones remained.I have alpha 2 installed.I have the same settings as Harald, except that I fly offline, I have an interval update of 10 min, and use FS time.My FSUIPC setting are minimum weather, except graduated visibility enabled, and I don't use SquawkBox.I'm presently not at home, but I can provide also pics or .ini files this evening.RegardsAlain

January 31, 200422 yr Hi Damian,With February almost upon us I was wondering if you could provide an update on the upcoming patch?I'm not looking for release dates here as I understand why developers are reluctant to give them. I was just wondering how things are progressing... any more luck reducing the wind shifts?
January 31, 200422 yr Author Commercial Member Hi Mike, things are progressing good...Shouldn't be too much longer.. I plan to have a new beta available within a few days if things keep smooth :) Yes there has been progress in wind shifts and new options are available to further reduce the problem. BTW Have you tried setting TurbulenceScale value in FS9.cfg to 0.20? This has reportedly dramatically reduced the wind shift effects on the aircraft. Do you note the same?Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation SoftwareDeveloper of ActiveSkyhttp://www.hifisim.comhttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004betateam.jpg Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
January 31, 200422 yr Thanks for the reply Damian!I had not heard of reducing the turbulence scale, but I will try that for my next flight.I'll be looking forward to the update. Thanks for your hard work.
February 6, 200422 yr Hi Damian, I just got my new computer and thought I would share my experience. Old system I had clouds limited to 40 miles in FS9 and 40 mile update in AS. New system is my dream machine and I pushed clouds to 80miles and 80 mile update on AS. Old system would almost 99% clouds pop off at update suppresion altitude I had set at 10000. New system - just flew from KDEN to KSLC, OVC and snow in DEN climbing out broke out at around 19000. The descent into KSLC was incredible! West of the mtn range and the valley was low overcast to the north and west, to the southwest mostly clear. The overcast was tucked up against the mtns no flicker and no pop out. In the soup about 14000 to about 7000. Flying PSS A343. Still had the horrendous wind shears, but everything else was awesome. I have 2G ram on this and old system was only 512M (sheesh, who woulda thought we would say ONLY). Could the pop out be a ram issue or possibly the mileage.Just a thought. Love the program, please tell me the winds will be better. ;-)Chris Saunders
