Hi Damian,I also can tell you it's not a visibility issue. Clouds disappear during my updates. They don't when I turn off the updates. I'm turning off the updates by putting the supression ceiling above my flight level. These disappearances, however, don't occur at lower altitudes. They show up usually at higher levels.Everything else works great, though.Hope you can fix it,Thanks,Scott

Bob,I might have mis-read your first post. In it you talked about AS2004. That file is called AS2004.ini and is located in the ModulesAS2004 folder in FS. The file you posted is the correct file, but it's from wxRE, our program from FS2002 that was updated to work with FS04. I just need to know if you are using wxRE or AS2004!!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi Jim,Well put me down for the dumb dumb award of the month. In my haste to get you the .ini file, I forgot about my "old" version of AS. Here is the .ini file for AS2004. //AS2004 configuration file[General]WindowPosX = 5160WindowPosY = 5205DefaultWeatherFolder = C:Program FilesMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator 9ModulesActiveSky2004SuppressionCeiling = 2000SurfaceWindLimit = 10CloudLayerLimit = 10LocalSuppressionRange = 80OnlineUpdates = TrueExtendedDestinationWindsForce = FalseGlobalWrites = TrueVoicePlayback = FalseLocalSuppression = TrueStartupSound = FalseUseProxyServer = FalseFogLayerGeneration = TrueUpdateSuppression = TrueOvercastEnhancement = TrueRouteWindSmoothing = TrueLimitSurfaceWinds = FalseLimitCloudLayers = FalseDisableUpperLayerGeneration = FalseVisibilitySmoothing = TrueDisableMessages = FalseAutoTimeZoneDetection = TrueUpdateInterval = 60VATSIMData = FalseZuluConversion = -7TAFProcessing = TrueWakeTurb = TrueStartPaused = FalseUseSystemTime = TrueDisableCAVOKClouds = FalseProxyAddress = NONEThanksBob

No, it's OK!As I look at your settings I notice 2 things, TAF ON and a refresh time of 60. With those settings you may be seeing the TAF become the active report and not the METAR, all depending on the timing. My suggestion: turn TAF OFF and see what happens.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Hi Damian,I did some more test flights last night with TAF off and I did not see the sudden cloud disappearances then.I don't know if this means there's a bug with TAF or not.Scott

Hi Damian and Jim,I read with interest this thread, having already initiated the previous thread titled

As always, thanks for your report.JimActiveSky Support

Hi Scott,Thanks for that report... Yes, it very well may be a TAF processing issue or at least partially related. Can anyone else also experiencing cloud pops please turn off TAF processing (if currently enabled) and advise if you note a change? Thanks a bunch...-Damian

Hi Damian,On my "virtual" flight to the super bowl (grin), KDEN to KIAH, I did turn off TAF processing to test this theory, and no I did not notice any difference in cloud pop ups. What I did notice is that when Active Sky is updating, the pop up problem occurs. What I have observed is that AS, will produce accurate cloud environment and then when the updates occurs, it attempts to "redraw" what is happening. What was once there, disappears and then AS recreates it again after the update. This pop up probem ONLY happens after an update. I have not used AS with no online updates, but I would expect that folks that are using the program with no online updates have not seen this problem.I am a strong advocate that atmospheric conditions change from one hour to the next and belive that this update function is very important. However AS changes these conditions way too fast and then we see the dramatic changes that everyone is observing. What I would think should happen is that AS would write these changes and them make then happen in a slow process. I think that FSUIPC has this coded, but Pete algorithm is not working the way he intends in FS9.Let me know what you guys thinkBob Johnson

Bob,During development we figured that something was causing pop ups and we saw it was updates in AS. Then the local supression option was put in place. In theory it prevents stations within an XX mile radius from updating. Therefore you should be able to fly smoothly and see clouds change. All of this does fit in with the way station based weather works. You are right, conditions do change and METARs do get updated with different conditions, but with local supression they change outside of your visual range. Gosh, I wish I could have everyone over for a flight, because I never see popups in level flight.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Support

Jim,What I would hope that you and Damiam could work on is a "forced" method of making changes to the enviroment happen very slowly. What I did notice is that changes during non update cyles happen very slowly. However when a online update happen, the pop up, wind etc items made an imediate change, causing this cloud pop up condidtion. If you can check this out this week end, while not watching the Super Bowl (grin). The southern USA is full of bad weather, fly there and see what happens with your new beta work.CheersBob

Bob,I have always flown offline, and I experience also the cloud pop-outs, ONLY when the weather updates - more accurately when AS2004 writes data to FSUIPC/FS9.Hope this helpsAlain

Jim,I now have "Supression Ceiling" now set to 2,000 and "Local Supression Range" to 80. I always "Clear all weather" using FSUIPC prior to starting AS2004 and click "Minimum weather defaults". I am still getting Pop-ups when AS2004 updates the weather. Thanks for your help.Steve Canham
