September 21, 200421 yr Author Commercial Member Hi,I notice that the METARs are different as per the screenshots. It appears that in the AS version you are getting wx from nearby areas with much "better" conditions. This is FS9 interpolation doing its thing. For a true comparison the wx must be the same.I also notice stratus being rendered with AS, this is due to the air stability being computed as "high" based on the conditions. FS doesn't do this computation and forces cumulus most of the time, thus the "thicker" yet not as realistic depiction at times.Yet, because there is rain, the stratus layers should be thicker than is shown. Not sure why it appears so thin. I will take a look at the stratus layer thickness code to make sure things are proper. Thanks for your report! Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
September 22, 200421 yr Damian and Jim, here is a screenshot with the above weather (which I saved in AS at that time) locked at 15 fps I usually stay at 24 fps...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/91936.jpgThis is how it really looked, at 24 fps, I built this with the user defined weather in FS...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/91937.jpgMy concern is that it should be completely ovc as far as you can see, I wait for days like this, we do not get them often here in NM, I couldn't wait to get home and fly in this weather.Allen ThayerAsus P4P800 DeluxeP4C 2.4ghz1 gig Corsair XMS DDRATI All in Wonder 9700 ProSB Audigy 2 ZS160 Gig SATA HDComcast cable ModemMSFS2004Ultimate Traffic 2004Active Skies 2004.5 build 142FSUIPC 3.+ (Registered)FSBuild 2.1FS Flight Keeperhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
September 22, 200421 yr Hi,How far was the station from your location?Clouds with User defined weather will hardly ever match up with AS clouds.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
September 23, 200421 yr Jim, I work at the location (Cutter Aviation KABQ). Would you like me to email the weather file to you?AllenAsus P4P800 DeluxeP4C 2.4ghz1 gig Corsair XMS DDRATI All in Wonder 9700 ProSB Audigy 2 ZS160 Gig SATA HDComcast cable ModemMSFS2004Ultimate Traffic 2004Active Skies 2004 build 132FSUIPC 3.+ (Registered)FSBuild 2.1FS Flight Keeperhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/ng_driver.jpg
September 23, 200421 yr Allen,In AS how far was the closest weather station? What we are getting at is that weather from nearby stations is also used. If the weather is different at those stations you will get a blended effect, not the exact conditions reported in the METAR. Damian has already said that he is looking into the cloud layer things.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
September 25, 200421 yr I seem to be having a problem with winds and temperatures at high altitudes. I'll be crusing at FL330 ad showing winds at 5 knots and my TAT will be around 40 degrees (thats positive not negative) at M0.82. I can tell the temps are high because of the high engine readings (N1 N2 EGT and fuel flow) indicating the temperature to be high.Under normal conditions my TAT should be around -10 to 0 degrees (I don't have a OAT or SAT gauge installed) and I figure winds should be above 30 odd knots at least.I can gather more info for you if you are not aware of this problem. The only real difference is the fact I've got AS2004 running on another computer.I only started having this issue with the latest beta release.Otherwise, keep up the good work.best regardsFraser
September 25, 200421 yr Hi,What temps were being reported in AS at that altitude?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
September 28, 200421 yr Ok,I just tried the newest version of wideclient and now the temps and winds are what they are suppose to be.Also I think you'll need to look at the wake turbulence feature. I know a 747 can flip over a C172... but I had a Beech1900d cross my path about 1/4 mile away and the next thing you know I was slamming my throttles to the gates and pulling full on the yoke to hold my DC10-30 weighing in at 385000 lbs from augering in from 2000 feet. Things settled down and I recovered at 500 feet.Anyways, perhaps there's a way you could slam on various levels of turbulence depending on the size of the aircraft causing it and if its extreme then nose down the trim to simulate a "death" drop.FraserSGA
September 28, 200421 yr Hi,Glad you fixed the one problem.Do you have Increased Wake Effects checked On? That really ups the effects. Right now the type of plane does influence the wake effect.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
September 28, 200421 yr No, I've never had the increased effects on, just the regular setting. I experimented again last night flying the DC10 then a 747, both at MTOW and I hunted down a Dash 8 and came up behind it....... and wham!!!!!I don't know if it makes any difference but I am using Ultimate Traffic as well, so perhaps with that amount of info, activesky is overloaded???? Just a tought.FraserSGA
September 28, 200421 yr Active Sky may not be overloaded, but you may be getting wake turbulence from multiple planes.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg
