AS6 upgrade and DXT problem

Featured Replies

Hi Chris and everyone,Firstly, thanks very much for the complimentary upgrade to an already great program. It's very much appreciated.I followed the instructions and removed ASV durng the AS6 install but the one thing I didn't do was to uninstall the AS Enhanced update before the main ASV uninstall. The AS6 install went fine with one exception.I'm running AS6 via WideFS and in the Options screen on Active Sky Graphics I've pointed the program to the full network path flyingmachinefs2004. I haven't actually mapped a drive as it doesn't seem necessary. The relevant bits from AS6.INI are...PersonalAppDataFolder = flyingmachineApplication DataFS9Path = flyingmachinefs2004However, on that options page there is an option to select DXT but I can't check the box. I've read elsewhere that it may be because RenderToTexture entries are missing in my FS9.CFG. Well, I can't find any such entries but when I load FS9 'Render To Texture' is enabled.I'm concerned that I may not have done something correct even though the program talks to FS9 okay and all the clouds appear to be as good as ASV versions. Frame rates are also comparable. Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

Hi Jim,Yes, I saw that tip last night but I couldn't find any entries in FS9.CFG even though the box was ticked in FS itself.I've now created a entry in the one DISPLAY driver section I have. This is what I've entered...RENDERTOTEXTURE=1immediately under the line TriLinear=1It hasn't made any difference unfortunately. Clearly the paths are okay as AS6 updates the weather okay. I'm just concerned as to why I can't enable DXT mode with any advantages it brings.Cheers,

Michael,I've done that already. There was nothing there until I added an entry tonight. We are talking about the FS9.CFG in this folder on my FS PC?C:Documents and SettingsMyNameApplication DataMicrosoftFS9However, there might be a simpler solution to this... In the file ASG.INI there is an entry DXT3Option = "False".Could I not just change this to "True"?Cheers,

>Could I not just change this to "True"?Try it. I have it set at true.Something is fishy. FS9 knows whether you have rendertotexture set from your cfg file. If there is none there must be something else. Yes, you showed correct path. When you toggle this switch on/off in the FS9 settings the information must be written somewhere. By making other changes you may find out if this is the right file, experiment on your own.Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg

Hi Michael,I decided to change it to "True", save the INI and reload. Unfortunately the box was still unchecked and when I looked in the INI it was set back to "False". All very weird.I also tried your suggestion and renamed my existing FS9.CFG and let FS9 create a new one. It did but it didn't create any RenderToTexture entries in the DRIVER section. I should add at this point that I have two monitors attached to this PC but even after adding the render entry to both sections just to be on the safe side it still didn't make any difference to AS6.I will save a copy of FS9.CFG, switch RToText off, save FS9.CFG and compare the two files. Any differences will be highlighted. It's so bizarre but it won't beat me. I also did a Repair on AS6 but to no avail. Ultimately I'm sure the clouds are the correct ones but I don't like things not working properly. Thanks for all your help. When I find the cause I'll post it here.Cheers,

Ok chaps, last post for the night.I disabled 'Render To Texture' in FS9 and exited. Check the FS9.CFG and there was an entry RenderToTexture=0.I loaded FS9 and enabled the option and exited. Opened FS9 and the entry has disappeared. So by definition it's on without requiring an entry to switch it on. That would explain why I couldn't see any entry before. So why is ActiveSky reporting the option is set to Off when it's clearly set to On?As I said earlier I haven't mapped the drive on which FS9 is loaded. I'm just sharing the FS9 folder (with write access) across my network of 2 PCs. AS6 appears to be confused.Time for bed. I'm continue this in the morning.

Hi Ray,What is the FS9 path set to in ASG options? Really seems like there are (or was) 2 installations of FS, and something is getting confused here..Please send your ASG.ini and ASv6.ini for double-checking if you continue having problems. Thanks!Best,

Hi Damien,Here are the entries from the two INI files...ASV6.INIFS9Path = flyingmachinefs2004PersonalAppDataFolder = flyingmachineApplication DataAnd from ASG.INI[ASG_Saved_Configuration_Values]CurrentTheme = "Wx-Influenced"FS9Folder = "FlyingmachineFS2004"CloudResolution = "256"DXT3Option = "False"I've only ever installed FS9 once on this computer although I did physically move the FS9 folder to a new hard drive a few months ago. But, I went through the Registry and changed the drive letter so it correctly pointed to the new location. The folder name stayed the same - it was only the drive letter that changed.Given that AS6 communicates fine with FS9 I'm happy that this side of things is working okay. The bit that doesn't seem to be working is the link to my FS9.CFG via the PersonalAppDataFolder path. As you can see I have that as a full network path rather than a mapping to my C drive.I'm also a bit confused why AS requires an entry in FS9.CFG for RenderToTexture=1 when FS9 only needs an entry when it's set to off.I've attached both INIs just in case you can spot something strange. Thanks for your help during what must be a very busy time for you.Cheers,
