August 22, 200322 yr Hi Geofa,I have a couple of simple question for you. If you can answer you can probably help me a lot in trying to full understand what's happening here:Which are the specification of your system (motherboard, chipset, type and amount of RAM, sound card, etc) ?Which are the setting (resolution, color depth, AntiAlias, etc.) you use in FS2004 for display and traffic ?Which are the scenery, weather and aircraft quality settings (the sliders) ?Which is the resulting Frame Rate you get ?Finally, it would be very helpful if you can post a copy of the FS9.cfg file you are using.ThanksMikey4468
August 23, 200322 yr Mikey,I have a 2.0ghz P4 with GEForce Ti4600. Traffic is at 100% in the rural areas but I do reduce it to 60% in cities. Everything else is maxed except I don't have the water effects on. Frame rates stay in the 20's.David
August 23, 200322 yr Via motherboard, athlon 2100+, 512k ram, inboard sound card.1024x768, 32 bit, no aa, traffic about 40%.Every maxed except terrain mesh 90%, aircraft high-clouds 40%.Frames 12 in high density airport, 20 low density. If I set Autogen on low 20 and above and very smooth. Please keep in mind I never claimed a performance increase-but that my sliders started doing something (autogen especially)which enabled me to get a performance increase....Not sure how to post fs9.cfg file here.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/Geofdog2.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
August 23, 200322 yr Thank Geofa, this help a lot and makes a lot of sense. To post your FS9.cfg you should click on "click here to choose your attachments" that is at the end of the windows where you normally type your messages and select the fs9.cfg file to post together with your message.Happy flyingMikey4468
August 23, 200322 yr You mean even AUTOGEN is set to "extremely dense" ?What about display resolution and color, AntiAlias, texture size, mipmapping, filtering etc. ?Sorry for bothering you but I found on my system that has similar spec (AMD 1900+ XP, 512MB DDR RAM, GeForce 4 Ti 4600) that playing at 1280x1024x32 with antialias off I can put everything to MAX and I do not notice a big decrease in FPS if I have AUTOGEN set to none and I loose about 5 FPS for each tick of the Autogen slider. Currently to have about 20 FPS I've set the slider at NORMAL. Another frame rate killer on my system if the "GROUND SCENERY CAST SHADOW". If I enable it it usually cut my FPS in half. All the other settings have minimal to no impact on frame rate.ThanksAnd, as always, Happy (and smnooth) flyingMikey4468P.S: Can you attach your FS9.cfg file to your reply. It will be attached in TXT format but it will be ok.

August 23, 200322 yr I don't think there is an answer. Some have reported great effects, some have reported none.To try what I did however you would replace your line with (in brackets):DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA Drivers on Win2K/XPHope that is what your question is after.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/Geofdog2.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
August 23, 200322 yr Thanks Geofa,I'll analyze it closely anf I'll make a comparison with mine. I've just scanned through it very briefly and I've noticed that the stting for "GROUND_SHADOW" is zero, meaning that your scenery object will not cast any shadow, only aircraft will. This makes a lot of sense as this is one of the setting that it's really burning out lots of CPU cycles. Also you have sound quality to low that can help increasing performance if your sound card is not of a new generation.I guess that if you increase sound quality and enable again ground shadow you may go back to the previous state where the slider seemed not to work as the CPU was overloaded. But, anyway, this is just achademic, the important thing is that you are now an happier simmer. Thanks for all and Happy flyingMikey4468
August 24, 200322 yr I have always had those settings set-never have cared for ground shadows and the sounds makes little difference on my setup.http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/Geofdog2.jpg Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
