April 18, 200422 yr Thanks,I tried that and no joy. My boy just tried steam/counterstrike and it was all messed up. I've gone back to the Omega 45.23a and everything now works OK.Russell
April 18, 200422 yr At the risk of repeating advice from many regular users of this forum, when you go from one series of drivers to another its ALWAYS the best approach to uninstall the previous drivers using add/remove programs, then run one or other of the various Nvidia driver cleaning utilities. You'll find details throughout the forum. Search for `driver cleaner`. It's hardly surprising your change to the new drivers was not trouble free if you've gone from 4x.xx modded drivers to official 5x.xx drivers. Some of those Omega optimisations MUST be cancelled out before you can get a happy installation. Also, just a reminder that you do NOT, repeat NOT, have to delete the FS9.cfg file and lose all your precious settings. When changing cards or upgrading drivers you ONLY need to remove the DISPLAY settings that look like this:(DISPLAY.Device.NVIDIA GeForce FX 5600.0)Mode=1152x864x32AntiAlias=1This will save ou ages in restoring settings and assignments and when you launch FS you only have to reset the basic display preferences.Allcott

April 19, 200422 yr Thanks Allcott, you're right of cause. I should have checked the forum first instead of listening to a friend.Russell
April 19, 200422 yr Well, I downloaded the driver cleaner and followed the instructions to the letter, three times. Still the same result. fs9 gives an error on startup and thats it. My boys games won't work either. Never had this trouble changing drivers before. Looks like I'm stuck with the Omegas.Russell
April 22, 200422 yr There is another utility that I use when I uninstall old drivers. Before I install the new drivers I run this simple utility, R.I.P."This free utility is designed to remove the remains of Detonator AFTER you have uninstalled the i913900KF (5.8GHz) | Case: Fractal PopAir RGB I Gigabyte Z790 UD AX| MSI Gaming RTX 4070Ti Super 16GB | Kingston Fury Beast 64GB DDR5 5200Mhz | SOLIDIGM P41 Plus 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD | Samsung SSD 870 EVO 2TB | Thermalright Frozen Notte 240 MM Liquid Cooling | LG EVO 42" Monitor 3840 x 2160 120Hz | Honeycomb Alpha & Bravo | Logitech G Pro pedals | Tobii EyeTracker | 850W Thermaltake 80+ GOLD |
April 23, 200422 yr This is getting really embarrassing, I removed the Omega drivers with add/remove,run R.I.P and follow all instructions to install the 56.72 drivers. Everywhere I look it tells me 56.72s are successfully installed. When I try to start fs9 it gives an error and wont start. It tells me the report it wants to send to MS is in C/docs/Russell/local/temp/Wer1.appcompat.txt. The Wer No. changes with each attemt to start fs9, but when I go to this location its not there. Also in the temp. folder I noticed there were three fs9 start applications, EBU1,2 and 4 all with the same date. Don't know if this is normal but thought I'd mention it in case it's relevant. Thing is, the Omega's go back in with no trouble and fs9 starts up OK. The only reason I want to try the other drivers is the fact that if I lock the fps above 16 the scenery goes by in a series of jerks. I would have thought my system should handle it a bit better. All my settings are medium to low.WinXP proAMD 2400xp512mb ddr ramDX9bGF4 Ti4600 128mbSB AudigyRussell
April 23, 200422 yr Did you delete the driver settings in FS9.cfg? At this point I would back up the fs9.cfg, rename it and see if FS starts then. Allcott
April 23, 200422 yr I did that Allcott, still got the "error, must shutdown" I'm going to stick with the 45.25. I'm moving house in a few weeks which will put a few quid in my pocket, so I've decided to get a bigger machine. Went to price one up with the AMD 3200 or 3400 and the guy said " Oh,you don't want one of those,go for the Pentium 4" So that will be my next b----y headache. I reckon fs9 is very good value, it's just the fortune it costs to get the damn thing to run good. Thanks for your help anyway.Russell
April 25, 200422 yr I used 52.16 in the past then I moved to 53.03. After reading your post I installed the 56.72. The improvement in fps was minimal if any. Possibly a smoother simming. The good point was that, as someone pointed out in this thread, I can now scroll the kneeboard, what was not possible before. The bad point is that the letters in the menu bar, as well as in other menus, seem rather fuzzy. To make sure I was not mistaken I went back to 53.03 and all letters were sharp.I am keeping 56.72 mainly due to the benefit in the kneeboard scrolling, but I would like to know whether someone else has experienced the same. My resolution is 1024x768.Regards,
April 25, 200422 yr Hi.As I posted before in this thread, I did not get much of an improvement when moving from 53.03 to 56.72, but I had the same scroll problem with 2xAA as you had. 56.72 solves it. However the letter in the several menus and on the top menu bar are now rather fuzzy. Have you noticed the same? My resolution is 1024x768.Regards,
May 3, 200422 yr Follow on... I am now on 60.72 drivers and the last few display anomalies have disappeared. (Screen disruption when hitting the alt key in FS9, or at the loading screen of the PMDG 737-800, and lastly menu heading text colour fixed).Ti4200 2XAA, 4XAF Bert
May 4, 200422 yr www.guru3d.com has new beta reference Nvidia drivers - the 61.11's which contain gaming optimisations for specially for the GF 6800 series, but which produce good results in my GF FX5600. Although I don't see any IQ enhancement over the 60.72 (and the Starstorm 56.72X remain my preference for overall picture quality) the 61.11 introduce a new smoothness abbove even the 60.72's.As always, if going from 5x.xx to 6x.xx sereis drivers, run Driver Cleaner or equivalent to remove all traces of previous drivers. This appears to be important for the new generation of Forceware drivers as it appears driver refinements have been made at pixel shader level. Allcott
