August 10, 200520 yr I am a old simmer with a recent re entry.Need advise on what would be the mininum requirements for FS in regard of video card taking into consideration that I would be running panels and scenery that require such hardware.
August 10, 200520 yr The minimum requirements are something like a DX7 capable card with 64 Meg video memory.Getting a faster card with more (128 Meg) memory will give you better performance, however.Practically speaking, an ATI 9800 or a Nvidia Ti4200 are the minimum you should consider.. Bert
August 10, 200520 yr Any Geforce card of the Ti seris can do it and ATI 9600 and up. Otherwise you will not be able to run it without stuttering and lousy graphics. I spent over 500 for my ATI X800XT PE (Saffphire) and let me tell you I do not regret it. FS is not too much better than a fast one generation old card but every single other game shows leaps and bounds..I can run AA/AF much higher now though..
Randy J. Smith
Randy J Smith
August 10, 200520 yr Arni - I'd say R9800Pro (<$140) is a good price/performance compromise. Don't expect much improvement from newer cards. Also, there are a lot of used ones on eBay for less than half that price.Keith
August 10, 200520 yr IMO, Video cards are overhyped and overated. Yes..you need a video card with atleast 128MB. The marginal difference of a higher end Video card is not worth it IMO.I once bought a GeForce FX 5900Ultra for $600 bucks. What a waste. I could have gotten one for arounbd $100 bucks and I wouldn't have lost much. These card manufacturers haven't even solved that silly shimmering problem. They throw these numbers "millions" around... for geekspeak. Ultimately its what you see in your screen. Even after you have everything else all perfect (Processor, Mother board, Monitor), and after all the hacking that you have to do.. Tweak this..set this... Its still a disappointment for what you paid..in relative to the price of your other computer. The other day.. I got a dell XPS Gen 3 for $800 bucks and it came with a video card (128MB) and it works just fine. I would rather add another computer with Wideview and get lot more value than than a hotshot Video card. For the price they charge...its a scam. JMO. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
August 13, 200520 yr I'd agree. The 9800 Pro is an excellent card for FS2004 (or any version). And there's no need for the 256MB version, the 128MB card works just fine.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage.
