Nvidia appears to be ignoring 7800GT/GTX simmers...

Ok, did some more testing this morning. You will need to run Coolbits (registry merge) to open up the extra settings and Select "Advanced Settings"To make FS2004 work on 81.95 without any issues:1. Load the FS 2004 performance profile for nVidia control panel2. Use AA - 2X or 4X or OFF (do NOT use any Q or S options)3. Texture Optimization = OFF4. Force Trilinear5. AA optimization = OFF6. AF optimization = OFF7. In FS2004 - MipMap = 4 (anything higher produce strange results)I still do NOT get texture corruption WHILE flying no matter what settings I use on my 7800GTX 512MB cards -- either in SLI or single card.AND, FS2004 will use and work in SLI mode. You have to know how to setup the drivers to do so: http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_sliAA_howto2If you opt to run FS2004 in SLI mode using SLI 16X AA you will get texture and screen problems at the Create a flight screen (usually the Aircraft gets corrupted or not visible at all). But this is the only place I encountered a problem, during flight everything is good. Oddly my min frame rates never go below 30 fps, and never seem to exceed 40 fps -- if I run non-SLI I get a huge variance from 30 - 70 fps. For me, SLI 16X AA is definitely the way to go as the image quality is amazing at 1920 x 1200 -- I can live with the texture corruption in the create a flight screen.I am running on a fresh OS install that has only ever seen the 81.95 drivers and my FS9.1 install has NOTHING else loaded (no add-ons at all). Also, in SLI 16X AA mode I don't get or see any texture loading issues at all when moving into new scenery areas or changing views -- I do when running in non-SLI mode.

I just tried your exact instructions on a freshly reformatted machine and it didn't make a bit of difference. Back to the 78.03's and everything is fine. The 80 series drivers are bugged, simple as that.

I have a Nvidia 6800 GTO and installed the nvidia 81.95 drivers a few days ago. I started getting sudden lockups and crashes of FS9 and windows with a nv4_disp.dll error mostly when I moved or selected something with the mouse, which I never had before. Message from MS after the "blue screen of death" , said to check all recently installed drivers.......... Had to roll back to Nvidia 78.01

Great so it's affecting 6800 users as well... Very seriously considering e-bay'ing this thing and going for the X1800XT.

>Very seriously considering e-bay'ing this thing and going for the X1800XT.I'm very close to doing the same... I'd always been very happy with ATi, had a 9800, an X800, an X850 and then I thought, I'll give one of these new Nvidia's a go, they seem to be all the rage now... Wrong decision...Just a quick question for John, Are the dual slot ATi coolers still on a par with a GE90 when it comes to noise levels or have they somewhat bearable now?

As much as I hate to say this Nvidia isn't going to do one thing to solve this problem. Yea they know about it.I asked a modder could he write some drivers for us to work with FS9.His comments: Flight Sim is one of those games nVidia seems to want to keep broken. With 'anomalies' that bad, I really don't think there's a single thing the modders can do, as it appears to be a glitch in rendering order or Z-buffering, or something. What I CAN offer you though, is to add 512MB 7800GTX card support to a 70 series set of your choosing so you can run those. Choose the set, and let me have your Device ID, as well as any other 7800GTX 512MB device IDs(talk to your flight simming buddies ) and we'll see if we can't get you guys back in business, even if it is with an older set for now

Ok folks, this doesn't make sense. If 70 series drivers work with FS9.1 but 80 series don't (80 series works on my 7800GTX 512MB SLI setup with a few minor issues) then this is clearly a driver issue -- it can NOT be anything else.Rob.

My card's going up on ebay this weekend I think, I'm tired of this... Never thought I'd see the day where ATI was demonstrably ahead of Nvidia in driver support, they lagged behind for so long...

I didn't have any luck with the ATI card. It also played #### with my MS Money 2006. I am on a twin monitor system and for some reason ATI doesn't like me or a twin hook up. I failed to say I solved my problem with the 7800/512 card. I had a 6800gt over night to me. Installed it today. It really sucks to buy a big dog card like that only to see total failure in the texture area. I was so much looking forward to seeing this card strut it's stuff in FS9. The only thing the card did to FS9 was poop-poop on the game...lol. Over a grand in video cards in the last two weeks. Da big dog is under the bed resting for now....Mike

Is there any more information on this problem? I have just installed two XFX 512Mb FX7800 GTX cards in SLI mode with the 81.95 drivers and can run FS9 only in windowed mode. In full-screen I see all kinds of artifacts and depending which output socket I use I get the misplaced textures even in windowed mode. Will the 77.77 drivers support SLI?George

I wish I had done my home work on this card because I would have never invested this kind of money and get total failure in FS9. Kinda makes me wanna barf.Even at the Nvidia site the fliers of FS are putting up a fuss over this. Look under Simulation Thread...Mike

George,7800GTX 512MB SLI does indeed work with FS2004. I don't know your exact hardware setup but I do know it works well for me. What I suggest:1. Make sure your Audio card is not sharing an IRQ/DMA - with my Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe (rev 1.02) this is PCI slot 3, motherboard manual will tell you.2. Do NOT run Beta BIOS (someone else was running a Beta Asus BIOS -004 variant)3. Go into the BIOS and disable any features you do NOT use -- i.e. the Asus has two NIC, disable the nVidia one (it is a resource hog), disable any firewire, USB, Midi, Game Port, serial com port, printer port, onboard audio, etc. that you do not use.4. Get a good power supply that is SLI certified by nVidia and NOT an "SLI Ready" power supply -- big difference between "Certified" and "Ready" -- the only power supplies I trust come are SilverStone's 600 Watt and 650 Watt or PC Power & Cooling 510,800,1000 Watt units.5. Get the best memory possible, I like Corsair because they're stable - two 1GB modules for dual channel mode, but again get the best Corsair NOT the "value" series.6. Update your motherboard drivers.7. Don't use RAID on your hard drives, bad idea for FS9.1. In fact, RAID is a bad idea for anything other than serious video editing or Server based processing (i.e. SQL Server, Web Server, backup/redundance requirements). Set the BIOS to NOT use RAID and just stay with standard SATA.Once you have the hardware squared away you will need to get Coolbits for the nVidia drivers to unlock some of the hidden features. I listed the specific setting you need earlier in this thread -- for both the drivers and for FS9.1.But the bottom line is that it does work even in SLI (with only minor issues), you just need to do a little work to make you $1500 worth of video processing power come to life.Rob.
