January 29, 200620 yr I will let you know, downloading nowof course it all depends on your system. usually updates like these help . but if it hurts, beware! you cannot roll back your system and uninstall it unless you have a restore point saved
January 29, 200620 yr okay thanx, I really appreciate it... i was just wondering because i still have dial up and the file is around 46mb
January 29, 200620 yr If your interest is only FS2004 don't bother with the download. The added/changed files are to support newer games only and FS2004 won't use any of the changes.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. January 29, 200620 yr Q1) Will this update effect FSUIPC?Q2) I'm confused, there are two possible downloads from the DirectX site (why the #### doesn't Microsoft just give a simple unambiguous description of the downloads! :-mad )??? There is a 46.2MB file:http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=enand there is a file up to 16.4MBhttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=enIs the smaller file intended for non-developers? January 29, 200620 yr I think so. One developers kit and one smaller for us end users. Have seen that before :). Does it say SDK on the first one?
January 30, 200620 yr Hi allI believe that the small version downloads a small package, then checks your specs, then selects the proper components, then spits out the remaining needed files. The big one is called .._redist so it is a full package for eg backing up on cd for use on an off-line comp.-dasher7
January 31, 200620 yr "Is it worth downloading"... I would say yes! However, you might like to take a look at my post here entitled:Couple More Interesting Findings..........and scroll down to The SECOND finding which relates to this topic. It may be that this was a one off and affected me alone, but you never know.Mike
February 1, 200620 yr Hi Flygirl and welcome! :)"I think that update is just a new SDK for developers, not for us...I don't think that statement is strictly correct.http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx"Get the Latest DirectX HereDirectX (December 2005) improves the graphics, security, and performance of your operating system. Download and install this update for your Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP-based system."http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en"This download provides the DirectX end-user redistributable that developers can include with their product. This update includes the DirectX for Managed Code Update from the DirectX SDK Update (December 2005)."Sorry if this seems a little OTT but I think others should be reassured if they are currently feeling hesitant about downloading this update. As to whether we need it at the moment, well I guess that's another matter entirely ;)Regards,Mike
February 2, 200620 yr I installed the 12-05 update and noticed that it only updated one DirectX file, quartz.dll. All the others are still dated 2004. Any one else have the same results? I'm just wondering if I botched the installation. My system is P4 3.0ghz, msi 865PE mobo, 6800gt, 1 gig ram. I have the latest chipset drivers but am running the 71.89 Nvidia drivers.Ted [email protected] ghz, Noctua C12P CPU air cooler, Asus Z77, 2 x 4gb DDR3 Corsair 2200 mhz cl 9, EVGA 1080ti, Sony 55" 900E TV 3840 x 2160, Windows 7-64, FSX, P3dv3, P3dv4
