Spontaneous reboots

Featured Replies

Since a couple of days my computer reboots when I am in Flightsim. It Always happens quite fast after loading I am usually still at the departure airport. What can it be I have it with different planes at different locations. Besides Flightsim I run RC4, AS6, flightkeeper and Fspassengers. I have tried running without these programs but get the same problem.Wouter

This way, before rebooting a Blue Screen will report the error that caused the hang up.In your case, I think your issue could be related to the videocard. Maybe it reaches too high temps, or maybe the temps in your case are too high. Try opening your case and see if the problem disappears or is significantly delayed. If that's the case, you need to lower the temps in your case and/or downclock you videocard.Marco

I had the same issue which ended up being a bad stick of ram. It only caused my system to reboot when using FS for a bit. Once replaced, it hasn't done it since. I even made sure by placing the old stick back in and after awhile, it did it again. Might be something to look in to. -Dave

Could be tons of things:Make sure all your drivers are up to date (video, sound, motherboard, etc). Could be any number of hardware components failing and/or overheating. Does your PC remain stable if you turn it on and do not start flightsim? Can you play other PC games? (try some free demos if you don't have other games). On my old setup, if I would move the rudder pedals too far I would pull the power plug out of the wall.

I say overheating of CPU or you need to upgrade tour power supply.Bi;; M

I opend my case but this did not solve to problem or even slow it down. Reading all the posts I get the idea it's a hardware problem. Is there any diagnostic software I can download to check the hardware or will it be a case of trial and error replacing all components and seeing witch one is broken?Wouter

First you need to find out when it is rebooting before you start diagnosing. Turn the PC on and leave it alone for an hour. Does it stay on? That will go a long way to at least point you in the right direction. If it is a bad power supply, then it should reboot anytime, games or no games. If it is an overheating problem, it should only reboot when the processor is busy with games (unless you have some major things going on in there).

It only reboots in FS. But I have a friend who's into computer hardware Ill ask him to take a look. Thanks for you help.Wouter

Hi Wouter and Marco,Similar problem here! I have just installed a new 250 GB HDD, Windows XP, FS9 etc. I can start flying but clicking on anything on the Meny bar makes my computer reboot. Following the advice of Marco I uncecked "Automatically Restart". Now I get a blue screen and the message ***STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x00000000, 0xEDD2AB58, 0x00000000)What does that mean? Thanks in advance for any help and advice.Roland

I had this problem twice and both times it was due to defective RAMJohn

No problem - runs nicely.3. No problems with FS9 and Windows XP on my old HDD. Roland

Hi Wouter,"Since a couple of days my computer reboots when I am in Flightsim. It Always happens quite fast after loading".....I often think that if you can run FS9 with all the bells and whistles without system breakdown then you have got a pretty stable setup that will tolerate the peak demands place on it.The fact that this is happening quite quickly and triggers a spontaneous reboot following a full load of the sim suggests to me that the PSU is no longer coping or has developed a fault. My money's on the PSU and would be the first component I'd eliminate as being the cause by substituting with a good quality replacement.Mike

Hi:I've started having the same problem, so I took some temperature readings from my PC with and without FS. I opened the case up and put a pretty good desk fan in front of it, so heating should not be the culprit. Here are the readings (after the fan was placed. I/O voltage is red, not sure why.Without FS:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/140642.jpgWith FS:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/140643.jpgOther info: - The problem tends to be accompanied by graphic corruption (similar to what I'd see with overheating of the graphics card). - The problem is totally random (I can complete flights sometimes, others it'll reboot after about 5-10 minutes). - I tried turning off "automatically restart" and it still rebooted. - After the system finished rebooting, I get redirected to a page that says the problem is an unknown device driver. - I've checked my sound and graphics driver, both are the latest, and the other drivers I have installed are the same I've had up 'til now, and had no problems with.I really need a hand here, I'd love to get flying ASAP. :)Thanks in advance!Daniel P.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpgMember of SJU Photography. Hi Daniel,Your voltages don't appear to be being recorded correctly. Perhaps the MoBo environment monitor is not compatible with the Hardware Sensors Monitor utility.Try downloading and installing SiSoft Sandra 2005 and run the Mainboard Information module.http://download.guru3d.com/sandra/One further thought (probably irrelevant) - Have you been trying your hand at overclocking? Voltages can be critical for successful o/c beyond 10-12% stock speeds.Mike

Hey:Nope, haven't overclocked this machine. Also, as of what I last wrote I tested the RAM, and it appears to be fine. I'll get Sandra and post the page ASAP, thanks for the help.Daniel P.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpgMember of SJU Photography.
