ATI Catalyst 6.2 Problems

Featured Replies

With the newer Catalyst 6.2 drivers installed for my 9800 Pro, I get severe flashing of textures in FS9. This is not just runway bleed through, but all over the screen with spikes in the sky etc. This is a problem both with downloads from the ATI sight, and the Omega download of this version.I went back to the Catalyst 5.12 drivers and do not see this problem.Anybody else had these results? Thanks:RTH

I haven't tried the 6.2's but it's not uncommon for newer drivers to sometimes "break" older cards. I'm still using the 5.6's on my 9800 Pro as there has been nothing added to the new drivers for that card it a long time.

I only see spiking like you're talking about when Adaptive Anti-Aliasing is turned on, and then not that much.I don't believe 5.12 had a switch for Adaptive Anti-Aliasing although you could turn it on in the registry. 6.2 does have a switch. So check to see if you have AAA enabled.Paul

You might find this review I found over at AnandTech (http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2701) regarding the ATI Catalyst drivers interesting. Appears the 5.11's were a little better with FPS all around for "older" video cards than the current drivers.Jim

Thanks everybody:I went back to the 5.11 catalyst drivers as suggested. My imagination does lead me to believe that they are a little better on frame rates and everything looks fine so far. At least the CCC works with this version. With several versions, it has failed for me and unfortunately, the older style control panel is not available with the latest. I went to the Omega downloads for the later versions in order to have options. Thanks again:RTH

I don't think it's your imagination. I have an ATI X800 XT AIO and I too noticed issues with the 6.12 drivers. I went back to 5.11 which I think is the last version of their Control Panel. Not a big fan of their control center.I might even try a version before that like 5.9 as I hear they might work best for any additional shimmer. I have tried so many driver versions now I can't be sure which works best for shimmer.

Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

Interesting observation. I have the same VC and also can't remember which set best suits the sim. Greg above gives a link to ATI Tray Tools which works fine without the need for the rather bloated ATI Control Panel. I download and install only the driver and use Ray Adams' masterpeiece. They work together flawlessly.Jim Karnhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_pf.jpg

HeyI am having the same problem with my XL1800 using the catalyst 6.2 drivers. Shimmering and flickering with all scenery! I will try the 5.12's as you suggested. Glad I found this post

I installed the 5.11 drivers, and now I get a lot of white flashes when lloking out of the aircraft while the textures load.
