Hi,Or you could buy it and set the standard for the rest of us to follow!Or you can wait until the major websites post their findings:http://www.anandtech.com/index.htmlhttp://www.tomshardware.com/http://www.guru3d.com/Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://dot.kelder.net:8080/fseconomy/

Don't expect a huge improvement in FS9, because you won't see most likely any. FS9 does not support dual cores. You will see an improvement in FSX - and that's a handful of months away.

The Conroe (Core 2 Duo) CPU is faster than anyhting else available today. It doesn't matter that FS9 is not dual core supported. Look at the benchmarks. None of those games support dual core either. For a CPU limited app like FS9, I would expect BIG performance gains.

Anand review: http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=2795Quick summary: E6600 (2.6 GHz with 4MB L2 cache) is the perfect product to purchase. With good memory and the best air cooling you can hit 4GHz. It is faster than the fastest AMD at stock speed and quite stable. That's what I'll be shooting for come October.

I am going to order the Core 2 Duo 6600 and Asus P5WDH soon. Of course it is going to be OCed...

Yes, that Core 2 Duo 6600 is certainly the best bang for buck, and if she overclocks well it will sell like hot cakes. Superb performance, low power/heat and good price - very un-Intel! I'm going to build a new rig in FSX debut + a couple of months, and I hope by then AMD has come up with a viable alternative, otherwise I'm jumping back on the Intel ship! The good AMD news out of all this for me is that AMD is rumoured to be slashing their A64 prices in response to Conroe's arrival, so I should be able to upgrade my A64 to one of the faster dual core A64 X2 for peanuts and give it to my son to us as our "slow" FSX rig. :-lol Gary

The price on that E6600 does seem sweet, though I want to wait to see what other chipset options are out there, and if it affects meemory performance at all before deciding on DDR2 sticks.I notice @ 1280x1024 the cpu is much less of a factor. I wonder how that will hold up in FSX?scott s..

Dual-core processors are sometimes slower than their single-core equivalents in games. Look at the 3800+ vs. 3800X2. Sure, there will be some improvement, but probably marginal in FS9. It will be interesting to read the first reviews of FS9 useres.Pat

You are missing the point.....Conroe is already beating the FX62 (also dual core) in any situation, be it dual core optimized or not. There was no single core processor faster than an FX-62 in ANY application, therefore the fact that Conroe is dual core is a moot point. There is no single core processor that can match either the FX62 or the new Conroe, even in single core applications. Comparing an X2 3800+ to a 3800+ is pretty pointless when there is no single core that even comes close to the FX62 and Conroe Extreme.

That's why I am curious how this translates to FS9. A benchamrk of F.E.A.R. or Age Of Empires doesn't mean squat, unless we have someone testing it on FS9 with add-ons, traffic and high level of details.I have upgraded my CPU several times since the release of FS9 (2500 Barton, 3200+ Venice, 3800+ Venice), but have yet to see the 'wow' effect. Of course, everytime my FPS increases a little bit, but the changes were really more marginal to justify the purchase of the latest and greatest.Pat

Talking about overclocking, I read yesterday that 6600 is the best for overclocking. They reached 12sec on 1mb pi calculation! Pushed the chip up to 4.0ghz. Talking about performance, my pi is now 31sec. Meaning really 2x faster. Would potentially mean double performance in fs9, is my opinion. I have good enough cooling for such extreme speeds, so thats not a problem...

Well, reading through all the reviews, it seems like I am in the market for a 6600. $315 for a CPU that is absolutely up to par, if not better performing then AMDs fastest counterpart is good enough for me to switch, even if it requires a new mainboard and RAM. Unless AMD is lowering their prices drastically by the end of the month, I can't see anyone buying AMD anymore. If they do cut their prices (which will probably be happening), then I would expect the FX-62 to be at around the same price range to have people re-thinking wheather to stay with AMD or switch to Intel. Wow, who would have thought that 6 months ago?Pat
