September 15, 200619 yr Does anyone else have issues with nvidia cards? I have an nvida geforce 7900GT and have been experiencing system re-boots. Im using a new pc that i just built last week. I am thinking of returning it and purchasing an ati radeon x1900xt 512mb card instead. Im using the latest drivers. Micrsoft error reporting said I had a serious error and it was caused by the nvidia drivers. They recomended getting the latest driver (which I have) and disabeling hardware acceleration. Should I just go with ATI?
September 15, 200619 yr I have a nVidia 7900GS and have been experiencing some blue screens and lock ups with F.E.A.R. but not FSX. All working ok so far with 91.47 drivers.Microsoft error did report serious system failure etc but as I say with F.E.A.R and not with FSX beta or demo.Lets hope its fixed for you with final release. :-)
September 15, 200619 yr Im still using fs2004. :) Thanks for the reply If I get some more proof it was the card and the card alone I will make that switch.
September 15, 200619 yr Do a google search for '7900GT freeze' or 'lock up'. All will be revealed. I RMA'd mine and installed a 7900GTX instead. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
September 15, 200619 yr I have two Nvidia 7800GTX in my PC they are working flawlessly along with the previous Nvidia cards I have owned. I am currently using the 91.47 drivers. I use my cards in 16AA SLI mode and FS9 is the best I have ever seen it. ( I use Nvidia because of the support of two monitors originally although ATI now has similar support)You didn't say what display card you were using previously but bits of an old driver "lying around" may be causing the problems you are experiencing. It is possible that swapping for an ATI card may have the same results. There are utilities available for both ATI and Nvidia drivers that will clear out old drivers bits. If you were using an on-board graphics chip ensure that you have disabled it in BIOS as well as removing the drivers for it.I know that the problems that you are experiencing can be overwhelming. Mentally stand back for a minute and remember that there are hundreds of thousands of NVidia and ATI cards in the world providing super graphics capabilities for lots of games in a satisfactory manner. The chances of buying a lemon are very small so look to your machine and its setup in the first instance. It is not possible to provide more specific advice with the little info you have provided. Maybe you should post in a more appropriate forum. September 15, 200619 yr I did use driver cleaner and doing a google search revealed many other people with this problem. What do you think of this card to replace it?http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814102025

Why does it have to be the card? There are no ongoing reliability issues with properly-installed Nvdia cards running on properly built and configured systems. The system crash is reported in the card only due to that is where the error was triggered, NOT that the card was the cause. Mostly, card crashes are the fault of a faulty or inadequate power supply, overheating, mis-setting of the BIOS, incorrect installation of motherboard drivers, card drivers, or the card itself on the motherboard. Have you run a full DirectX diagnostic? All modern graphics cards have a requirement for a stable, clean power feed.It is possible the card might be faulty, but until you have eliminated all the other possible candidates, how can you know? As this seems to be a hardware problem, perhaps you could also post in the correct forum, as we have enough trash cluttering up this one with all the FSX Beta whiners and a really excited user and this post will rapidly disappear off the page and into the boondocks. If it is moved to the right place you might have some chance of being helped.Allcott
September 15, 200619 yr Im pretty sure th pc was built fine, there are no other problems everything worked great and still does. The psu meets the requirements, its an antec smart power 2.0 and does not show any signs of failure yet. A google search reveals that many other people have this problem with only the 7900GT which is what I have. And I can get a full price refund for the card.
September 16, 200619 yr Also I just ran a test in 3d mark 03 and the #### thing re-booted during the test.
September 16, 200619 yr The 7900gt card is a known lemon and it's luck of the draw as to if you get one that works or not. Luckily i got one that works and boy does it work because its very fast and i o/c it alot to boot. Do a google search and you will see all the problems with this card. Let's not go off and blame people for building their pc's wrong when the problems with the 7900gt are as well documented as they are. Perhaps the guy that made the snide remark needs to keep more abreast on the happenings in pc hardware. I bought the card the day that it was released and got lucky to get one of neweggs first batches before they sold out. Since then there has been report after report of failed cards, artifacting, reboots, lockups, etc. Return it if you can and replace it with another and another until you get one that works because once you do you'll be happy you did. You could also get a 7900gtx if you want to pay the money as there doesn't seem to be any problems with that card or you could deal with ati's horrible drivers and go the x1900xt route. Good luck.
September 16, 200619 yr Thanks for the reply. I think i will go the ati route, I have always like them and they have been proven to be reliable, at least to me. And to boot it has a nice 512mb's of ram.
September 16, 200619 yr Sorry about your troubles, friend. I have always been fortunate with my nvidia cards, from my first GeForce, the 2 Ultra, to my latest 7900GTX. One thing with my old 4200 was that the only drivers that consistently worked right with it were the ones released with it or immediately before. Any newer drivers than the card and any number of issues could pop up. Not so on any others I've had, though there were a few newer drivers that didn't like my 6600GT. Hopefully your card is fine and you'll find a fix, but if not, I hope you have better luck with your next one. It's more money, but the 7900GTX is a very sweet card.Good luck to ya!-Jeremy Burchhttp://home.earthlink.net/~dawgfighter/sit...es/swvasig1.gifSWVA4806 http://www.virtualswa.com/home.phpThe Ozark Dogfighter http://forums.avsim.net/images/wedge.gifHappy Flying!BOAC: Heathrow Centre, British Airways Speedbird Flight 723HC: British Airways Speedbird Flight 723, Heathrow Centre, go aheadBOAC: Heathrow Centre, British Airways Speedbird Flight 723 has a message for youHC: British Airways Speedbird Flight 723, Heathrow Centre is ready to copy messageBOAC: Heathrow Centre, British Airways Speedbird Flight 723, message is as follows: Mayday, Mayday, Mayday ....
September 16, 200619 yr Thanks for the kind words, I have ordered the x1900xt, should be here on wednesday.
September 16, 200619 yr The 7900 GT uses the same core (G71) as is used in the 7800 GS+, 7900 GS, 7950 GT, 7900 GTX, 7900 GX2, 7950 GX2 and the PlayStation 3, the problems are more than likely due to a bad batch that where used by one or more oems. Rest assured there is nothing wrong with the design of the card (or the core) and you can be confident in knowing that most G71 cards are indeed flawless. Bernard
September 16, 200619 yr My 7900GT has been working great. Sliders max'd and fluid FPS and no blurries. I highly recommend you check your OEM's website for any relevant BIOS updates and read carefully how to update your card. Evga had several video card updates released shortly before I purchased my card. Good luck. Regards, Al Jordan | KCAE
