Yes I do believe that is your problem...You have to have the 2x2 power to the CPU...Notice the one I have circled in this pic...That needs to go to the +12v power in the upper left hand corner of the mb...See 2.40 of your manuelhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/157076.jpgI wouldn't worry about clearing CMOS...This is your problem...Can you please give me the Name or Model of your PSU..I know it's an Entermax 550w...But which model or whatever...

Chuck. it is Enermax EG565P-VE FMA (24P)I Just called ASUS help desk.. and he tells me to remove the MB from the case and connect everything and try it without the Case... to make sure its not shorting or somthing. But I forgot to mentoion to him about this 2x2.MannyDo I need to connect the 2X2 even if my main power has that 24 thingi? I can't seperate out the 4 from that 24. Its connected together. So now, the Q is how do I convert the 2x6 into a 2x2.I called ASUS again.. He says.. that I need that 2x2ATX connected... and when I asked him If I would be able to use a converter of sorts to convert that 4pin molex to a 2x2 he said..no.Then I need to replace the Power unit then. Hmmm...

"Do I need to connect the 2X2 even if my main power has that 24 thingi?"Yes...Check 2-40 of your manuel..."I can't seperate out the 4 from that 24. Its connected together."Correct...That's fine..Leave the 24 EATX set-up alone...Darn....Your gonna need to go to comp-usa or something...You'll need a 6 to 4 converter...Darn....Your sure you don't have one laying around there from the PS box??...I have seen a couple of "Conflicting" photo's of the wiring bundle of your PS...Looks like some pictures have the 20+4 EATX AND the 4pin ATX+12v plug...Then there are some pictures that don't have the second 4pin....They Shoulc Have sent you a 6 to 4 adapter...But if you don't...You don't have it...PC Power&Cooling send's it along with their PSU's...Maybe Entermax doesn't??

Very Good!! Now don't wear yourself out from dancing...You still have allot of work to do... :-jumpy

How's it going Manny? Looking at my ANTEC psu you should have a 24 pin main connector (with an adaptor that can reduce that to 20pins if required) and a 4 pin or even 8 pin 12 volt connector that goes in the top left corner of the MB.In addition, if it is any help, for my MB there is another 4 pin Molex connector that plugs into the MB top right for PCI express power. Also, have you connected yet another 4 pin Molex to the graphics card if it requires it? Once it is powered you should get something, even if it is a series of beeps to tell you what is wrong.

Regards

Thanks Howard.I got it working now. It now needs an OS. I am taking a breather after that little excitement. I even cut myself on that sharp copper fan from the cooler.. So now I can say.. I put blood and sweat into this thing. :(Oh boy!... You have no idea how excited I am now.. Now I feel I can build any PC any config... :P Lessons learned:1. I plugged in the power wire of the cooler fan into MB wrong. and once I turned it over, It was ok.2. The 2x2 12V thingi confused me a little cause the 24 that has an inbuilt 12v power does not invalidate this 2x2 12v. The 2x2 12v is required to power the CPU.. I have now come to learn3. I was little messy with the coolant. Apart from that, I think I did everything clean and methodically after reading and a lots of help from Chuck.Manny

OK.. here is the interesting part.A)If you look at the ASUS P5W DH Motherboard documentation, When you start the PC, you hit , it takes you to Bios, where you say, within IDE Configuration that you want to setup RAID.In the next start of the PC you hit to enter the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Option ROM Utility, where you setup the RAID 0 and the HDD allocation.Thats it you are set.No need for copying SATA RAID driver from the utility disk to floppy disk etc... There was no need for the floppy drive at all for setting SATA RAID. I may end up removing the floppy disk and the intrusive Floppy cable all together.:(Then I installed the VISTA RC1. and it went splendidly. The OS looks clean and neat. Except... I am kind of stuggling with what is where...C)Since I was building the PC from my kitchen breakfast table, cause I have hardwood floors here.. and better place than where my other PCs are. There is carpet there. I didn't have internet connection. I wanted to install and run FSX demo or beta. Well.,.. this ASUS board had wireless Wi Fi something... It even had an antenna. I didn;t really care for this..,,I already had a router and wireless setup at home. But then while reading the manual I realized I could set this up in what is known as "Ad-hoc" mode and become a client. WOW... Its able to get better signal than even my thinkpad Laptop. I am now internet wireless connected. Cool. This ASUS motherboard cost around $270. Well..this wireless modem is probly worth $50 right there.Manny

Manny..That is Awesome...Your a GURU!! :7 I really think that may be one of the Nicest Motherboards I've ever seen...Just browsing through the manuel was darn impressive...I would have allot of learning to do myself!! I had mentioned that setting up Raid was no biggie..I had no idea that it was going to be THAT easy..he heAre you now set up in a Raid0 configuration with your 2 Caviers?? If so would you mind getting some info with HD Tach...I'd like to see how the Caviers in Raid compare to the benchmarks from that other thread...If/When you get a chance...No Biggie...Have some fun first!!http://www.simplisoftware.com/Public/index...?request=HdTachSo tomorrow..I may have to start asking you questions...Have Some Fun!!

What is HD Tach Chuck? Sure will do. No problem..whatever that is. :)As of now, I am installing Vista all over again. This what happened.I installed Vista and wireless hi fi. then I installed FSX Demo and flew around for a bit. Then I copied over the FSX Beta from my other computer over. and then just prior to running the FSX Beta, I was wondering that I was useing the nivdea card without the nvidea driver. But it looked pretty good... It was not like the crappy default xp standard video driver.. this was almost as good as nvidea driver.. I didn't even realize I didn't have the nivdea driver for 2 hours. So I went to nvidea site and downloaded their driver for Vista. But when I installed it, it looked like it did and the when I rebooted, I couldn't see any of the usual nvidea icon where I could set AA and all those other goodies.. so I reinstalled it again..and this time when it asked me if I wanted to reboot I said no... and I still couldn't see any of the nivedia settings. But I got a pop up saying that this OS is not Vista and so the nvidia driver was not installed.OK.. So I went and downloded the XP version of the nvidia driver and I installed that. It also gave me a pop up but it saud that this new s/w is not a Vista version but gave me an option to install anyway. (By this time I had installed all the other s/w like Wi-fi etc this way, XP version but it would let me try to install in Vista RC1) and on rebooting.. I still couldn't see the nvidia icon anywhere for me to go set any stuff... so I said, screw it... and tried to enjoy fsx...but this time I couldn't load FSX beta nor the demo . I was getting the blue screen of death. And I could recover. I tried the restore fuction within Vista...but I couldn't run FSX.I hope..it was the driver and not my memory card. :(So... I am reinstalling it again. :)Manny

Haaaa...See...It really never hurts to play around a bit before you actually Settle in on how your instillation should be...I try my best to not "Activate" WindowsXP right off the bat for this exact reason...I like to get it up and running...Make sure everything is to my liking ect...Then Activate..Once I'm Happy...That's one thing that bugs me about Windows latest round of "Genuine Advantage" Garbage...Before you can patch up their crappy operating system..They force you into Activating it right off the bat...That Stinks!! Hey..Look...I like to tinker and tweek...I goof stuff up...Give me a chance to settle in before you make me activate...OR...You force me me to run around the internet with all of the Security Holes YOU left in your operating system?? I use to have 30 days before I had to activate...Within that time..I may have formated a couple of times on a new build...Then once I've got it dialed in...I'll Activate...I now have to call and talk to somebody to activate my XP's...I can tell they don't like me..he he...So far they have given me activation codes...One day they may not?? What's a tinkerer to do?? Stop tinkering?? Oh Well...Hey...You are installing all the chipset drivers and stuff like that arn't you?? AND..As you figured out...the video drivers..Since your using Vista RC1...Your probably going to have to track down compatable drivers...I would guess even the drivers on the mb CD are out dated and not compatable with Vista??If you go to (XP Path..Don't know Vista Yet)..Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager...Double check that none of those components have a yellow question mark beside them...If so...Drivers are missing or not installed correctly for that device...With XP you'll normally get a "Found New Hardware" message as windows starts up...If that persists..It's is a good indication that drivers are missing...My Normal Routine on a fresh install is:1) Disable any chance of internet connection to new machine...2) Install the OS..Reboot3) Disable Automatic Updates and Windows Firewall...Reboot4) Install the MB Chipset drivers..Reboot5) Install any LAN drivers ect...Reboot6) Install the Soundcard Drivers...Reboot7) Install the Videocard drivers...Reboot8) Install my AntiVirus Software..Reboot9) Install Mozilla FireFox as my web browser...10) Enable Automatic Updates and Windows Firewall...Reboot11) Establish Internet Connection...12) Immediatly Update AV13) Immediatly go to Window's Update to start Patching the Holes..Then any other software, Spyware stuff, ect... Hope that makes some sense??Have Fun!!

Wow..Never had that happen...Go get the WD Data Life Guard Tools...There are a set of software which will do lots of functions including inspecting your disks...I have never used these WD Data Life Guard....I have used the Maxtor version on one of their drives in the past...http://support.wdc.com/download/You can go delete your Raid array...Then maybe unplug one drive at a time..So you can diagnose each one individually...Hope this Helps...
