September 29, 200619 yr Author WOW!.I ran Aquamark 3 on my FS9 Box. The Dell XPS Gen2 with nVidia FX-5900 Ultra video card. Dell 24" Widescreen And I get Aquamark triscore of: 18,014 and Avg FPS 18.Compared to the new Box Core 2 Duo and nVidia 7600 XT video card. 19" CRTAquamark tri score of: 103,025 and FPS 103. Don't know if the resolution of 1024 x 768 x 32 on the LCD had anything to do with the poor performance.Cool tool.MannyPS The only thing is.. FSX Beta still runs at around 15-20FPS. :(------------------------------------------------------------New PC for FSX: ASUS Core 2 Duo 2.4G (OCed to 3.3G), nVidia 7600 GT 256MBAquamark tri score of: 103,025 and FPS 103. http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/157332.jpg------------------------------------------------------------My FS9 PC: DELL XPS Gen 2. September 29, 200619 yr Interesting Manny.I am trying to judge the value of overclocking my system. Some games seem to improve more than others and I rear that FSX will be one of the others. For me, squeezing out two or three more FPS while significantly raising the temperature of the system is probably not worthwhile. Maybe 5-10FPS is.Is your system being held back by you graphics card? Please keep us updated on your progress. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
September 29, 200619 yr Author Hi Howard.I am not so worried about my Graphics card. Its a $150 a segway for the DX10. The 7600 XT 256MB is better than my more solidly built FX5900 Ultra 256MB. But its still not the best but it would be OK for now.FSX uses almost all the CPU Cycles you can throw at it.. Yesterday for the first time.. I saw the curly wave in the CPU Usage History at the top meaning, Its got some spare cpu cycle left... but barely. Usually its a flat time on top..Meaning, its consuming everytyhing. Thats how I read it.As far as the temp goes.. My CPU Temp is fine. At Idle its only at 37deg C. When I run the Prime 95 (Two threads for the dual core), it goes top 47deg C. Even that is fine I think. I have a good cooler for the CPU.My MB seem to be hot at 47deg C..but its not varying too much if I Over clock. I called ASUS and they said.. not to worry about it unless its gets to 55-60. They told me to see if I can change the fan to to suck in more out from the outside. They reminded me its got a 3 yr warrantly.. All I would have to do is send it back to them.MannyPS: Howard, you may want to read up on this.http://www.legionhardware.com/document.php?id=570&p=0He has givin you a step by step process of how to over clock your CPU E6700Except the MB is different. September 29, 200619 yr Manny..Nize Aquamark score!! Please post your 3Dmark05 score too when you get it...And can you do me a favor...Run that HD Tach tool on your Caviers in Raid0...And post this information...Please...Burst speed..... Mb/secRandom access..... msCPU utilization..... %Average read....... Mb/secShould look something like this:Here are my numbers of my Raptor150's in a Raid0 Array:Burst speed.....230.9 Mb/secRandom access.....8.3 msCPU utilization.....10%Average read.......120.0 Mb/secNow Sharing those "Benchmarks" using Aquamark3 and 3Dmark05 is great...We all get a feel for what a perticular system will do...So if a guys interested in a new set-up...That offers a non bias assesment of a systems performance...Those type's of tools are often used when Tech outfits review a group of videocards, processors or what ever...There are several other programs like that too...These two just happen to be my personal favorites...What I Really find those programs useful for is tweeking my own systems...For instance...Your Overclocking endevour is a perfect example...If you get a couple of benches to start with...Then apply your tweeks...Run the benches again...You'll be able to keep tabs on your progress...Now since were all Flightsimmers here...You hear about FPS...Your a part of another thread where several valid points are being discussed reguarding the accuracy or reliability of FPS..I feel there are waayyyyy, waayyyyy, waayyyyy to many variables to use Flightsims FPS as a measure of a systems performance...(My Opinion...That's another Thread)...My point is..These benchmarking programs offer a level playing field...Like I say...A non bias benchmark...You can rely on these...I can compare my computers performance to yours with this...(Your's runs better than mine BTW..he he)... I would love if you posted those benches in the benchmark thread around here somewhere...Thanks..Have Fun!!
September 29, 200619 yr Author "non bias benchmark...You can rely on these...I can compare my computers performance to yours with this...(Your's runs better than mine BTW..he he)..."ha ha.... :) :) :(I love that. :)About the RAID 0 bench mark. I just took out that HD and shipped it today..Hopefully, I'll get my replacement for next weekend.I can post those Aquamark results in the page that you want me to. I'll look for it.As far as the 3DMark5. I downloaded the 1.00 version then I applied the 1.1 update.. then I applied the 1,2 update and ran it. (for some reason the 1.2 version file just wouldn't extract the install. It ran some games and the FPS are in the 15s and 18s and what not.. then it ran the same games again... but this time it was stuttering.. I did not get proper scores in that s/w don't what I am doing. I'll try to run it again later. My OC..the MB temo is hovering around 49C deg and sometime going up to 51C degrees. I need a way to cool that sucker. I currently have 4 fans.. two for air inflow (in the front) and two air outflow (1 back and 1 top). They are all 80mm stock fans. The ASUS rep told me that I should convert one of the 2 outflow fans into an inflow fan. Meaning 3 inflow and 1 outflow. He asked me if there was a way I could install a 120mm fan in it. You know the Lian Li. I don't believe I can. Otherwise.. I am so happy with my build and my OC. I bought a Antec 80mm fan that I wanted to put in the back. But I didn;t know how to remove the Liam Li back fan so I left it. Not even sure if the Antec 80mm would be better than the Liam Li stock fan.MannyManny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
September 30, 200619 yr Manny,>My OC..the MB temo is hovering around 49C deg and sometime>going up to 51C degrees. I need a way to cool that sucker. You are chasing a red herring. Let's look at this logically:If your motherboard, the "oven" in which your CPU lives, was truly running at 49C then your CPU, which generates heat of its own and is plugged into said "oven", MUST be running at a higher temperature than that. Your CPU temp is within normal range, so your motherboard temp MUST be bogus.Putting in extra fans may reduce this bogus temperature, but since it is bogus in the first place, it doesn't really matter. The only other thing that I can think of is that the motherboard temperature being read is not case temperature but is actually something like the temp of the northbridge chipset. If that's the case, 49C is actually quite a reasonable temp for this area of your motherboard and is nothing to worry about.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
September 30, 200619 yr Your CPU temp is within normal range, so your motherboard temp MUST be bogus.Yeah, Manny, after looking at this closer I wouldn't be surprised if the BIOS is giving incorrect MB temp readings. ASUS BIOS's have been known to do this sort of thing (alot). As I wrote last night, just watch that it doesn't vary by more than a couple of degrees. Otherwise, all you can do is wait for a new BIOS.Greg
September 30, 200619 yr Wow Manny:Excellent results! My apologies, I guess it is the 3DMark05 that allows comparisons. However, you can still make a few comparisons if you go to the "benchmark" thread....I think some of those systems are similar to yours.Sure you know this, but I always pick up a few FPS by going to Task Manager after starting FS and set priority to high. Also kill off a few of those un-needed background processes.
September 30, 200619 yr The fan died on my graphics card once. I took the side panel off of the case and had a $10 Walmart Desktop fan blowing into the case. Worked great.
September 30, 200619 yr Author Gary, Greg.OK.. for now, I am going to ignore it. I'll worry about it if it goes beyond 55C. :)Gary, Reading the user comments at newegg, many feel the sensor is near the south bridge. So you are probably right about that.Thx.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

September 30, 200619 yr MannySorry to go on about the graphic card and I understand your reason for getting it. I started off with a 7900GT as a sensible card but had a few problems. The point I am making is that I think it is causing quite a bottleneck in your case. 3d mark 06 for me is 6100 on standard settings (1280x1024 no AA) and this seems typical or even a little low for my system.Out of interest, on 3840x1024 3d mark 06 is around 2000 but the difference in settings seems to have no significant difference on FSX. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
September 30, 200619 yr Author Howard,Hmmm... I think I am beginning to understand what you mean. The 3dMark is about graphics card...right? And yes.. I saw people who have much smaller cpu speed, but had better video cards 7950XTS etc scored so high. And yes..the Video card is probably a bottleneck. Yup... Maybe...thats why there is not that much improvement to FSX in my case.MannyOK.. I ran the 3dMArk 6.My 3DMark Score 3039.
