September 30, 200619 yr Commercial Member Fellow users can you share some of your settings please...I have been having sots of fun, which has put flight simming on a totally new immersion level. I am just checking to see if there are any tips that more experienced users have found out and applied. Thanks Kroswynd!!! I am just checking to see>if there are any tips that more experienced users have found>out and applied.>>Thanks >>Kroswynd!!!After much fooling around, I finally stuck with a file called 'Optimized Flight', which I believe I got off the Natural Point web site. Here is the page:http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/04-com...y-profiles.htmlFor me, it took a while to get used to using the TrackIR, but I found that it was a matter of getting rid of some 'bad habits' like being able to move my head around whenever I wanted ;)At first, I was creating fairly large 'dead zones', but I found after a while that wasn't a very 'fluid' way of using this incredible 'tool'.I'm learning to keep my head more still, and allowing only small movement instead of 'regular' head movement as I first did.I also find I use the 'precision command' more often than not, and will use the 'still' command when necessary, but that has been decreasing with time.As I also use the voice recognition program, 'Flight Assistant', I have found a way of applying those two commands, in addition to 'center', via speaking them into my microphone instead of having to 'hit keys' while flying. It took a while to figure that out so it did not cause other problems, but it was worth it.Have fun.
September 30, 200619 yr HelloI also use flight assistant, great piece of softwareI use it with radar contact as well as TrackIR
September 30, 200619 yr >Hello>I also use flight assistant, great piece of software>I use it with radar contact as well as TrackIROk, I've been considering picking up one of these units, but I have a couple questions for you owners....1) I assume you do most of your flying with the virtual cockpit, right?2) do you have any sort of control panels (like a real radio/AP panel)?3) if the answer to #1 and #2 is yes, then do you find that the whole virtual cockpit + panel arrangement is kinda reduntant / defeats the immersion?I ask because currently I'm doing mainly Virtual Cockpit flying (using the hat switch to scroll around) ,but I'm considering building a very limited control panel. While I think the track IR is a great idea, you're still going to be stuck using a mouse to change settings on controls and such. Maybe if it was linked to some sort of data glove or something where you could use your hand to "reach out and grab controls to change them" then I could see it more. I actually experimented a bit with this using a P5 Glove (really low end consumer thing) to control the mouse and assigned different finger movements to do the click of the mouse actions. The problem I found was that as I moved my hand back down to the Yoke, the mouse would track it and as soon as I bent my fingers around the handle it would do a mouse click on whatever the pointer was pointing at.... Not ideal...Just looking for input on how you guys go about using your track IR and do you ever find yourself wishing for a full head tracking VR headset while using it?--2002cbr600f4i
October 1, 200619 yr Author Commercial Member Guys, I really appreciate your assistance. I intentionally placed this in the discussion forum because I was hoping for more views and possibly more responses being in the discussion forum. Not many simmers may pay attention to this post being in the Hardware section.Anyway, for the fellow simmers that responded. October 1, 200619 yr I was going to say tall that you have said............And TrackIR is a lot cheaper than building a cockpit that only gives you the facilities to fly the same aircraft all the time.TrackIR-4 gives you the immersion to feel there with ALL aircraft. The profile you refer to (The same one I am using too) is the one submitted by 'Bojota', the guy that made those great video's available to us all.http://www.simradar.com/Feature/4015/VATSI...evel_D_767.htmlOn the Natural Point website where I posted the url for those video's, has actually sold more of them to people that hadn't previously considered buying it.'Jeff Greth's' great video's of 'Vancouver+' on the www.fsaddon.com website was all the convincing I needed and Jeff is still using the the TrackIR 3 with vector support.I said it before, this is the best bit of hardware ever for flight simulator, I won't fly anymore without it.
