November 3, 200619 yr :( I just picked up my new system about an hour ago. I have not installed fs9 or fsx yet but will very soon. I will let you know of the results over the weekend. It took 3 months to build this system but I think the wait was well worth it. It took 6 min to install windows XP home on the new system.here's the specs:Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 2.93GHz / 4MB Cache / 1066MHz FSB / Dual-Core / Socket 775 / Processor with Fan Asus P5N32-SLI SE Deluxe - Gaming NVIDIA Socket 775 ATX Motherboard / Audio / PCI Express / Dual Gigabit LAN / S/PDIF / USB 2.0 / Serial ATA / RAIDCorsair XMS2 TWIN2X2048-8500C5 2GB 2X1GB PC8500 DDR2-1066 CL 5-5-5-15 240PIN Dual Channel MemoryThermaltake Black Armor Full-Tower ATX Case with 11 External Drive Bays, Clear Side, Front USB, Firewire and Audio PortsBFG GeForce 7950 GX2 Dual GPU Video Card 1GB GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDCP HDTV OutWestern Digital Raptor X 150GB 10000RPM NCQ SATA Hard Drive Windowed Top x2 in raid 0Thermaltake / ToughPower / 750-Watt / ATX / 140mm Fan / SATA Ready / SLI Ready / PFC/EPS / PowerCreative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum PCI Sound CardZalman FATAL1TY FS-V7 Copper VGA Cooler 80MM Fan 2050-3500RPM 23.7-36DBA W/ Red LED
November 3, 200619 yr Your results will be a help to many. I want to order a top iof the line system too. I need toknow what performance you get with the dual-core extreme. Report specific frame rates to us. Settings, plane used. I find the the most rigerous test is say flying at a Chicago skyline at 2000' with all the buildings in view. Let us know. Paul Gugliotta
November 4, 200619 yr Okay, I will. I just installed fs9 in 6min. I think it took longer to change the cd's than anything. I'm gonna start installing addon stuffokay with default starting in the 172 taking off out of KJFK, with every slider maxed, I get around 45fps.
November 4, 200619 yr This is the system I getting ready to buy. I would be really interested to know some more FPS figures from the various missions with all sliders maxed. Also, the mother board I am thinking of getting is:http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo...roductID=459994...is that the same mobo that you have? I ask because I am wondering about the motherboard not stating that it can support 8500(1066) memory which I would prefer over 6400(800) memory. Thanks
November 4, 200619 yr mine is the P5N32-SLI Deluxe Gaming. Not sure if that's the same. I know my supports the 8500 and recommends the corsair ram with the asus motherboard.
November 4, 200619 yr Forget FS9, I get 40-45 fps with a 172 too with my Dell 3.06 GHz. We need FSX info, that's where your puppy will shine (we hope). Paul Gugliotta
November 5, 200619 yr Hey guys,Kittie's better half here with an update. I went to Staples today and bought the Deluxe version of FS-X. It took 13 mins and 27 seconds to install the two DVD's. (Compare that to less than 6 minutes to install WinXP).As for frame rates...I loaded up the default Cessna on rwy 33 at CYYZ in fair weather with all sliders maxed and it brought this system to it's knees. We were down to between 5 and 8 FPS. I found that by setting it back to it's default settings (which was still pretty high) our frames locked and stayed at 25 FPS. I have to admit, I have not tried any of the tweaks that are available. We've spent the bulk of today flying around some of our favourite airports checking out the scenery. As for max numbers...it generally hovers anywhere between 35 and 45 FPS if I unlock it. I have yet to try all the aircraft, but I can run some specific tests (specific aircraft at a certain airport in specific weather) for anyone interested. Just give me the details. Now, we are off to enjoy FSX and try out the shared cockpit feature over the LAN!Weaz
November 5, 200619 yr The true test is to fly towards a city at 2500' and 200 kts. Take off from Chicago Midway KMDW and head for the Chicago skyline. Try that with a 737 at 2500' and when all the buildings are closely in view, report the FSP's you get.I noticed the FPS are greatly dependent on what is outside the cockpit window. Sky you get max FPS, water the same, dense buildings you SLOW down. The 5-8FPS are disappointing, though I got 0.5 FSP! when I maxed out my 3.06 GHz. At 0.5FPS time went backwards. Was I at Warp 1 Scotty?Let us know. Paul Gugliotta
November 5, 200619 yr okay with no tweaking yet, I took off and turned towards the city builds, I had 8fps on take off and down to 7fps at the city. When I went to full screen mode as opposed to window, I jumped to 12fps. But looking out at the city buildings it would drop to 7fps.Screen is 1600x1200 (32bit).FSX needs some tweaking. I'm happy with the looks.
November 5, 200619 yr If it is any help you should be able to to get around 12fps with all settings maxed over the big cities with tweaking of the config and no texture changes. Here my config:BLOOM_EFFECTS=0SKINNED_ANIMATIONS=1TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=300UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=0WideViewAspect=TrueSHADER_CACHE_PRIMED=1TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=1024NUM_LIGHTS=8AIRCRAFT_SHADOWS=0AIRCRAFT_REFLECTIONS=1COCKPIT_HIGH_LOD=1LANDING_LIGHTS=1AC_SELF_SHADOW=1EFFECTS_QUALITY=2GROUND_SHADOWS=1TEXTURE_QUALITY=3IMAGE_QUALITY=0See_Self=1Text_Scroll=1LOD_RADIUS=4.500000MESH_COMPLEXITY=99MESH_RESOLUTION=25TEXTURE_RESOLUTION=29AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5DETAIL_TEXTURE=1WATER_EFFECTS=4TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=1500TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=1500Note that the default calulated for you machine will be too low because it looks at the clock speed and knows nothing about the architecture of the processor. In fact you will probably do better at that resolution, especially if you overclock. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
November 5, 200619 yr Howard,Thanks for the tweaks. We matched our settings to yours (minus the wideview one since we don't have the matrox yet). We took off out of MDW, headed for the downtown buildings, and never dipped below 13 FPS.Weaz
November 5, 200619 yr Thanks, but that is disappointing. Forget when I add the LD757 or the PDMG 747 or 737, We'll be at single digits FPS.Paul Paul Gugliotta
November 5, 200619 yr okay after some tweaking and moving fsx over to the second cpu and everything else on the first cpu. It's a big difference. Now at KMDW, on the runway I was around 12-15fpm and flying depending on the view I would go to 20fps. It did dip to 9fps once, but still really smooth looking.Hope this helps.
November 5, 200619 yr Those frame rates are very disappointing especially when I add 3rd part jets on. I was hoping with a system like that, you'll get 50 fps. That same system on Dell costs $5,000. I guess it pays to build your own. Paul Gugliotta
