November 10, 200619 yr Commercial Member Just curious... Why would a dual core cpu like the new Intel Core duo's run so much better with FSX than my Intel P4? Isn't it using only one of the cores while the other is sittig idle in FSX? Example, I have a P4 3.4 yet from reading threads a slower (say 2.66 dual core) will run circles around my P4. Is it the cache?thxClutchProject 9 Dragons Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!) November 10, 200619 yr The C2D is a far more optimised CPU design than the ole P4. It does more per clock cycle, simple as that.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
November 10, 200619 yr The Core 2 Duo is a brand new archtecture that runs rings around the old Intel P4 or Pentium D design.Despite the slower clock speed, more work gets done per cycle as Gary stated.Don't forget, the two cores each run at the stated speed, not shared. When (if) FSX ever gets a dual core patch, things should really get better.FYI, my E6400 stock speed is 2.13ghzAt my small overclock to 2.66ghz, I easily beat an AMD FX-62 in all the benchamrks I have tried. November 11, 200619 yr There is one more thing to note related to dual cores.FSX is not the only process running.Even if FSX is utilizing only one core, there are other operating system services and application that can run on the other core if needed. Also addons like active sky can be set to run on the other core if so desired. So even if FSX is not optimized for dual cores there are still a lot of things that the "other" core can do.Hope this helps,Cristi
November 11, 200619 yr plus the C2Ds can use the cache from both cores when running one core.so in my E6600 case, 4MB of cacheMark.
