December 28, 200619 yr I'm thinking about getting a new pc to blitz fsx frame rates (is it possible?!).Here's what I have in mind.Quad core QX67004gb 800mhz corsair ram700w power74gb 10000rpm hard drive (secondry)768mb geforce 8800gtx graphicsSoundblaster x-fi musicVista. Will this be good enough? Has anybody got a similer system?Lastly. What monitor should I go for, 19/20" standard or widescreen? Thanks for any help that comes my my.
December 28, 200619 yr Quad core QX6700 is no better than a Dual core CPU for FSX. You may want to take that money and get a bigger hard disk a 150Gig 10000 RPM. or better still 2 of them in RAID 0.What motherboard?as far as blitizing FSX...well... Dream on. :)Unless ACES (MS software team) comes back with an update.... it doesn't matter. you will barely be able to use FSX with about 20FPS for the most part.Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
December 29, 200619 yr Do you or anybody know if a patch(maybe vista or dx10) will be available to run fsx with quad core cpu's or is it designed for dual core? I assume future titles will be designed for quad core.As for MB choice. Asus P5W DH Deluxe 975X.My main HDD will be 500gb 7200rpm. I'll run a raptor drive for games.
December 29, 200619 yr If that setup doesn't play FSX fluidly, nothing will. I guess the only simple thing you can do to improve on even that list of parts is to add another 8800gtx for SLI and a triplehead2go setup at 3840x1024 to take advantage of the SLI. I am extremely interested in seeing how your proposed setup would manage FSX maxed out. Good luck and please post any results if you decide to go through on it. With a little tweaking and a fast machine, you can get FSX to perform well. The only thing that I seen that can really hurt performance on my system is Heavy Clouds (ASV6) at dense city areas like New York. That can drop you to 12-13 FPS With out the clouds, frames are in the 20's at these areas, and much higher elsewhere!!! With no traffic, frames are good no matter what!! http://forums.avsim.net/dcboard.php?az=sho...49553&mode=full Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
December 30, 200619 yr The quad-core cpu's that we will see, are going to be faster than any cpu out there today.Even operating on one core, which is largely what they will do with FS, they will be faster. The same can be said of a Core2Duo cpu vs. a single core cpu. Take, for example, a Core2Duo vs. a single-core Pentium 4. Even though FS is mostly using only one core, with the Core2Duo, that one core is quite a bit faster than a single core Pentium. That's why, even though FS doesn't use multi-cores very well, you are still better off with the latest cpu architectures, which is Core2Duo, and I presume this new quad-core fits that mould, also.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2530 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2 GB Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8, WD 250 gig 7200 rpm SATA2, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
December 30, 200619 yr Do you think I'd be better off with a E6700 and two 8800gtx cards or a QX6700 with one 8800 gtx?

December 30, 200619 yr If you have games that will benefit from SLI, get two of 8800GTX's and enjoy. As already mentioned, FSX won't benefit much from it, if at all.Likewise, if you do a lot of multitasking, the quad-core would make sense. If your sole purpose in building this machine is for FSX, stick with the E6700. It's cheaper and the money you save can be applied to the 10K RPM 150G Western Digital Raptors setup in a RAID array.Jim Karn
