New Processor

Hello, Anyone own an Intel Core 2 Extreme x6800 conroe? If so what do you think... I have never once in my life owned a top of the line processor and I am now thinking about owning one for once. Should I go dual core or quad? Thanks, JoshP.S. I have noticed the ole Athlon 64FX-62 go down in price quite a bit that is dual core isn't it? And it is still a pretty descent processor you think? LOL Ok you got me I am trying to plan ahead a bit for FSX

You should go for an Intel C2D CPU with suitably matched components, but unless you have a money tree, beware ... The E6800 Conroe is the top of the line from Intel dual core just now and they charge top price for it, even the next step down for C2D dual core and the E6700 is still pricey, my feeling is the E6600 offers the best bang for buck, and on decent ram and motherboard will overclock safely, very well to E6800 performance levels and higher.I don't think the new expensive Intel *quad core E6700* chip will have any benefit in FSX (or FS9) just now.As far as FSX goes, its dubious if dual core makes much difference, even more so with quad core, leave that until FS11 :) But the Intel C2D's are still the way to go just now because of the grunt they have.If you say what your budget is, then i and many others might be able to list parts that build into a system you will be very happy with. You want a stable balanced system of parts, either from home built or more expensive manufacturer systems.

Thanks, Well I am not sure what to do... I am gonna be spending the money in the next day or two.. I wonder how an AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 will treat me with about 4 gigs of 800mhz ram? Thanks, JoshThe reason I say that is I noticed they dropped price quite a bit.

> I wonder how an AMD Athlon 64 FX-62 will treat me>with about 4 gigs of 800mhz ram?Not nearly as well as even a mid-range C2D (E6600) and it will cost you more too. Intel has the price / performance crown right now, so if I were you I wouldn't swim against the tide.Gary

Howdy, Rgr on the last... I think I am setting my sights on a Core 2 Duo E6700. Been running AMD awhile but think I am gonna make the switch. Next question what would be a good motherboard for that processor which would allow me enough room to upgrade still yet to maybe a quad duo in the future if they make a motherboard that will house this chip still yet for that kind of room to grow. Thanks, Josh

Yeah E6600 or E6700 is good. What Motherboard are you going to get? You may want to get a good Overclockable Motherboard. (Even if you don;t intent to OC anytime soon). You could OC it whenever at a later time if and when you are comfortable. The OCed speed could be faster than the X6800.Manny

I'm an AMD Dude too...But as stated by everyone above...C2D's are outperforming anything they have to offer right now..."Barcelona"...I'm watching that AMD technology...Should be some new AMD architecture based on the 65nm technology...Barcelona is the code name for the Quad Core/Server oriented processors...Not sure what the Desktop/Gaming versions of those processors will be called?? I think were talking mid-year before we'll see anything of these guys anyhow...The E6700 should be a nice choice...Good Luck with your upgrade!!Have Fun...

My dad has an fx-62 system and i have an e6600 system and default speed to default speed i get about 6 fps more than he does. We wont even mention overclocking ability since he could only get about 10% on his and i got 25% on mine. I get 30fps in every major city that i have tested except for new york and tokyo. Tokyo i swear requires a cray to get anything better than 12fps. The e6600 is also $300 compared to the $650 of the fx-62. Do yourself a favor and get the e6600.

Fellow Simmers, Any suggestions on a good motherboard for Intel C2D E6700? Thanks, Josh

Does anyone know if my computer will handle FSX ?I have anIntel Pentium Dual Core 64Bit Processor 6.8Ghz (3.4Ghz x 2)1GB Ram (next week hope to have 2GB)Nvidia 6600 GT AGP240 GB hard drive

Looks good to me.2 GB is a must.the nVidia 6600 graphics card might be a little slow, but it should be fine. How much memory is on it?Why do you ask? Do you have money to burn? If so, a 8800 GTS or GTX would be your best bet for an upgrade.I just built for somebody else aE6600DFI Infinity 975X2GB Kingston 800 MHz memory (2.0V, 4,4,4,12) (seems to work great)XFX 8800 GTS 640 MBZalman 9700 CoolerWD Raptor 150GB 10,000 rpm disk650W Antec TP3-650And without overclocking get very decent performance. With basically 0 time spent on optimization before I delivered the machine it got ~30 fps, ~18 - 22 fps in NYC with most sliders to the right (100% air traffic, 60% ground traffic, high autogen and scenery, 1x high water, no bloom, 80% cloud cover setting but fair weather blue skies). From everything I have read the 8800 gets significantly better performance than a dual ATI crossfire or dual 7950 GTX setup. When picking a monitor, I highly recommend a minimum vertical resolution of 1024. I picked up a Sceptre 20.1" X20WG at 1680 x 1050, and it looks great. Make sure to get a good quality DVI cable (I didn't try it using the VGA analog adapters).Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180

http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Shoppi...asp?submit=view Fellow Simmers, Hello I am hoping to go with this setup for an upgrade in the next week. Will be eating Ramen Noodles for the next 6 months but hey ;). Any Veteran Input will be greatly appreciated. Oh I have been hearing this system I am looking into is great for overclocking. I am posting a link here from newegg of all the stuff I am planning on purchasing. If any of this stuff will hinder a overclock or modding in the future please advise. P.S. This is a awful alot of money for me and I wanna try to get the best bang for my buck Thank You Kindly, Josh

Aaron : Intel Pentium Dual Core 64Bit Processor 6.8GhzYou'll want to amend that thought. :) Unfortunately for us, you can't really consider a dual core processor to be GhZ x2 in speed. Sadly, it just doesn't work like that. Josh : The link provided for your shopping cart is only valid for you - for all of us, we get a "Shopping Cart Empty" page. You'll have to spec out your planned purchase by hand! :(

I am very happy with the computer I built with a DFI Infinity 975 board, and it's only $154 at NewEgg right now.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813136168Anyone have any notes on why a $300 nVidia board is worth twice the money over an Intel 975 based board?Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)N15802 KASH '73 Piper Cherokee Challenger 180
