September 17, 200718 yr How many cards out there only give you one single output? My six year old one mid-market, has 2! (200Eur at the time)Still just posted something that may clarify you about my position towards Matrox DH2Go/TH2Go...These products only emulate a virtual Big display, and the DualHead solution is just pointless at this point in time... notice that it was also released after the TripleHead.Matrox, matrox... and I am a big fan of them... I perfectly remember my previous Mystique outputing FS in all its glory :)regardspedro
September 17, 200718 yr DualHead solution is just pointless at this point in time...OK..you've obviously made your mind up about this...However suppose someone has 2 Widescreen monitors and a 3rd monitor. They want to stretch their outside view onto the 2 widescreens and use their 3rd monitor as an instrument panel and they have a single graphics card with 2 outputs. The Matrox DH2Go would be perfect...it supports 2x Widescreenhttp://hometown.aol.co.uk/JimCooper1/monitors-3.JPGRegardsJimPS: positively my last post in this thread...feel free to rubbish the DH2Go as much as you like..I still believe it has it uses!
September 17, 200718 yr Just want to make clear also that the point in responding to this post wasn't to bash Matrox.Poster is about to build a FS set. I think this info should be more than useful to him.All products are perfect if they satisfy your rational needs. This one turns up to be pretty redundant with ATI/Nvidia span modes, which indeed exist and are working... and are just software enabled. The hardware is already there!still... I am waiting for someone to test the dual DVI ouput thing...I know I will be buying that before the matrox thingy and test if it goes... if i have this in advance from both ATI and Nvidia I'll take the better option for sure.A lot of possibilities come out if it turns out to come possible to reach my wanted resolution (as should be theoretically possible). Just imagine having a dual chip card with four outputs driving you all the setup...http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/01/gecubes...four-dvi-ports/and make it 2 of them even!!!forget about matrox!no man... just giving my humble opinion.regardspedro
September 17, 200718 yr Good point you made!you rational need in effect.I can't say how you fragment the different options you have with this objective in mind...I am sure there are more uses for it still. But moneywise you would be spending the same amount for another card. which has much more juice in it then some complex display emulator. If you knew this wouldn't have more options on your table? at leastEDIT-----just want add that I am not implying Matrox is "decieving" I am implying they are taking advantage of consumer ignorance in a very subtle way.No news here about any company out there!---------regardspedro
September 18, 200718 yr check Magic Man's comment here:http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum...opic.php?t=9714this ^^ I believe is the forum where I should find my answer.I'll report my findings guys.regardspedro
September 23, 200718 yr I'm looking to add a second monitor to my current setup. The 2nd monitor would only be used for undock windows (GPS, EFB, etc) so I don't think this should be terribly difficult to do, however I do some questions regarding this type of setup. My Vid card has 2 outputs, 1 Digital and 1 Analog. My monitor is a Samsung 19' WS (1440 x 900). I'm not sure what the second monitor would be, but most likely would not be as big.Questions1) I'm assuming that I can use both outputs on the vid card even though they are different2) Can the 2nd monitor be run at a different resolution?3) Will this affect FPS at all? (I'm mainly flying FS9 for now, but still use FSX from time to time).Thanks,C.
September 24, 200718 yr My old ATI 9600 has exactly that (DVI + VGA).For years I've been using it with 2 monitors set up, always with different resolutions, even used wide and "normal" aspect together with no problems at all. Before present setup I had a wide 20' 1680x1050 with a 19' 1600x1200.Gauges on the 19'. (It beats a little on the card)Now I use it with 2 wide displays at 1680x1050, it does feel better. And one is on DVI the other is on VGA, no problem. This is on desktop only.I am actually able to output FS9 "cockpit view" on both. Around 18-20fps (20locked) taxiing on stock KSEA, but that is on my old Athlon XP. This is at 2560x1024, not native to displays > don't like it that much.I do think I am limited in resolution because of the VGA connection, can't tell for sure. I guess my card would be crying by then if I were to increase resolution anyway.regardspedro
September 24, 200718 yr If you could specify your video card type, perhaps we might enlist Jim Cooper to advise here. Not my area of expertise.Any extra window/popup you open will affect FPS- the good news is generally not much. Short answer-depends! But I'm running triple views and most popups open on my "Smithsonian" 1.8GHz system! When you get the 2nd monitor up and running, I would strongly encourage going for a second VIEW- (Right or Left Fwd) as well. I assume we are talking 2D panel/view.That would increase your field of view from 90
September 24, 200718 yr >1) I'm assuming that I can use both outputs on the vid card even though they are differentCorrect, you can use both >2) Can the 2nd monitor be run at a different resolution? Yes >3) Will this affect FPS at all? (I'm mainly flying FS9 for now, but still use FSX from time to time).Yes any additional processor burden will impact FPS.. If you've got a decent CPU, RAM and VRAM it should not cause undue loss of FPS in FS9. But for FSX??....depends on your specification and how maxxed it is already.Jim
September 24, 200718 yr >I have been searching through the forum but can't seem to>find an answer for my problem. I have 2 monitors right now>and a 3rd on it's way. I am in the process of building a>cockpit with the simkits guages, and will eventually want to>only have the outside view only across all 3 monitors with no>panel showing. But in the meantime, is is possible to stretch>the entire cockpit view (2d or 3d) across multiple monitors? >If so, how do I go about doing this? In order to get your view to stretch across 2 monitors you either have to setup your monitors in 'Horizontal Span' mode rather than DualView, or you must run FS in Windowed mode. Horizontal Span will only work across a Graphics card (not between 2 different cards)so 2 monitors is all you can span. If you need to span across 3 monitors you will need to run in Windowed mode. However you will get best results by following Alex's advice (Member name: January) on how to setup and align 3 separate views to give the impression of a single 180* view.RegardsJim
September 24, 200718 yr My current rig is:Core2Duo 2.13ghz2GB RamFS9/FSX on separate dedicated hard drives (FSX is on 150GB Raptor)ATI X1300 Pro 256MBSamsung 19'' WSI will be upgrading the card to the 8800GTS, most likely the 640MB version.thanks,C.
September 24, 200718 yr Just realized that searching for "january" is pretty tedious.Try this shortcut:Go to Forums Advanced SearchSearch for Keyword(s)- view angle config settingsForum- Flight Sim Hardware DiscussionSearch for- Subject and Message Search all topicsIn the resulting list, read these threads: "Three Monitors" started by Mike "Triple Monitor setup help please" started by Kimchoc Read thru' these and you're halfway to a 180
September 24, 200718 yr Just an update on the Dual DVI question I raised before.Since I am buying new system also, wanted to know for sure, i bothered to ask AMD help support:My Q: Does, specifically the HD2900XT, allows for the "Horizontal Stretch" feature to set the specific 3360x1050x32 @ 60Hz across 2 DVI displays? Simple "yes" or "no" answer will do. If the answer is conditional, please state the conditions.AMD's A:"Dear AMD Customer,Thank you for providing us with an update on your issue.No. Unfortunately, you can activate only up to 2560x1600 at 60 Hz through dual DVI displays.Thank you for choosing AMD!AMD Global Customer Care for ATI products"At first the answer I got was a:"In order to address your issue, we recommend to purchase a Radeon X1000 Series or HD 2000 Series product to accommodate your resolutions and corresponding refresh rates."as generic this can be and a non-answer I really had to go for "specifically" and "specific" :D (I think the guy did not like the tone...)In conclusion, if I was pondering this HD2900XT... not anymore, I have decided to go for a full 8800GTX. This one, at least, I know supports what I want. And I am waiting no more for any so called G92, 8900, 9800, whatever.wish you a good flight!pedro
September 24, 200718 yr 2560x1600 is the limit of a dual link dvi connection. My current setup...http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1034/136822...9ee899cbb_o.jpgWill be putting the 2407 beneath the TH2Go setup.
September 27, 200718 yr A couple more questions (if you don't mind).1) Will having a 2nd monitor that is used for GPS, Radio Stack, etc., cause any issues with TrackIR? I currently don't have it, but it is on my wish list of items to get.2) Will I have to drag each item over to the 2nd monitor each time I start FS or will the settings be remembered somehow? Thanks,C.
