February 3, 200818 yr To my mind it's not strange at all Glenn. If you run in windowed mode, then FS9 picks up its resolutions fron the Windows Display Properties. If you run in full screen mode, then FS9 picks up its resolutions from the Fs9.cfg file and reflects those values on the Options > Settings > Display screen.R-
February 3, 200818 yr Makes sense, but why the different resolutions between the center and right monitiors? They are both connected to the same video card which is set up in FS9 as 1680x1050. Maybe FS9 doesn't know how to handle 2 monitors connected to the same video card? Using multiple monitors and video cards is pretty new to me, so I'm still learning as I go.I appreciate all the help from you guys though.
February 3, 200818 yr FS9 handles 2 monitors on same card just fine... In fact, it handles 2 monitors on TWO cards just fine. Its not critical to run in full screen mode, (read everyones desire to be as real as it gets), and windowed mode solves all the issues and works just fine.Somewhere along the line of reality you have to look over at your dog that just threw up on the carpet and remind yourself its only a computer game. http://eecherrors.homestead.com/monitor3.jpghttp://eecherrors.homestead.com/DCP_1790.JPG
February 3, 200818 yr Ok, it sounds like I need to just use windows mode. That way, the resolutions will be right in all 3 views. Thanks again for everyone's help on this. Now that I have 3 monitors and all my GoFlight radios, my next goal is to build an instrument panel. I'm going to be using the gauges from SimKits and of course it will take a while as those gauges are EXPENSIVE!!!! At least I have a great view out the window for now!
February 3, 200818 yr Cetacea- With some simple setting changes, you can duplicate (almost) the appearance of Full Screen while still in Desktop mode.1-Hide the Menu Bar- key ALT to display2-Auto hide the Task Bar- move cursor to screen bottom to display3-Set Desktop Background to "None"- this gives a black/gray background the same as in full screen4-Change the Title Bars to a dark gray colour and the lettering on them to a medium green (similar appearance to a Boeing FMC display). They almost disappear when you get rid of the horrible MS blue. These mods make a tremendous improvement to Desktop Mode appearance and greatly help to blend the 3 screens into a single image. Have a look at the pic.Alex Reid ATR 72 at CYYJ Terminal (CYYJ/2007 Scenery)http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/184280.jpg
February 3, 200818 yr Thanks january, those are some really good tips. Now for tip 1-ide the Menu Bar, how do I do this? I was looking for a setting in FS to hide it, but can't find it. I know it hides in Full Screen mode, but how do you hide it in windowed mode? Here is what I have so far...http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/184289.jpg
February 3, 200818 yr Hide menu Bar- Right click on the mouse - check the line "hide menu bar". Then key Alt when you want it displayedHide task Bar- Control panel/Task bar & Start Menu/ tick the box-"Auto Hide the Task Bar". To see the hidden task bar, move the mouse arrow to the bottom of the screen.Looks like you're making great progress. Changing colour of the title bars will make a big improvement.Do your horizons appear to curl up on the outer mons?- it will depend on the height of your eyes relative to the mons. There is a simple way to twist the horizons up or down to suit your eyes and/or the positioning/angling of the outer mons.Any problems adjusting in Panel Config to correct for the width/ separation of the mon bezels? Again there is a simple way to determine the angle that will give an adjustment to 1/10 of a degree. Accurate settings here will provide perfect alignment of everything including runway lines and markings.Horizon twist and bezel correction is the same for ALL aircraft- tough it out once and then copy to other planes.Keep asking questions- maybe time to start a new thread?Alex Reid CYYJ
February 3, 200818 yr January, how do you get the aircraft frame to disappear on you system. The guy a couple posts above has the aircraft frame shown. This blocks out the view. I have tried but can do it.JimCYWG
February 3, 200818 yr Jim-I believe you are referring to virtual objects showing in the outer views such as window frames/engines etc. These show up especially in default planes and do cause problems. The default KingAir is especially bad. Addons aren't as bad- some allow for turning off all virtual elements. And they do use up FPS.There are two solutions.1 There is a way to completely eliminate these items- I haven't used it myself but Kimchoc ( regular contributor here with 4 mons), used it and got a major increase in FPS. I'll arrange for him to describe how he did it.2 In Panel Config, the line VIEW_FWD_LEFT(right)_EYE has 3 values permitting virtual objects to be moved up/down, sideways and rotated. This is my choice because some of these objects are very attractive. In the DreamFleet Baron, the engine nacelles and props add a great deal of realism- the prop spin responds exquisitely to changes in throttle, pitch & mixture. Shut down an engine, watch the rotation as feathering kills the spin! Neat. So I moved the nacelle positions to a more natural positioning and rotated them to correspond to the angles of my mons. Realism++.Hope this answers your query.Alex Reid
February 4, 200818 yr Heres the scoop on removing the VC from left/right views on trip monitor setup. The VC is hard coded into the model of the aircraft. But it is easy to get rid of. You'll need to make a backup of your model, then use a hex editor to edit a line, save and then you're done. I was a bit intimidated but knowing I had a backup, who cares? And the benefit? For me it nearly doubled my low AGP FPS from around 10-12 in airports, to nearly 20. Your mileage may vary.Heres the quote from the forums here..."A good hex editor can be found here (Hex Workshop 4.1 - shareware but fully functional for long enough to get the job done and then some):http://www.bpsoft.com/downloads/Open the mdl file you want to edit and search for the following hex value: 0022003900In the first two occurrences of that string, simply change the 39 in 0022003900 to 00. It should now look like this: 0022000000. Save the changes, OK the creation of the backup file then exit Hex Workshop to test it out in MSFS.I have found that this works on mdl files created in GMAX, FSDS, and FSDS2. It works on the default FS9 A/C, including the new vintage models. It takes two minutes at the most to complete, and if a computer moron like me can do it, then anyone can, including chimpanzees. " "In the two months since this topic was posted it has been determined that only the second occurrence of the 0022003900 string concerns the virtual cockpit, the first occurrence switches off the A/C shadows."
February 4, 200818 yr Instruments... like this? less than $60.00 materials and USB adapter.http://eecherrors.homestead.com/newpanel.jpg
February 4, 200818 yr Thanks men. That helps. I like the engines and wing but not the frames of the aircraft. I remove the centre pillar in the 2D cockpit as the runway seems to always disappear behind it on final.thanksJimCYWG
February 6, 200818 yr Jagabom- subsequent to the post by kimchoc on deleting Virtual elements that clutter Views left/right, I applied this method to the FS9 default KingAir. As you may know, the virtual fragments in this plane render multi mons quite unsatisfactory. Deleting virtual via the Hex Editor produced spectacular results- both in appearance/usability and in frame rate gain. FPS went up somewhere between 20 and 50% ! And the triple mon views appearance is great. Deleting Virtual via the Hex Editor as kimchoc described is well worth investigating for non virtual simming.Alex Reid
