October 29, 200718 yr Looks like good value. Benchamrks post it in between the GTS and the GTX but for an amazing price of $250 for the 512MB version.Single slot and runs cooler too!I shall be picking one up I think......Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
October 29, 200718 yr Yes, with this I think we now have the FSX graphics sweet spot until FS11 comes out. Throw it into an OCed quad or fast dual C2D, 2-4GB RAM and your choice of either XP for raw performance or Vista for that DX10 taste test and you're all set for some FSX lovin'. :-)Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
October 29, 200718 yr Question:Does this card have 1 or 2 connectiors to the Power Supply?I have a 7950GX2 Nvidia card, and I've hesitated upgrading into the 8800 series because I've heard that there are 2 connections required. I don't believe my system allows for that. Of course, I'm a novice on all of this, but I can install a video card if it fits correctly. See my specs below for my system. I want to get the "best" video card for performance and DX10 capability. I'm not concerned about the price.
October 29, 200718 yr Stan,Upgrading your video card into 8000sville is a function of whether your PSU can handle the extra load, not how many connections are required. The 8800 GTS I bought a few months back came with only a single connector so I'd say the new GT, which consumes less power, would likely do the same. FWIW, my 480W ANTEC only just met the spec to run an 8800 and it does a fine job of it.In any case, there is no big deal going from one to two connectors anyway. Every power supply I have seen since the 250W days has come with two independent power bundles. As long as you feed your dual power connector video card from both power bundles, all is good. At worst, you are only a power line splitter or two away from doing this, again assuming your PSU has enough juice for the job.Gary 9800X3D | 4090 | 64GB | 2+1TB NVME | 2TB SSD | 2TB HDD | 85/50/43” TVs | Quest 3 | DOF H3 Motion Rig | Buttkicker | T.16000M Flight Kit MSFS @ 4K Ultra DLSS Performance FG 80 FPS | VR VDXR Godlike 80Hz SSW | MSFS VR DLSS Quality, Ultra Preset - Windows 11 Acer Nitro 5 | i5-11400H | RTX 3060 6 GB | 32GB DDR4 | 15.6" FHD IPS 144Hz | 2 x 512 GB SSD | Windows 11
October 29, 200718 yr Thanks,Gary. Do you know anything about the GTX Card? I know the 8800 Ultra definitely won't work with my system according to Dell. I'd like to think that the GTX and the GT both would work. If the GT is a 512MB card, why would it consume less power than the GTS?Stan
October 29, 200718 yr Author 8800GT is a one power, one slot cooler card. It's based on the new G92 65nm GPU so it draws less power and runs cooler that the GTS or the GTX.See the review at anandtech.http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3140Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
October 30, 200718 yr actually, it is kinda a function of that, the GTX and Ultra require two 6pin connectors, and of course 28A on your 12v railwhile the 8800GTS's only need 1 6pingood to know the GT needs one too, thats what Im going for!also, what about pcie 2.0? Will this card fit our current mobos? Or do we need that X38 from intel? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
October 30, 200718 yr Author No, it's backwards compatible with 1.0 / 1.1We aren't bandwidth limited by 1.1 yet so 2.0 brings nothing to the table currently.Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
October 30, 200718 yr Great discussion.I'm order the GT today....this review that you gave us here, Glenn, was extremely helpful. What VALUE and PERFORANCE this card has!Which one on this webpage would YOU order?http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....800GT&x=20&y=31
October 31, 200718 yr Author I went for the EVGA 8800GT SuperclockedEVGA has the great lifetime warranty and trade up program.Funny thing is, it was only $259 CDN.Not used to seeing cheaper prices north of the border!!!Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
October 31, 200718 yr Yes the 8800GT looks like a winner.I'm still not sure if I am going to get this card (the 8800GT) or hold out for the 9-series.RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB
October 31, 200718 yr or that onehttp://www.tomshardware.com/2007/10/29/geforce_8800_gt/doesn't seem to support DX10.1 though ... more uncertainty about that dodgy 10.1 upgrade
October 31, 200718 yr Where did you order that from, newegg? I'm also north of the border (but working in the US right now)It also looks like there are mulitple flavours of the superclocked evga, a 700mhz and a 650mhz on newegg. Is the extra 50mhz worth it?Thanks,C.
October 31, 200718 yr Author I ordered it from NCIX.comThey will ship to the USA, but I see the price has risen to $279.00 now after the initial stock was depleted.Glenn Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
