November 21, 200718 yr Author Geofa,Installed my 8800GT and new 650 watt PSU today, and all I can say is...you're going to be one happy man. I flew in Hawaii with my Megascenery tonight (Honolulu International take off) and used DX10. No stutters, beautiful cockpit shadows, unbelievable water, and absolutely no blurries. Just beautiful.I began my adventure tonight by downloading the newest Direct X version from Microsoft, restarted the computer and deleted my old FSX config file. Set up my controls again (reset my buttons), reset all my "settings" in the Display section of FSX and then finally set up my default start up (KABE) with the Baron. Loved the fact that I could check DX10 in my FSX Settings, and restarted everything again.I am tremendously impressed so far. I still have lots to experiment with, but my frames are the highest they've ever been, and I'm one happy simmer at this point. My question is whether those capable of using DX10 or DX9 are simming with the DX10 preview every time? I see no reason to go back to DX9 in FSX.Thanks for the music files...I expect to enjoy those this week. About my flight lessons....I have a story to tell you there (email me and I'll tell you about it. No sense in boring the readers of this thread) My email is [email protected] to you soon, my friend.Stan
November 21, 200718 yr You have me frothing..except-I went to my computer builder today and he had ordered the wrong video card! My system will be ready tomorrow but no video card. I went to Newegg and all the cards were not available. I was bummed-but went on tonight at 11 pm and they all appeared in stock. My is ordered and coming in 3 days-it sounds like it will be worth the wait.I'll be dropping you an email.Geofhttp://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/8aa8e4...113291f5f4g.jpgMy blog:http://geofageofa.spaces.live.com/ Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

If you did you can do a 90 day step up so you have nothing to worry about and the 'old' 8800GTS you ordered isn't that bad :)
November 21, 200718 yr Ah, ok thanks for that info.I'm just wondering what is going to appear in the Feb-March-April timeframe from nVidia. Just a further G92 variant? Or something better yet?RhettAMD 3700+ (@2585 mhz), eVGA 7800GT 256 (Guru3D 93.71), ASUS A8N-E, PC Power 510 SLI, 2gb Corsair XMS 3-3-3-8 (1T), WD 150 gig 10000rpm Raptor, WD 250gig 7200rpm SATA2, Seagate 120gb 5400 rpm external HD, CoolerMaster Praetorian Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

If you haven't opened box yet definitly return the card! The GTS you purhcased is much slower than the GT, and much more expensive, as you know. And for those getting 8800's, I would certainly be instaling nHancer and taking advantage of 8xS supersample AA. Even the 16xAA available through the nvidia driver pales in comparison, but fortunatly, if you have an 8800 you have enough headroom to take advantage of supersampling. Really, the only way to fully use all the the power of the 8800 in FSX is to use supersampling. http://www.nhancer.com/Just install the prgram and then make your AA selctions through it, rather than the nvidia driver. Its really simple
November 22, 200718 yr I have the card installed and wow - I love itI will think about the 90 day step up programthanksbsciao!Brian S Ciao!
November 23, 200718 yr Love this card. I had the 8400GS in my Quad core system and it really dragged. It was stable though with the existing drivers.Did not like DX10 though and sucked the lifeblood out of my system. And with Crysis it stunk. Crysis played better on my other 3.6 GHz 2 gig X800XT 256mb PCIe system which I gave to my wife than my quad core with the 8400GS.Whole different story though with the 8800GT 512mb OC card from BGT. Now, it's DX10 all the way on FSX + LIGHT BLOOM and full autogen and great framerates - smooth. And Crysis it's beautiful. However, one caveat. The beta drivers before 169.12 caused all kinds of crashes in Crysis and some in FSX. Now with 169.12 far less crazy things happening and more stable although I did get a crash yesterday with Crysis but that was after playing for 3 hours where with the previous betas I was getting regular crashes. I think the driver situation still has to be stabilized. In FSX though I flew for two hours without a single problem.I have also increased the fan speed to 75% though as I was reading on the Guru forums the card can run pretty hot. That also seems to have stabilized things.Love this card though.
