November 2, 200817 yr What is the best TFT screen for FS9, 22" 24" 26"? I have AMD 64 3200+ and 7950GT AGP 512M DDR3 and 2 Gb PC3200 RAM. I currently use a Samsung SyncMaster 940B 19" TFT at 1280*1024. My videcard has two DVI connectors. Does that mean I must use a TFT with DVI connector? Price for 24" and 26" is significant higher than what you can get a 22" for. Is that well spent money? A 22" use 1680*1050 (1680/1050=1.6) and 24" 1980*1200 (1980/1200=1.65) while for my current TFT 1280/1024=1.25. Is this importanr since FS9 is not widescreen compatible meaning that 22" is a little better than 24" in this regard? What would be the most optimal and best monitor to use for FS9 with consideration to price and performence?
November 2, 200817 yr Answer (IMHO): The biggest one you can afford ;)Firstly, the 7950GT AGP can certainly be used with a DVI-VGA adapter without any difficulties - I have one in my other computer set up in exactly this way.I don't agree that FS9 is not widescreen compatible - sure, you'll need to adjust some panel sizes in some cases but I've been using FS9 on a 23" widescreen for nearly two years and it's great :) The outside view is not stretched, only 2d panels etc - just be sure to use the screen's native resolution.I myself am going to buy a new monitor in the next few days: it will be a Hanns-G 28" TFT which I will connect with a VGA connection to my ATI 3850 AGP card... and then I'll play FS9 (very) happily on it :) I don't know where you are posting from but here in the UK there are several online stores selling this monitor for less than

November 3, 200817 yr ...then it depends on which aircraft you're using. I'm using the BAe146/RJ85 from the Eurowings Prof. package or the LAGO MD-80 panels. For both, the main panels look ok at 1920x1200 without any tweaking and the overheads etc just need a quick adjustment (you can drag with the mouse).I've seen other people get around the stretching by resizing the panel manually (each time) and then having the FMC or GPS panel open along side.In any case, I'm confident that once you get a bigger screen (and beyond a certain point it just has to be wide format) you'll find that the extra view outweighs any slight distortion issues...Geoff
November 3, 200817 yr ----"I've seen other people get around the stretching by resizing the panel manually (each time) and then having the FMC or GPS panel open along side."-----------------------Geoff- here are two screenies to illustrate resizing the panel to suit a wide monitor. I did this on regular 4:3 monitors by shrinking/dragging the panel to simulate a wide mon. Note the throttle popup placed beside the shrunken/wide panel. The black areas at bottom are where I dragged up from 4:3 to simulated wide format.Resizing is done just by dragging an edge. When you are happy, save the flight and it will reopen to same size/settings!!Alex ReidDreamFleet Bonanza 4:3 monitor format- triple monitors. December 1, 200817 yr GeoffI am also looking for a new monitor of the size 26" / 28" size. Do you now have the Hanns-G 28"? Are you happy with it? What was it about the Hanns that stood out for you compared to other similar-ish size/price products (eg ViewSonic VX2835wm; Iiyama ProLite E2607WS 26in)?Also how would you describe the impact (if any) to FS9/FSX of having a monitor with a VGA rather than DVI connection?Appreciate your thoughts Gary(PS hope this "looks" OK - am posting a reply from a search using the new forum lay out) :(Gary,I've seen the Hanns-G in person and while it's certainly no Samsung (or other upper-tier brand), it offers excellent value. A former co-worker of mine purchased his on-sale earlier this year and he is very satisfied with it. As for VGA vs. DVI, only extremely cheap LCDs do not offer DVI connections nowadays. DVI offers the ability to run an all-digital interface for video so if given that option, I suggest you take it. Using VGA requires a digital->analog->digital conversion process that can introduce "noise" into images.

December 1, 200817 yr Ahem. I beg to differ. See sig. Plasma > LCD.:)42" would be too big for my desk, but if it works go for it.I'm just amazed how small normal 24" monitors look after using the 32" Panny,I could never go back, and 1080P , 1920x1080 is the perfect res for FSX too. December 1, 200817 yr :)42" would be too big for my desk, but if it works go for it.Oh I agree. That's why it doesn't sit on my desk :(I use my HDTV as my monitor and do everything from the couch. So much better...

Phrases such as Honest it will fit on the desk and yes we can afford it and no I wont suddenly decide we have no money in the New Year when it comes to setting up the nursery for the baby (number 3!) might have been mentioned in conversation - LOL Anyway back to technical issues. The HannsG has VGA & HDMI inputs - would it be better to get a DVI/HDMI adaptor rather than use the DVI/VGA route?TaGary

I use an HDMI adapter on a DVI cable running from my 8800 GT to my Panasonic Plasma tv. Picture quality is phenomenal.
