  1. MarniftarrSweet!Have just watched all your Youtube videos - still have big cheesy grin! With the hand held setting can we look forward to Blair Witch - FSX Style?!Watching the F-18 flight got me thinking - what would a carrier landing/take-off look like with your tool - any chance you could add it to a future video update?CheersGary
  2. StevenWelcome to the Phantom Key Press IssueI had a similar sort of issue with my saitek throttles. The tale is recounted within this link "http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=207068&st=0&p=1507294entry1507294" - its in the hardware forum. Summary below..."the advice from the saitek forum was to remove the fsuipc.ini file (kept a safe copy elsewhere) from the modules folder. This did the trick and stopped phantom panning! After reading some posts on the pete dowson forum I came across a very similar issue and it appears that the .ini file "picks up" (dont know how - maybe my fault or something else!) repeat button assignments. Eg the top hat on the yoke is assigned and can be seen in the .ini [buttons] section but the same key ref for pan view eg 66416 is also assigned to another controller.hence uncontrolled panning....simple really LOL!removal of the .ini file forces fsuipc to create a new one in fsx without the assignment conflict. The other thing that might help - I havent studied the effect forensically but other advice is around the forums and that is to make sure no button/axis assignments are in the "normal" fsx controls assignment menu."Your issue may be different as its not on constantly but searching around the forum on the saitek website & fsuipc should be quite useful - suggest you dig around and see whether you can find what you need. Searching for "phantom saitek throttle" on avsim forums or on an external search engine may help also.TaGary
  3. seen here in Bristol - UKAlso - do the Airmets/Sigmets only apply to the USA - they only appear on the US on the ASA map?taGary
  4. Whilst the families asleep, a quick trip to Sainsburys at 6am to get final bits and pieces - check hifi website and the download button is now active. Yipeeee - no one in the house need know! All d/l'd OK - fiddled with options, had a look at snapshot - that needs some further invest...So down to FSX - fire up Baron, Filton, UK take off - straight into and above cool looking low level cloud layer - never seen it look quite like that before - dont know whether its specific to new functionality of ASA - but am enjoying it!thanks for the early Xmas presentGary
  5. LOL - maybe all FS downloads should appear on credit card statements as "Tyre" or "Petrol" or "Milk" - rather than use words like Simulation or xxxxFlight or Captainxxx ......Anyway another one joins the queue waiting for the pay/download button to go live, much better than wrapping presents!Gary
  6. right seem to have it sorted!the advice from the saitek forum was to remove the fsuipc.ini file (kept a safe copy elsewhere) from the modules folder. This did the trick and stopped phantom panning! After reading some posts on the pete dowson forum I came across a very similar issue and it appears that the .ini file "picks up" (dont know how - maybe my fault or something else!) repeat button assignments. 7. Thanks for the clarification.I have posted on the saitek forums and I'll see what advice I get. There is a sticky on the saitek forums about phantom key presses that gives advice about deleting "joystick" assignments in FSX and also the FAQ at saitek has some guidance on getting rid of drivers - unfortunately none of that worked. The specific issue with my set up is when I leave the 2 x saitek throttle quadrant plugged in it causes the panning to go straight to top dead centre. What is unusual is that both my quadrants cause the same effect when plugged in independently and as I have had them for 15 months I would be surprised if there was a hardware issue at fault. I'm thinking it might be a driver problem (I dont have the SST s/w installed)...anyway I'll pursue it on the saitek forums.TaGary
  8. SargeskiDo you have any more details on this firmware - is it just a driver update or something else, a quick search on the internet just seemed to point at the drivers?TaGary
  9. Greg did you get this sorted out?I have just discovered, after 15 months of no problems, that both my saitek throttle quadrants seem to be sending a panning signal to FSX so that when I am any view that can pan it shoots straight to top dead centre ie the roof in vc mode! By a process of elimination I worked out it was the quadrants causing it - independent of which usb port I used. It only needs one of the quadrants to be installed to cause this effect. I got the latest Vista 64 driver from Saitek but that seemed to make no difference.Doing a further search in this forum I found the following....Q: When they first came out, people were having issues with random key presses. Have these problems now been corrected? A: The phantom key press issue was fixed sometime ago with new firmware. Sounds similar?TaGary
  10. Appreciate any assistance with the following:For some reason all the views in FSX with panning available (eg VC, external views) seem to swinging automatically up to "top dead centre" ie when in the VC it swings straight up to look at the roof - without any input from me. I normally use the top hat for panning but it doesnt seem able to bring the view down at all. Only CTRL+Q brings it down, but when I release it goes straight back up again!!- this has never happened before- I calibrate axis/assign yoke/quadrant buttons via FSUIPC- controller is turned off in standard FSX controller menu- I have reset the computer - no improvement- deleted the fsx.cfg (kept an archive copy) and reset computer - no improvement- taken all controllers out of usbs and reinserted and reset computer - no improvementThe only thing I can think that may caused a problem is that the last thing I did on Sunday (always a clue) was to run IL-2 Sturmovik 1946. As I hadnt played in a while I had to reassign axes via the config menu in IL-2. The other thing I ended up doing was under control panel/game controller/advanced I shifted the default setting for older programs from the throttle quadrant to the flight yoke. When I then launched FSX today the axis assignments in FSUIPC for the yoke seemed all messed up - I have reassigned the flight control surfaces and the top hat but I still get the problem described above.Any ideas would be good as FSX is unusable at the moment....GRRR!TaGary
  11. Thanks for your reply. The HannsG is now on order after I scraped the wife off the ceiling when she actually realised how "big" it was going to be (despite me telling her a number of times!) Phrases such as Honest it will fit on the desk and yes we can afford it and no I wont suddenly decide we have no money in the New Year when it comes to setting up the nursery for the baby (number 3!) might have been mentioned in conversation - LOL Anyway back to technical issues. The HannsG has VGA & HDMI inputs - would it be better to get a DVI/HDMI adaptor rather than use the DVI/VGA route?TaGary
  12. Jim/Loydthanks for your help - got traffictoolbox working off the SDK - just what I was looking for!it took a little while to figure out the xml editing - following helped:"open xml editor" tool"fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=SDK_Installation_(FSX)" - because I had non standard installationand realisation that SP1 SDK actually came on Acceleration disc (that needed to be loaded before Accel (SP2?) SDK.now off to do some flying!TaGary
  13. HiI just bought the JF Traffic X s/w. When I right click within FSX to change views I can select AI traffic - but because there are so many I cant see the complete list. Does anyone know how it is possible to see the list of all AI active either as a function within FSX or something operating outside of it? I appreciate, if this "tool" exists, that I probably wont be able to change the view to any a/c within that list - but it would be useful to see the complete list to get a sense of total number and mix of AI flying.TaGary

I have had the same thing, I did think that it was due to some problem I generated for myself when I was adding freeware files and so just accepted it. Although i have just started afresh by deleting and re-installing vanilla FSX to reach the heady heights of Acceleration.Anyway with a clean install (following guidance given previously here - thanks david roch!) and prior to going onto the next step of SP1 I tried the goose again and got the same problem as before? Any clues anyone - sound drivers? as the OM said I dont seem to have the problem on any other aircraft.Thanks.Gary
  15. Hi,I am wondering if someone can help with the following questions.(1) I cant seem to find the extra SP1 "functionality" in my fsx.cfg file. Once I finally found it in Vista (thanks for previous post from Jim Karn) I opened it up but couldnt see any of the extra items described by Phil Taylor here(http://blogs.msdn.com/ptaylor/archive/2007/05/15/new-tweaks-in-sp1.aspx). I have confirmed that I have installed SP1 via FSX but there is no show on things like SWAP_WAIT_TIMEOUT;DAY_THRESHOLD etc?(2) The reason I wanted to tweak fsx.cfg was to try and make the nights darker. It didnt seem that realistic to be able to see individual fields from 5000ft at midnight! Searching on forum posts the recommendation is to tweak NIGHT_THRESHOLD. But that apparently only effect the "amount of 'ambient' light at the ends of the day/night blend threshold". Any other tips or does tweaking threshold work for you?(3) I have just bought Active Sky X/X Graphics and although enjoying the extra functionality it got me thinking. When I have been flying (in real world) when you break through a layer of overcast the thing that strikes me is the "whiteness" of the clouds. The clouds are good when flying underneath but when you go topside they dont have that brightness I would expect to see in reality. Is it a function of the textures, video card technology, FSX ???Thanks for any help you can provideGary
  16. Yes, Yes and Yes!!I have been attached to my new Q6600 machine for the past week since I built it. FSX works so well that I havent even got round to o/c yet. Similar to yourself I have just done a flight from Phoenix (to Yuma) and back again and am able to have dense autogen, road traffic and >50% commercial ai traffic. Frames ~20 min on approach to Phoenix.I have tried some of the missions and they had some good "moments" eg "Midwest Fly In" on take off in the piper cub as you pop over the trees after take-off there is a freeway there and I got a cool first look at road traffic close up. Also "Amazon Trek" again after take-off, its like you are taking off on a plateau as the rainsforest and river suddenly appear beneath you. Even the wife was slightly impressed by the water effects!!It makes me go all nostalgic when I think back to playing on Fighter Pilot on the Amstrad CPC464 in the mid '80s with just a yellow ground and blue sky! I still managed to burn up hours playing that then, so it feels like as my "imagination" has waned with age the technology has just about filled the gaps!So thanks to everyone for the hints and tips and blood sweat tears and occasional curses that have gone on over the past year or so as the community has worked its way through all the various challenges!Happy flying!Gary
  17. Thanks for your comments esp. confirming the case and the guidance on memory. The video/processor issue is tricky (in a sense!) - can I wait and see what comes over the horizon (cost/performance) or I do I want to plunge right in now....given I am creaking along on a PC 5yrs old I am keen to take a big step up now, hopefully get a "capable FSX", save some more pennies and upgrade the processor in 18-24m just in time for FSX11....!!!!I'll sleep on it for a few days and see if early Jan shows any signs of further news on when the Q9450 gets released.TaGary
  18. HiI am just about to buy a new computer (self build) and would appreciate any comments on what I am planning to purchase. I am aiming the system to be "capable" of running FSX (primarily) and other games on the market - but with an element of future-proofing (ahh nirvana!). I appreciate from reading the posts on FSX for the past year or so that one persons "FSX is capable" can be different to another persons for a whole range of reasons from add-ons, drivers, tweaks, phase of the moon etc......So I have been buying the mags (UK Custom PC, PC Format) reviewing the websites (toms hardware, 3dguru, anandtech, etc) to try and come with a logical set of components. Where relevant I have indicated why I have selected a component - if you see any contradictions, errors of judgement please shout!CaseCoolermaster Stacker RC-832- should provide space/flexibility for future upgrades- bit expensive but reviews seem positive. MotherboardGigabyte GA-X38-DQ6- features; x38 chipset, PCI-E 2.0, o/c capability, should provide some longer term capability if I update processor in 18-24m.- one concern I had was a review I read that said "BACK PLATE PREVENTS COOLER FROM GETTING MOUNTED" - would this affect the CPU cooler?ProcessorIntel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Go stepping - seems to be a recommended processor for cost/capability - I am aware of the Q9450, was due to be January, but pcperspective (19 Dec) indicated this has been slipped back to Feb/March. Video Card (gnashing of teeth time!)xfx 8800GT alpha dog xxx (PV-T88P-YDD4) 512MBor (if budget can stretch)512MB BFG Technology 8800GTS, PCI-E 2.0 (x16),(BFGR88512GTSE)- the xfx card has "NVIDIA nView Multi-Display Technology" - does that mean anything useful for FSX? I may get a 2nd screen later this year or even look at getting the Matrox TH2GO so does the nView help with either option?- This uses the G92 graphics chip but I wonder about the 9800GTX. I seen it mentioned (on this forum) as being available in Jan but havent found much about it on the web - should I hold fire for a couple of weeks or just go with the 8800GT? I have just found a news article at pcperspective that only refers to a mid range geforce 9600 due in Feb 08.MemoryCrucial Ballistix BL2KIT12864AA804- recommended "Mid range DDR2" in Custom PC- I am going to get 4GB as I will get 64bit Vista. One question I had was whether there is any benefit to FSX with 2x2GB w.r.t. 4x1GB?Power SupplyAntec Quattro 850WHard DriveSamsung Spin Point T166-HD501LJ- a number of positive reviews on this in the magazines (eg Custom PC Elite)- depending on how budget holds out I may buy a second hard drive - some benefit for FSX in running on its own disc?DVD DriveSamsung SH-S203BCPU CoolingArtic Freezer 7 Pro- positive reviews on this in the magazines (eg Custom PC Elite)SoftwareVista Home Premium (OEM 64 bit)and finallyFSX Deluxe!A bit of a monster post, but thanks to others who have posed similar questions or have come up with solutions (esp Mr "RESET MCP ALT") they have all helped in developing my understanding.Happy New Year!Gary
  19. Thanks for the ideas Pat. I wasn't refering to the Pro Flight Yoke. The throttle is on the saitek website and also at amazon.com - product code (PZ45). The three lever throttle is a bit like a CH throttle split in half. I have seen the X-52 in the stores you refer to so was planning to pick one up as an early Christmas present!I was hoping there may be a specialist retailer abit like UK based-RC Simulations in one of the areas I will be travelling through. If it doesnt look promising I might try and see if an online retailer will delivery to a hotel I will be staying in.RegardsGary
  20. I live in the UK and am going to be travelling on business in the USA for the next couple of weeks. Does anyone know of retailers in the following areas that would sell Saitek Three Lever Throttles?- Washington DC- Maryland- IndianapolisI have tried searching on the internet but havent had any luck in finding anywhere. One alternative would be to order them on the internet and get them delivered to my hotel. But that would be using a UK based credit card - would that work? Thanks for any help or suggestions!Gary
