in the sound settings the dropdown only shows one option, even when the speakers and headphones are plugged in, on and both working. i use a front and back panel like darem but the only option it shows is realteck HD output...any one know why?

Yes, in the reatek soundpanel (did you install it?), you have to explicitly state that they should be treated as different outputs.

Not too unusual, but great fun......I have a great time with this setup :-)

One of my favourites so far! I do like this one alot, especially the switchboard and the notebook at the side.
