April 10, 200917 yr Hey Josh,That one made me laugh out loud. It's 'TUBULAR' (surfer term). Surround Sound 'piped' in, too (hehe). Does it come apart for 'transport'? Only I imagine it 'jiggles' a lot (don't see enough 'cross bracing'). How many 'G's' can it take? No 'drag' on this baby, that's for sure. Not going to ask you about 'frames', either.Chuck BNapamule
April 10, 200917 yr Okay, I think you've just shown everyone you have the best setup.Just out of curiosity though, does it feel odd if you decide to fly a cessna one day? What happens with the displays?
April 10, 200917 yr This is nothing compared to what other builders have accomplished. Mine is a mere drop in the building bucket. If you investigate the hobby you will soon find this out.I don't fly anything but the 727.
April 12, 200917 yr Mine is a mere drop in the building bucket. If you investigate the hobby you will soon find this out.I've seen some other accomplishments across the web and in magazines. It's something I dream of, but I know I can't achieve due to my lack of knowledge, amongst other things! Some replica cockpits are incredible!

Fifty years ago I desperately wanted a sailboat. No money meant building it myself- but no knowledge meant learning. Here is the result- 20 years later, after starting right from the drawing board! If you want something badly enough, start reading and asking questions! The only dumb questions are the ones that didn't get asked.Alex Reid

April 14, 200917 yr I've seen some other accomplishments across the web and in magazines. It's something I dream of, but I know I can't achieve due to my lack of knowledge, amongst other things! Some replica cockpits are incredible! It's not as hard as you may think. Depending upon what you want, you can buy nearly an off-the-shelf 737NG with very little building involved other than set-up and light wiring. If you add a shell, interior would have to be added as well, but still no big deal. Manufacturers make these components. Perfect interior panel replicas are available, overhead frames all the panels, throttles, etc. This route is many more times expensive than a scratch-build as I have done. That wasn't really planned, it just happened that way because no one makes 727 parts. This hobby is very expensive. Or it can be, depending upon what you build. We get many questions about where to start from young people and we usually tell them to start with a job and save money. An equivilent 737NG to my 727 is many times more than what I have invested. Some will spend upwards of 15-20K for what you see in my photo if building a 737NG or Airbus A-320. That doesn't include the computers, monitors, and software. It does take a lot of reading on the internet to get a handle on how these are built and to find out if this hobby is for you. It's no different than any other adult hobby be it model railroading, RC planes and cars, or building boats. Dedication, attention to detail, and a willingness to complete the project go a long way in any hobby.Never say you cannot do something. If you say that it will never happen. Attitude is everything.

(ive surfed all my life)Yeah she jiggles and wobbles about but not thru any faults of mine, I intentionally left it like that so I could bounce around abit... Instead of the boring stillness of sitting at a desk in a 2kt x-wind..It all come apart pretty easily, only some joints are glued and yeah its generally a real lil hoot when flyin around..Josh Cheers Josh Cliff
April 16, 200917 yr Not too unusual, but great fun. To the left under the keyboard, the computer. Two 1680x1050 monitors on a DualHead2Go, on top of them, barely visible, the TrackIR. On the table to the left the mini bluetooth keyboard for the Netbook behind the Saitek Switch panel (runs the Google Maps Tool to let me see where I am *g*). The thing with the blue glow is a n52 by Belkin, programmable keyboard for macros (I use it for the responses to ATC). Saitek Yoke and Saitek Switchpanel as well as Throttle Quadrant, behind the quadrant there is the M-Panel from VRinsight. To the right, my networked notebook running FSC 8.5, FSMap, FS Flight Keeper, ASA and (hopefully soon, once I get the registration process fixed) AirHauler. Rudder Pedals under the table, as well as a lot of cables and the subwoofer for those RR-engines *g*. Oh yes, airplane sound from the subwoofer and the small boxes, ATC from headphones.I have a great time with this setup :-)
April 16, 200917 yr Oh yes, airplane sound from the subwoofer and the small boxes, ATC from headphones.I have a great time with this setup :-)I've been asking this for a long time...how do you get ATC through your headphones and all other sound from the speakers?? I'm using a USB headphone, so it doesn't go through the sound card.Any help would be appreciated. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |

I'm using a USB headphone, so it doesn't go through the sound card.Any help would be appreciated. Can't tell you for sure for your setup, because my soundcard splits audio between the rear and the front output (both with normal connections, and I can choose the differnt outputs in the sound setup menu for FSX. If your USB headphone is detected there as well, then it might work. Just choose the regular speakers in the left dropdown menu and your phones in the right one.
April 16, 200917 yr ...FSX... :( Looks like after some reading its only a FSX feature, and not possible in FS9 thanks anyways - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |
