CTD b4 Taxiing

Featured Replies

Hi all,Have a reoccurring prob, maybe somebody there in Forum land can give me some advice. Had this one a while back and due to a tip of a forum buddy it went away but now its back and not intermittent anymore but all the time. Here is the thing, after landing at any airport, default or add-on, and acknowledging Tower to tune to Ground for taxi instructions, I get a CTD. The only way to finish the flight properly is 1. Safe the flight b4 acknowledging Tower to change to Ground. 2. Exit FS2004. 3. Reboot my PC. 4.Startup FS2004 and load the saved flight. Only then can I ackn. Tower and switch to Ground and get the instructions to taxi to parking with no CTD. Also no probs when landing on non tower airports using multicomms.Sound card is onboard the MB and HD with updated drvrs. Sound Settings in DX9c tried from nil to max acceleration, no results. Tried to tweak AI tfc slider (U.FTC 2007) no results. Running Grnd Enviro Pro. FS9.1, Win XP Pro with latest SP.Will using an add-on sound card resolve this problem? Appreciate some feed-back thank you.cheers, Richard

Thank you very much, but it seems like a very rare occurance. But I am not giving up, as it is a bit of a nuisance landing at airports this wayHave a nice daycheersRichard

You know what? I've had this same problem just yesterday. I was flying he VRS Superbug, and I had multiple CTDs. I have yet to see if it occurs with other aircraft, since I have never seen this problem before.

RichardThis sounds like a bug that occurs when flying from a non-towered to towered airport. It drove me nuts for quite a long time before I seen a post where someone finally figured it out.As far as I know there is no known solution and what I did when I was flying FS9 was to check if the departure ap was towered, and if not, to add one.It sounds as if MS did not acquire the storage necessary to process 'tower' on departure and then assumed that it was already acquired when processing the arrival.Of course, your problem might be something else; but this is worth a look at.Bob Z

Thanks Bob,Appreciate all feed back regarding this, but I do not think it might help me. As in regards to flying from non tower to tower AP, in my case this does not matter. I have CTD from tower to tower airports almost every where. It seems that when there is no comms activated between tower and plane after landing all is well. The crash happens after I confirm to switch to ground. And yet if I reboot and start from the same position where the CTD happened, I have no problems.I can then ackn Tower, switch to Ground and receive taxi instructions without any problems at all. It always happens on the initial landing/taxiing. Laning, taxiing and parking ignoring Tower/Ground comms is also fine.Right now I am in the process of trying disable the onboard soundcard and using an add-on card. Having trouble finding a PCI slot that does not interfere with my video card right now. If I ever find a solutions, you guys will know for sure.In the mean time thanks again and happy flyingCheersRichard

Hi all,Gee it sure is good to see AVSIM back again. Been away awhile and thought to check this site and sure enough back again. Boy that is great, however I am still having this problem. I have now disabled the onboard HD sound card and installed a non-expensive card with up to date drivers. Still no luck, getting a CTD as soon as I acknowledge Tower to switch to Ground. I am however still looking for a solutions to this problem. So cheers for nowRichard

Boy, that's pretty odd. Does it matter how long your flights are? Have you tried the same procedure but with a 10 minute flight instead of a 2 hour flight? I wonder if one of your sound, (.wav), files are corrupted or possibly even the USEnglishBig.gvp. Do you run EditVoicePack by any chance?Mark

Hi Mark,It sure is, a complete mystery to me also. Nope have not tried it on short flights, will do that next. Might also check the various Wave files (never thought of that) and No I do not run EditVoice Pack. Just the stock standard ATC of FS9.Where is the USEnglishBig.gvp located? Thanks anyways and will keep on digging. cheersRichard

The USEnglishBig.gvp is in the "Flight Simulator 9\Sound" folder. If you suspect any kind of corruption, you can always grab the original USEnglishBig.gvp from the FS9 CDRoms. For that matter, you can grab all of the original wav files as well. It would simply be an overwrite to the files in you FS9 folders. You just have to make sure that you're copying them to the right place! The one interesting thing that EditVoicePack does is that it recompiles all of the wav files into the USEnglishBig.gvp. If all else fails and you come to the point that you want to re-install FS9, you might give EditVoicePack a go becasue it would update a possible source of corruption, if that is truely what is happening.Regardless, post what happens after your short flight tests and we'll go from there. Hopefully, more people will chime in with some other ideas. By the way, where in OZ are you?Mark

Thanks Mark,Will keep on digging b4 doing a complete re-install, not something I am looking forward to, with all the stuff I have added on etc etc. (including a home made Cessna panel) At the moment I am still on my Low and Slow flights but will do a shorty in between to see. As said earlier all OK when using Multicom but the problem occurs when talking to Tower b4 switching over to Ground.Yep prefer to copy the sound files from the CD first b4 anything else. I sure will keep you guys up to date in case, but...right now zippo.Live just north of Sydney (Central Coast) with Warnervale as the local Airport. So thanks again for the input and will keep on keeping onCheersRichard.

There's a known bug in FS9's ATC.DLL that will cause a CTD if you tune to a freq that is also assigned to ATIS at another airport within comm range of the airplane. You might try using AFCAD to change the gnd control freq at the airport you're at and see if that helps.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

G'day again,Continuing trying to resolve my prob with CTD. Have now replaced atc.dll and USEnglishBig.gvp. Have done few flights in Europe ranging from half, one and one and a half hour flights. So far no problems with Tower and Ground comms.Am doing more flights now in other areas and see if things are stable now (fingers crossed). Will keep you postedcheersRichard
