vfr scenery,vista issue

Featured Replies

I own a hi spec vista PC.I'm considering purchasing the Horizon VFR series, along with London 3D scenery.I've read that it crashes with Vista. Is this true?Is it worth me buying? Thanks for any advice.

Quite untrue. I run these two addons on FSX using Vista64. As long as you are high spec you will get amazing rasults.

Great.Thanks for your reply

I run Horizon VFR Generation X Version 2, VFR Airfields Volume 1, and VFR London X on my Q9550/4GB RAM/512MB 9800GT/Vista64 powered PC, and I can confirm that it runs perfectly fine. Of course, VFR London X at maximum detail levels reduces the framerate considerably (as low as 10 fps with AA and AF enabled at 1024x768 resolution), but the photographic scenery outside of London runs super smooth. I also use Heathrow Xtreme and Gatwick Xtreme by Gary Summons, so that also has an effect on framerates when flying near London, but there are always compromises that can be made.

I actually get better frames rates flying around London since installing UK2000 Heathrow Xtreme than I did when I used the default FSX version. And yes all of the above software runs perfectly on Vista, if anything I'd recommend Vista 64 over XP for all those add-ons together on the same machine especially if you have 4Gb of system RAM.

Cheers, Andy.

Me too. And on Vista 64. I think the "Xtreme" label is a bit unfortunate because it could suggest framerate-killing levels of detail. In fact, the detail is superb but I find these sceneries to be very kind on the framerate.
