June 29, 200916 yr Author Right, this is the newest option: different website, better value for money, just at the top of what I can afford (I may see if I can crank it down a bit) and it seems to be a fairly meaty system. What about the Graphics Card and CPU? Are they good ones especially for what I want?:Have a look and see but hopefully we're getting close to the end of my quest! :( Cheers Mike
June 29, 200916 yr Looks decent, will work for fsx, but that power supply has me wondering. You want to invest in a nice psu from corsair, antec or pc power and cooling, like at least 600w | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
June 30, 200916 yr Author 600W? Won't that be too much? I read the graphics card's recommended W was 450W so will that do... or is it more than the graphics card that needs the power supply specific wattage? (forgive me, I am only a novice at this :( ) And does it matter if the motherboard is ATX or mATX? (mATX is A LOT cheaper so I wondered that, like with everything else, that would directly affect performance) Mike
June 30, 200916 yr 450w would be ok as long as it is a quality brand. The main thing you are concerned about the amount of Amps on the 12v rail. You'll want at least 30A for that video card. I prefer single rails as opposed to multiple rails. ExamplesSingle rail:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817703009you can see in the specs the +12V has 60Amps, which is very solidMultiple Railshttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16817371015+12V1@22A,+12V2@22A,+12V3@25AReally if your 450w psu is solid it would have 450w / 12volts = 37Amps (37.5 actually)mATX is micro ATX, a much smaller motherboard usually for smaller micro atx cases... As long as it's a decent piece of kit (which no doubt for that price it isn't :( )?Do many seller websites give details like this on PSU's? And do mATX's generally have worse performance or not? Thanks for the help ryanbatcund, i'll keep you posted (and sorry this post's been at the top of this forum for so long :( )CheersPS: Sorry for all the questions! July 2, 200916 yr Mike unfortunately the above system will not run FSX maxed out fully smooth with add-ons, but may do so with a few sliders cranked back a couple notches. The GTS 250 is faster than the 9800 GT. Not by any huge amount but definitely faster.

The GTS 250 is faster than the 9800 GT. Not by any huge amount but definitely faster.OK, cool, FS9 is my main version (haven't touched FSX yet!) and so i take it this situation is definitely possible with FS9... but I don't mind having a couple of sliders back in FSX, as long as it can run it! It's a huge step up from the PC's I have in the house at the moment, and will be the best! Although on the whole gaming scheme of things it's only about average... :( Can't believe though that ebuyer.com are selling a better graphics card than the 9800GT for a pound cheaper! :( Just a few of questions before I buy: - As some of the stuff is 'OEM' will they (i.e the Hard Drive and CD Drive) come with the necessary cables, if required, or is that provided with the motherboard in this specific ebuyer.com order?- Does anyone know where I can get a really good bargain flat screen monitor in new or nearly new condition (It's looking like eBay at the moment)?- Finally, if you were under this tight budget ( Mike
July 2, 200916 yr Commercial Member If you are only running FS9 primarily (and are saving an upgrade for FSX or whatever for the future), then I would ditch the Quad Core and go Dual Core, hopefully that should save you a little bit of money.Don't forget an operating system as well. July 5, 200916 yr Author Well, I was hoping to run FSX on this system (not necessarily at max. settings) eventually - hence the Quad Core...And, yep, I am trying to find an XP at a bargain price, somewhere... Mike
July 30, 200916 yr Right, sorry for the random bump, found this topic whilst searching for something else.I've just bought a new computer myself, and being a Brit, was in the same market as you.I actually picked up a PC from ALDI for
