Switch FS2004 Language from German to Engligh ?

Featured Replies

I purchased a cheap copy of FS2004 recently. However when I install it I discover its actually a German version.I attempted to install the English service pack 1. But it didn't work saying ATC.DLL was missing or modified. So I installed the German service pack 1. Then I tried replacing language.dll from an English FS2004. That didn't help. All the menus and text are still in German. I also tried an English language.dll from FSX but that didn't work either. How do I turn it into English text?
Sorry, I can't help you with this one. I just wanted to apologize for some of the "old boys" here in the forum, being cynical.Guys, he is a newbie, so perhaps totally inexperienced in FS. He won't be even able to do the lessons, because they are off course all in German. All the menus are in German. So if you have no English copy to compare, you will have absolutely no clue to understand the menus, have no possibility to change settings etc.Further I have to add, that I myself never would buy a German copy of FS, although my native tongue is German (I'm from Austria). I used to buy German copies, I think up to FS2000, but the translations from English were really crab. Somebody with absolutely no idea of aviation must have done the translation, some phrases did not make any sense in German.I remember that they e. g. always used the German Word "Ruder" for the English "aileron" and for the English "rudder". That's because in German you have got "Querruder" (aileron) and "Seitenruder" (rudder) so thy just shortened both to "Ruder", which was sometimes really confusing. I have no idea if this has improved for FS9, but I highly doubt it, when looking on MS's German speaking ads for FS.CheersWolfgang

I'm not being cynical - just realistic. If you buy a cheap copy of FS9 then find it's not what you want it's your own fault. You can't expect anyone else to cover for your own mistake as he wants:
Shouldn't have to. Should be a simple way to switch languages as any decent software is written that way.

I just bought a "cheap" copy of FS2004 yesterday at Frys Electronics for $20 bucks. Just to stow away as a back-up since I have been using mine now for 6 years. Brand new and sealed for safe-keeping - just to show if you look around you can still grab a version of it.

Intel i9-12900KF, Asus Prime Z690-A MB, 64GB DDR5 6000 RAM, (3) SK hynix M.2 SSD (2TB ea.), 16TB Seagate HDD, Gigabyte GeForce 5080 RTX, Corsair iCUE H70i AIO Liquid Cooler, UHD/Blu-ray Player/Burner (still have lots of CDs, DVDs!)  Windows 10, (hold off for now on Win11),  EVGA 1300W PSU
Netgear 1Gbps modem & router, (3) 27" 1440 wrap-around displays
Full array of Bravo, Saitek and GoFlight hardware for the cockpit. Varjo and HP VR headsets for mixed reality.

You should find it in Control Panel - Regional & Language Options - Keyboards & Languages. Its only available in Vista Ultimate and Enterprise Editions though.
But you do have to install the language packages available from Microsoft. They are about 1,2GB per package I think.
Ah, that explains why I never came across it during my brief stint with Vista.
And even this doesn't work well. I invested this few additional $$ and thought 'nice idea'', but updates ask wich language they should install and the result is a mish-mash of all languages (and folder names!). That's why I decided to buy FSX and Vista in english (which was not easy to get here).
I am the same. Although my native language is Dutch, I prefer English. As far as I know there's no Dutch version of FS, but with everything else I need to watch out. It's not so much the language itself, but let's say you have a problem with a program, imagine troubleshooting with error messages in languages other than English... Not impossible, but much more diffficult. :(

Ok, I know that this is an old topic, but I'm Interested on it.

I have almost every software of my PC in English, and I say almost because it happens that my FS9 is the only program that I have in Spanish. That's because now I live in Mexico, and I couldn't find any original copy of FS9 in English (unless I purchase a copy on the net and pay for extra shipping and handling).

It really it's a shame, first because I grew up at Chicago and English is my natural language, anyway, I resigned myself because I had to realise that I'm living on an hispanic country and had to get use to it, but then when I flew the lessons and got the certificates, I felt discriminated, because in Spanish they always specified genders while they talk, and the certificates came only for male pilots and I'm female, so that's not fair.

I was wondering if I could get al least the English Uries for those certificates, they came on .bmp and there are only 5 of them.

No, it doesn't quite work that way.

Amazon is a good source for FS9.
