FS Altitude

Featured Replies

I started to contemplate FS Altitude as I'm flying fairly high in my Cheyenne X (Digital Aviation) most of the times. As I arrived at their web shop (link above) and noticed each module only covers parts of the US and they cost a whoooping

HiI only own FS Altitude Europe, so can't speak for the American version. For me the European edition has been some of the best money I ever spent on FS.I'm not sure how well it would work for you in your Cheyenne, for the scenery to look it's best you really need to be well above 30,000'. Once you're there though, the scenery is incredible. All of it is as good as the screenshots on their website would suggest. Flying over the Alps is stunning, and anything to get away from the landclass system is great. I owned UT Europe - it's very good at what it does but I wouldn't go back.A few downsides you might want to consider though:- No seasonal differences- No night lighting effectsOther than that I can't recommend the scenery enough!Mike

Ouch! I must admit I'm curious about the very high price. Maybe it is very expensive to produce it (satellite/aerial imagery etc.) or is the product so amazing people are willing to pay the price? I would certainly buy it had the price been more around in the

Ouch! I must admit I'm curious about the very high price. Maybe it is very expensive to produce it (satellite/aerial imagery etc.) or is the product so amazing people are willing to pay the price? I would certainly buy it had the price been more around in the €25 neighborhood. As it is I think I'm gonna give this one a skip for the time being. Thanks guys/Jonas
Never been a big fan of the photo scenerys, I fly mainly low level vfr hence why roads are pretty important. I have some good mesh for the alts, just want to make the roads, and VFR type scenery more accurate.hmm somehow I ended up in the wrong thread....

If you have the computer horsepower, you can get rid of those "repetetive textures" you see when flying at higher altitudes by increasing your LOD Radius setting from the FSX maximum of 4.5 to 8.0. Yeah...it will decrease your frame rates, but if your computer is powerful enough, you have it configured correctly so you don't get stutters or pauses, and you realize 20 FPS without stutters or pauses is better than 60 FPS WITH them, then increasing the LOD setting with something like UTX and\or GEXn will give you some amazing results.Yes...I must be one of those "rich simers who can afford 6 screens, a home cockpit, and a PC running 4 i7 975 intel cores, with 100 gigs of Ram", but I won't apologize for it (I actually only have a Q4 9650, but it IS configured and maintained correctly, and let's me run everything I want the way I want it in FSX). If your computer CAN handle a higher LOD Radius setting, it solves the "repetetive textures" problem.FalconAF

Just the reverse, surely? The further you can see, the more texture tiles you will see defined in detail, and the more they can therefore repeat. The texture tiles are chosen on the basis of the landclass file, which is unaffected by the LOD setting.UTX and GEX can reduce the repetition effect, and it's less apparent in 'busy' areas where there are lots of urban areas and water features, but in areas of plains or deserts it's very noticeable. Flying from KSLC to KLAX with FSAltitude is a far different (and infinitely more interesting) experience, compared to the default or even UTX / GEX.

Maybe the lack of night and seasonal textures is because they would take ten times the space as the summer-day-only textures? That's the only thing that's keeping me away from it.
