waste of money as FSX runs like a pig

Featured Replies

G'day I posted back in the old temp forums 1 time about poor FPS after getting a i7 920 that was not overclocked using 7800GTX x2 SliToday i got myself a grinward 285GTX 1gb card and no real change to FSX at all and i still have the same problems spikes i started to get when i used Nhaner and the tune up guide, Nick's Tune Up guide. The spikes started to happen as soon as i used Nhaner with the 7800GTX cards and i have also seen my FPS have dropped way off as well. Using fraps i could easy hit 150fps with most settings maxed out. Now with the 285GTX im getting same spikes and im lucky to hit 60fps that with all weather set to fine and clear. Flying over NYC with aerosoft manhattan x installed im getting about 10fps. I have shut down Nhaner and tryed to get my old settings back to try and get this sim to fly the way it was just with some better looks but with no luck at all. So dose someone know how i can fix this problem im getting now after spending so much money.FSX SP2The i7 920 overclocked to 3.6Gainward 285GTX 1GbVista 64 6GB ram clean installed with FSX onlyGA-EX58-UD3R

I don't know, I had the same probs putting FSX on my system which has 3 times the labelled minimums required on everything. I just gave up and went to FS2004. I'd say FSX runs like a pig, too...a stuck, bleeding pig. :( :( Good luck.

VillanGo back to basics. No addons. No nhancer. In game AA and AS. New FSX cfg. Make sure your new gpu is listed in the FSX cfg. No tweaks. One GPU. Make sure all your ram is good. Run a registry cleaner. Don't install FSX to the defaut Program Folder.Don't skip any of the above. Then start adding things.Bob

What drivers are you using? The newest ones (185.xx) suck...the version 182 drivers are much better for FS. Have you tried any of the 3D benchmarking programs to see if there might be a more general problem with your 285?CheersBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

FSX is not coded to take advantage of the newer components and related software.CPU power is where it's at!I've experienced spikes with all my nVidia cards, but never with my ATI cards.

I have 186.xx drivers and i have used 3D mark 2006 with a score of 8000 with 7800GTX sli and 18000 with 285GTX as for 3DMark Vantage my TV ended up turning off so i never got to see the score but it was running at about 60fps. Looks like ill have to start all over again to see if i can find out what killed off my FPS and leave nhancer out as thats when i started getting most of my problems. ill keep you posted if i can find out what fixed it our stuffed it again.

I swapped my and 8800GTX for a GTX285 (1GB) and got a 20% to 25% performance increase with FSX. FSX is smooth when I limit fps to 30 and have set Poolsize=100000000.
Please... could you grow up a little, and post an intelligent response to a post you don't agree with? There are several posts in this thread that are contrary to my experience. So what. Bob

Not much different from what most of us see with FSX settings turned down.I've got two EVGA 7900GTX's sitting here in a box waiting to go up on EBAY. Do really think that if they could possibly do better with FSX (or anything else for that matter) that I would give them up for a GTX 285, lol don't count on it.
I did a reinstall of FSX and some testing along the way using 182.0x drivers with the 285GTX 1st run was the same sh#t.FSX SP1 same sh#t, FSX SP2 same as before sh#t. Connected a 2nd PSU just to run the 285GTX and was the same.Run 1 7800GTX now getting lot better FPS more than the 285GTX was doing, 7800GTX x2 Sli only a small change in FPS.I could up all sliders in the game to max and get more out of the 7800GTX cards that i could would 1 285GTX.So now its a clean install of vista 64 to see if i can get my FPS from the 285GTX but i dont like my luck

I have no idea in what condition your OS is in so installing a new video card on an already botched OS is not going to give very good results.Whenever I change video cards I reformat so nothing is left to chance. I suggest you do a little research you
