As discussed in another "out of memory" post recently, individuals with 64 bit systems getting out of memory messages indicates a problem somewhere with your system configuration (not FSX), a hardware problem, or you have your FSX settings set too high. Do you have SP2 installed or SP1? If SP1, you'll have to hack your FSX.exe to show that FSX can see memory greater than 2GB. This was incorporated in the SP2 fixes. There's a Crash to Desktop (CTD) forum here on AVSIM and you should review some of those problems and see if any will help you fix your problem. You also need to review the how to tune FSX thread and hopefully one of those solutions will help you run FSX without getting the dreaded out of memory message: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041. Hope this helps.Best regards,Jim Young

Thanks, Tim
June 21, 200916 yr HelloFSX running out of available memory does not mean your Hard disk is full.Disk space is not memory so adding an external drive will not help you.You will need to be running FSX with SP2 or acceleration, and also buy somemore RAM, this is providing that nothing else is wrong with your setup.Your Traffic program is not the problem here.
June 21, 200916 yr You might try downloading the free Game Booster program and activate it prior to starting FSX. This will shut down unnecessary background programs and then let you easily restart them after finishing with FSX. Art

June 22, 200916 yr yeah that is great but I use fsx while maybe running internet or outlook or something is that going to be shut down too?Hi,When you run FSX you really should not be running anything else. FSX uses a huge amount of system resources and as such really should be the only application running on your system. You should also disable any antivirus software whilst running fsx. I'm not telling you what to do with your system, but running Outlook and such is not recommended. Yes you can check the web or whatever but refrain from using sites that use lots of flash or java as this just takes away from FSX. The Only app I run with FSX is Radar Contact which provides realistic ATC.
June 22, 200916 yr FSX SP2/Acceleration running on Vista 64 with 4Gb of RAM will not run out of memory.FSX RTM or SP1 may quite easily.Rod.
June 22, 200916 yr yeah that is great but I use fsx while maybe running internet or outlook or something is that going to be shut down too?Game Booster allows you to exclude items from it's recommended shutdown list. I don't know what you have on your computer's startup list, but some computers accumulate a lot of unnecessary garbage running in the background. I use msconfig to clean all of this out. Of course your admission that you are using other applications at the same time as FSX pretty much answers your own question. I run a number of applications with FSX at the same time without a problem, but it's for the purpose of doing scenery design and FSX is pretty much a static display. Over the course of a flight, a lot of scenery is loaded and it seems to result in an accumulation of memory usage that is not returned to the program so that at some point the program can't find enough memory to continue.FSX SP2 is also an important consideration as mentioned by Rod. You don't indicate what you have installed. Art

OK I'll try it
June 23, 200916 yr OK as I said I installed sp2 and it crashed fsx completely know it just says that it cant find necessary files in order to work so I will be reinstalling fsx oh and I figured out that I have sp 1 and since that I somehow need to change fsx.exe to 3 gb if not 4 so if you could just tell me how to do that that would be great again thanks in advance, Tim
June 23, 200916 yr OK I reinstalled fsx and as I said sp 2 crashes fsx on my PC so I would need some way to fix the annoying error without using sp 2 besides it still shows that I have sp 2 installed it offers to remove it but my computer allways crushes when I click it and anyway that doesnt seem to a solution so I will probably need to access fsx.exe somehow (dont know how) I'll look for some softwareThanks, Tim

Anyway if FSX crashes with SP2 you have something wrong. The installation of FSX and its service packs requires a little care and there is a set of procedures for this which must be followed.Nick Needham has put together a first rate tutorial on how to install and tune FSX which I recommend you read and follow to the letter.http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_post...=29041&PN=1Using this you will have a crash free intallation of FSX.Rod.
